Illusion of Gaia Review! [SNES] The Game Collection
Soul Blazer was great and all, but in this Illusion of Gaia review I talk about how Quintet moved forward with the second entry in the series! Illusion of Gaia is another action RPG by Quintet, which was released in Europe under the name Illusion of Time. Development began immediately following Act Raiser 2, and was localized by Nintendo to the United States in 1994. The game was built from the ground up, featured larger sprites, combos, three playable characters, special charged moves, and more. In fact at first glance you’d probably wonder how anybody could consider this to be in the same series as Soul Blazer, which is a valid question. Illusion of Gaia was developed under the title Soul Blazer: Illusion of Gaia. But the Soul Blazer series is actually more of a loose collection based on recurring themes, such as reviving a dying world, getting tangled up in the battle between good and evil gods, and recurring locations & characters. Lastly, all games were developed by more or less the same team. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

The Game Collection - Soul Blazer Review! [SNES] The Game Collection
In this Soul Blazer Review, SuperDerek revisits a classic Action RPG for the Super Nintendo! ...But why Soul Blazer? Original Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0DsGcGrD98 Welcome back to The Game Collection. Over 20 episodes ago, I made a review that just never really sat well with me. I’m still glad that I made it because the game was important to me, and helped me get to where I am today. But over the course of 20 episodes I’d like to think that I’ve come a long way. If you’d like to see my original review, I’ll link to it in the description. If you have seen my original, stick around because I’ve picked up on some new points with this game, and some of my opinions have changed. It’s time to give this review a much-needed update! Alundra Review! [PlayStation] The Game Collection
Join SuperDerek in his Alundra review as he explores the events leading up to this amazing spiritual successor to LandStalker Waaay back in episode 5 of The Game Collection I reviewed LandStalker, an awesome Action RPG for the, get this, Sega Genesis. It's been a long time since I reviewed a game for the Genesis. Maybe I should revisit that console... But why would I talk about LandStalker in a review of Alundra? Because put simply, Alundra is LandStalker 2. Or something like that. It's complicated. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

E.V.O. Search for Eden Review! [SNES] The Game Collection
I can barely believe myself when I tell you that I finally own a copy of E.V.O. Search for Eden for the SNES! It's a pricey game, but in this EVO review, I'll be discussing the traits that allowed this game to stand the test of time! Wow, talk about a game that I never thought I’d ever own, let alone be able to review! EVO was one of those games that I came across a long time ago thanks to the help of emulation and a list of RPGs to check out. What I found wasn’t an RPG as I had been lead to believe, but more like… I don’t know, maybe an Action-Packed Pre-Historic Adventure game? Yeah I’d say that sounds about right. EVO was developed by Almanic Corp, the company that was also behind Cosmic Carnage and later, Wonder Project J2: an RPG for the Nintendo 64 that sadly was never released in the US. The game was based on a 1990 PC game entitled 46 “Okunen Monogatari ~Harukanaru Eden e~” Or "4.6 Billion Year Story: To Distant Eden". Fortunately for us, Enix picked up the game and decided to localize it for a US release in 1993. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Persona 2 Innocent Sin review! [PSP] The Game Collection
SuperDerek explores the progress made by Atlus since Persona 1 in this Persona 2 Innocent Sin review! Like the Final Fantasy series, the US didn't end up getting all of the Persona titles when they were first released. After Persona 1 was released, development began on Persona 2: Innocent Sin. Unfortunately we never ended up getting Innocent Sin. Sure we got Persona 2, but that was actually Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, a sequel of sorts to Innocent Sin. Well maybe that's not exactly the right way to put it. Most call the games a duology, and long story short, we only got part two until Atlus released Innocent Sin on the PSP. Lunar Silver Star Story Complete Review! [PlayStation] The Game Collection
Super Derek reviews one of Working Design's greatest titles, Lunar 1: Silver Star Story Complete! Early on in my life, I was spoiled by the RPG greats, like Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana. And once I got the taste for them, I was hooked, and began looking for more. Playing through retro games is sort of like a journey in and of itself. you never really know what you're going to get when you pop in a cartridge or a CD for the first time. In that journey, you come across a lot of mediocre games, and even some really bad games. But what's even more rare is when you come across a game that makes the entire journey worth it. And this is one of those games. Welcome back to The Game Collection. I am SuperDerek, and this is Lunar: The Silver Star Story Complete! Lunar is an RPG that was originally released on the Sega CD. it was developed by Game Arts, and localized and published by the late Working Designs. Since it's original release the game has been ported and remade from the ground up a few times. Silver Star Story Complete was originally released on the Sega Saturn, and then ported to the PlayStation. To paraphrase the words of Kei Shigema, while each release of the game tells the same story, the PlayStation is perhaps the best story-teller of them all." In Lunar, you play as a young man named Alex, a musician and swordsman who dreams of becoming the next Dragon Master. With your friends, you set off on a short journey that quickly snowballs into an adventure of epic proportions. I want to tell you more -- I really do. But more than that, I want to not spoil the adventure for you, because GameArts primary objective with this game was to tell a story. And to their credit, the story of Lunar may in fact be the best love story ever told through the medium of video games. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Wild Arms Review! [PlayStation] The Game Collection
In this Wild Arms review, SuperDerek examines this classic PlayStation RPG that predated even Final Fantasy VII! Welcome back to The Game Collection! I am SuperDerek, and today, I’m feeling like a western. I’m talking about the Wild West, with gunslingers. And what better way to get your fix for the Wild West than with a Japanese RPG set in a medieval science-fiction universe where you fight demons with swords and magic! This is Wild Arms! Media Vision outdid themselves with their first foray into the world of Role Playing Games. After having just wrapped up work on Rapid Reload, a sci-fi western run and gun, you can see a lot of their influences carry over into the Wild Arms universe. Having come out nearly a year before Final Fantasy VII in Japan, Wild Arms has the distinction of being one of the first RPGs released on the PlayStation.

Persona 3 FES Review! (The Journey) [PlayStation 2] The Game Collection
In this Persona 3 FES Review, SuperDerek explores the game that changed the face of Atlus and established them as major players in the world of JRPGs! Persona 3 FES is a fun and rewarding, though deeply flawed game. I don't know that I've played a more frustrating game on this show, or ever if I'm being honest -- and I've actually beaten Dark Souls. But I couldn't seem to put this game down for very long, no matter how hard I wanted to throw the controller. It's addicting, and endearing, and positively dripping with style. Terranigma Review! [SNES] The Game Collection
SuperDerek Reviews Terranigma in the third entry in the Soul Blazer series review and retrospective! Terranigma or Tenchi Souzou is the best Action RPG on the Super Nintendo, and is one of the best JRPGs period. You need to play Terranigma, because it's just that awesome! Terranigma is the culmination of the combined efforts of the Quintet Team on the Super Nintendo. Let that sink in for a moment. Quintet, developer of Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, ActRaiser 1 and 2, everything lead up to the creation of what I consider to be their magnum opus. Tomoyoshi Miyazaki returns as the writer, designer, and director and poured his soul into the steel of the game. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Shenmue Review! [Dreamcast] The Game Collection
Shenmue is the most famous game you never played because it was only released on the Sega Dreamcast, and that's too bad because Shenmue is awesome!. Watch my Shenmue review, then decide for yourself! Check me out on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/SuperDerekYT Shenmue is a game that refuses to be categorized. It does so many things, so well, you could almost consider it a sampler pack of different genres. It's almost like a life simulator where you explore a town, talk to people, get a job, and interact with the objects that make up the environment! There are even calendar, time, and seasonal weather systems in the game -- and this was from back in 2000! Shenmue started off it's life as a Virtua Fighter RPG for the Sega Saturn, starring Akira. Gradually the development team moved away from the Virtua Fighter universe, and Akira became Ryo. As a result however, there are still clear design similarities between the two characters, including dominant eyebrows and matching scars on their left cheeks. Also gradually, it was becoming clear that the Saturn was shaping up to be a commercial flop, so production was halted and later resumed as Shenmue was slated for the Dreamcast. Lost Sphear for the Nintendo Switch is a Retro-Inspired JRPG for the Nintendo Switch by Tokyo RPG factory. Breath of Fire Review [SNES] The Game Collection
Super Derek returns to an old favorite for the SNES, Breath of Fire! This game is a classic that deserves your time and attention! I tried shooting this video a bit differently this time, and would really appreciate your feedback in the comments! You could say I’ve been looking forward to reviewing this game for a while. And after playing through Hydlide, I felt like I deserved a little bit of a reward. Breath of Fire was another one of those games I found a long time ago when I was looking to scratch that RPG itch after playing EarthBound. It’s kind of funny. Lufia left me feeling burned, but Breath of Fire was a breath of fresh air. Before I get into this though I should mention that because I played this game early on, I may be a bit biased in favor of this game because to be honest, the nostalgia factor is in full force, despite my best efforts to remain impartial. But even for those without some history with the franchise, I know that this game will appeal to a lot of you. Breath of Fire was the first RPG ever developed by Capcom, the company famous for Street Fighter and Mega Man. The game was released for the Super Famicom in April of 1993. Because Capcom hadn’t really dealt much with text-heavy localizations of this magnitude, they handed the game translation and promotion over to none other than SquareSoft. Due to character limitations of item and character names that couldn’t be overcome, a lot of the text in the game is abbreviated, which can make for some confusing moments. But fortunately this seldom affects gameplay. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Dark Cloud Review! [PlayStation 2] The Game Collection
Join me on this Dark Cloud Review where I dissect the game to see what makes this awesome game tick! Welcome back to The Game Collection. I am SuperDerek and this is Dark Cloud! Dark Cloud is awesome! But what would you expect from Level-5 during the era of the PlayStation 2? Everything they touched it seemed turned to gold. Long before Ni No Kuni, Level-5 was turning heads with Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy, and of course, Dark Cloud. Dark Cloud was released for the PlayStation 2 shortly after the console's launch. It's an action-RPG that dabbles in resource management and urban development. It's got many of the usual trappings of an action RPG post Ocarina of Time such as the enemy-targeting system, charged attacks, thrown items, and weapons of different types, but it's the unexpected things that it brings to the table that help make it stand out from the pack. The game takes place after a massive attack on the civilizations of the world by the Dark Genie. Over the course of a single night, the world as it was known was essentially annihilated except for a handful of individuals that managed to somehow survive. But during this attack, a sage was at work saving the people of the world and their homes by sealing them in Atla Spheres, and casting them into dangerous dungeons for safe keeping. This sage then decided to give our hero Toan the atlamalia stone, which is the only thing that can gather the contents of the Atla, and restore them later. And with that, our hero Toan is off to save the world. Restoring towns and it's people from nearby dungeons in order to track down and eventually fight the evil, dark... Hold on, this sounds really familiar! Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Crystalis Review! [NES] The Game Collection
Super Derek takes a look at the roots of the Action RPG genre with this Crystalis Review! Welcome back to The Game Collection, I am SuperDerek and this is my 12th review. And do you know what that means? That means it's time for me to review my most-requested game of all time: Crystalis! That's right, this game has been requested literally, a couple of times so I decided "Hey what the heck, I'll go ahead and move it forward in the release schedule just for you guys." So without further ado, I am SuperDerek, and this is Crystalis! So one of the first things that you're probably going to notice right off the bat is that this game is for the Nintendo Entertainment System, making this a review of the oldest game so far on The Game Collection. It's a good thing I got that $20 Nintendo back in October. To find out how I pulled that off, check out the link at the end of this video. So the backstory of Crystalis is kind of long and doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but here's the abridged version: Dragan is trying to take over a post-apocalyptic vision of our world. You play as a great magician from the past who was put into suspended animation for... some reason... and your revival from suspended animation was the last-ditch effort of 4 wise sages to oppose Dragan and his forces. Unfortunately, you awaken with a severe case of amnesia, and you can't even remember your name or any spells. No matter though, because your job is to go out there and collect the 4 elemental swords created by those 4 wise sages in order to combine them into Crystalis: A sword so powerful, they named the game after it. Or at least that's what they named it in the English translation of the game. Probably because "God Slayer" was just a little too entirely against Nintendo of America's publishing guidelines of the time. To be more precise, the game was called "God Slayer: Sonata of the Far Away Sky" which in my opinion was actually a more fitting title. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Should you play Persona 1 (Review) [PSP] The Game Collection
Note: I've changed my mind regarding the version I recommend, see below ** Persona is a series that by now has achieved critical acclaim and mass appeal with it's most recent entries, Persona 3 and 4. But the question this Persona Review aims to answer is, "should I play Persona 1?" ** I no longer feel that the PSX version was the way to go with this game. Initially I felt that the console experience would outweigh the benefits of the PSP remake, but upon further reflection, I think I was underestimating the improvements done to that PSP remake, and had completely forgotten that the Snow Queen campaign was completely omitted from the original release. The PSP release is the way to go. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Breath of Fire III Review! [PlayStation] The Game Collection
SuperDerek continues his 5-part Breath of Fire retrospective by reviewing Breath of Fire 3, one of the best JRPGs on the PlayStation! Did Capcom create a masterpiece with their followup to Breath of Fire 2? Breath of fire is a game that won my heart years ago. Capcom improved upon the formula a year later with the release of Breath of Fire 2. Three years later, Capcom outdid themselves yet again. But is it a masterpiece? Capcom released Breath of Fire 3 in 1998 on the Sony PlayStation. In similar fashion to Breath of Fire 2, you don't need to have played the previous games in the series to understand what's going on, but in order to pick up on some references to the past, or appreciate cameos from characters from previous titles, it's recommended, but not likely game-changing. In Breath of Fire 3, you play as a child named Ryu, the last remnant of The Brood, who were all but wiped out in a great war, 500 years earlier. After a couple of thieving orphans take him in, they find themselves in a heap of trouble. This sends Ryu on a meandering journey that explores the shades of grey between right and wrong, self-actualization, and the search for God. If the Narrative of Breath of fire 2 was a movie, the story of Breath of Fire 3 is a novel -- An epic quest that sees our heroes travel through molten volcanos, across wide oceans and vast deserts. If that sounds a bit lofty for a game, rest assured that Breath of Fire 3 doesn't take the ham-fisted approach. It's a nuanced allegory that can either be enjoyed for what it presents to you at face value, or it can be open to interpretation. This game was dedicated to the Dragons. This dedication alone can be interpreted a couple of different ways. My first thought was that it was simply a dedication to the players of their previous games. Then later maybe the victims of oppression. However as the game progressed the dedication seems to shift to people with the will to change the world for the better. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon Review! [N64] The Game Collection
SuperDerek looks at a childhood favorite on the Nintendo 64, in this Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon Review! Get ready for a very Japanese game! Welcome back to The Game Collection, I am SuperDerek and this is Mystical Ninja, Starring Goemon! This game is NUTS! This game first and foremost is just completely insane! Like, Japanese insane... Which is the best kind of insane. But since it was released on the Nintendo 64 back in 1998, Nintendo of America's strict content guidelines of the time cleaned up some of the obligatory pervy jokes. But otherwise I really appreciate the localization on this game. Back when this game came out, sailor moon's localization was calling rice balls donuts and other similar localization aimed at concealing our cultural differences rather than embracing them. But upon its release, Mystical Ninja gave me my first real glimpse of at pure unapologetic Japanese culture. Up to this point the most Japanese culture I got was from Speed Racer and the early Bandai localizations of Dragonball Z. I Actually picked up the game for the first time because I thought Goemon on the cover looked sort of like Goku... Yeah it was a stretch. Coincidentally, the game actually has a gag which nods to the Dragonball series later in the game when Goemon is able to perform a powerup move which doubles his strength and turns his hair golden. But gags and parodies like this are to be expected while playing through the games of the Mystical Ninja series. It's a very self-aware game that can't take itself too seriously for more than a couple of seconds at a time. Goemon and gang are presumably adventuring around feudal Japan but conversations with the locals often break the 4th wall with self-referencial humor and anachronisms like talking about giant robots, magazines, telephones, and pizza. Breath of Fire IV is an amazing game, in this review I weigh it against it's predecessor. Does Breath of Fire 4 hold up when compared to 3? Find out in this Breath of Fire IV Review! Breath of Fire 4 was release a few years after Breath of Fire 3. The nature of the game is under some debate as to whether it's a prequel, or an alternate reality from the other Breath of Fire games. I prefer to think of it as a prequel though, because at least then it provides some answers regarding the origins of the Breath of Fire universe, rather than just feeling like a cop-out. Regardless of that, Breath of Fire 4 is probably the first game in a while to leave me unsure of how I felt about the game. It's truly a story of 2 steps forward, 1 step back. But really the more accurate way to put it would be 4 steps forward, 3 steps back... or something like that. The game starts out with a winged princess named, --you guessed it-- Nina, accompanied by a friend named Cray. They're on a hunt for her missing sister, when a dragon damages their sand flier. A few minutes later and Nina stumbles upon Ryu in a crater, they decide to start travelling together, and so begins the new adventure. It sure didn't take long for them to meet up in this game. Usually there's some questing to be done first, and Ryu is given some sort of motivation to go on an adventure, but in Breath of Fire IV, Ryu pretty much falls into Nina's lap, and our main hero's motivation is never really addressed. I suppose that we can infer that he had the compassion and empathy enough to decide to tag along with Nina and Cray in the search for her sister, but it's just sort of... assumed. Breath of Fire II Review! [SNES] The Game Collection
Super Derek Reviews and Analyzes Breath of Fire 2, the second game in a 5 part Breath of Fire retrospective! Last time I talked about Breath of Fire, a game that needs no introduction. But in case you do, click here to check that video out first. If you don’t have time for that, here’s a quick recap: Breath of Fire marked Capcom’s first entry into the RPG market. It was an RPG for beginners, by beginners. They made some rookie mistakes that were easily forgiven, and fans wanted more. Lucky for us, we got more. When Breath of Fire was released in the US, the development of Breath of Fire 2 was already well underway, and Capcom, now wiser and more experienced was catching their stride. Capcom learned from their mistakes in Breath of Fire, and somehow, within a year, unleashed upon the world what some consider to be the best entry in the series. But is it? I am Super Derek, and this is Breath of Fire 2! Breath of Fire 2 takes place 500 years after the events of Breath of Fire 1, and once again the fate of the world is in peril. Once again a hero from the Dragon Clan must rise to the challenge. And once again, we are invited into the world of Breath of Fire. There are a lot of similarities and throwbacks to the original Breath of Fire. Some of these similarities, such as the names and clans of our heroes Ryu and Nina became series staples. Names and themes of towns and their locations make a return from the original game, making everything feel very familiar. But the world isn’t just reused from Breath of Fire, it’s been revamped, and feels much more fully fleshed out. In a way, Breath of Fire 2 feels like a love letter from Capcom to the fans of Breath of Fire 1, and it really, really works. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Dark Cloud 2 (Dark Chronicle) Review! [PlayStation 2] The Game Collection
Dark Cloud 2, also known as Dark Chronicle in other regions is an awesome game! In this Dark Chronicle review, SuperDerek analyzes the game after a brief retrospective. Check it out! Wow. If I told you that Kingdom Hearts wasn't the best action RPG on the PlayStation 2, would you believe me? 2 weeks ago, if someone told me the same thing I might not have believed them. Now, I know what you're thinking. It's either one of 2 things, you're either saying to yourself, "No way. If there was a better action RPG on the PlayStation 2, I would have known about it." The other thing you might be thinking to yourself is "Well, of course it's not the best action RPG," because you've probably played Dark Cloud 2. I know, I'm stunned too. I knew it was a good game before playing it, but I didn't know it would be THIS good! I'm not going to mince words with you: this game is probably in my top-10 games of all-time, maybe even top-5? Maybe... Well, now that I've broken the suspense, how about we examine the game? I don't want to just tell you that it's a good game, I'm going to show you. But before I get to that, let's cover the basics: Dark Cloud 2 was known as Dark Chronicle in other regions. Dark Cloud 2 is obviously a sequel to Dark Cloud. If you aren't familiar with Dark Cloud, feel free to check out that review here, but be sure to come back. But for a quick recap, Level-5 plus PS2 equals gold. Case in point, Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, and Dragon Quest VIII. Dark cloud 2 was released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, about a year after the release of the first Kingdom Hearts game. It had a 2-year production period that began about a year after the release of the first game. While Akihiro Hino did a great job of directing, and producing, and designing, and writing Dark Cloud 1, he took more of a back-seat for the sequel and simply just wrote and produced the game. And that's probably a good thing, because you can see a huge leap in the quality of storytelling and pacing between the games. The story of Dark Cloud 2 is not directly related to the story of Dark Cloud 1, so if you're wondering if you have to get through the first one to appreciate the second, the answer is no. You can skip straight to Dark Cloud 2 and not miss out on a single thing. The only thing that that might ruin for you is playing through the first game, since it will simply just pale in comparison. So without further ado, let's get to it! I am SuperDerek, and this is Dark Cloud 2! In Dark Cloud 2 you switch between two characters, Max and Monica, time traveling protagonists who are working together to restore the world. Max and Monica each have an Atlamilia Stone, which is what allows them to travel between time to each other's eras. In order to fight the "Big Bad Guy" who's destroyed the world, Max and Monica have to utilize the help of people from the future, but the "Big Bad Guy" has wiped those people out by wiping away ancestors and locations from the past. So you've got to correct the future by restoring the present. Now obviously, time travel is inherently full of paradox problems. But if you can avoid over-thinking it for Chrono Trigger, (and almost everybody can,) you can get along with Dark Cloud 2. Visit http://www.SuperDerekRPGs.com for more RPG Reviews

Shining Force Review! (Genesis) - The Game Collection!
SuperDerek Reviews Shining Force with Daria Plays RPGs! Subscribe to Daria's channel: https://www.youtube.com/DariaPlaysRPGs In this Shining Force review, Daria and SuperDerek examine the history of Sonic Software Planning and the Shining Series, starting with Shining Force, the strategy-RPG that's perfect for beginners! Welcome back to The Game Collection! Today I’d like to show some love to a special Square RPG that doesn’t always get the appreciation it deserves, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest! What? No, not that crap. Review something good. Something, Sega. Wait, Daria? But where are you? It’s doesn’t matter. Just review Shining Force. But- NOW! Ok, ok. The Sega Genesis doesn’t tend to get much love on my channel, which is a real shame! The console isn’t usually the first console people think of when talking about RPGs but it’s actually a very competent system! I also haven’t given much love to Strategy RPGs either, which is another problem. And lastly, Daria is an awesome YouTuber that you should check out, so I guess we’re killing 3 birds with one stone and doing a collaborative review of Shining Force? Damn skippy we are. In ages long forgotten, Sega first party developer Sonic! Software Planning (who, despite the name, never actually software planned any Sonic titles) teamed up with Climax Entertainment to produce an almost Saturday morning cartoon take on the Wizardry school of Dungeon crawling RPGs. Shining in the Darkness was a success and they immediately followed it up with the similarly styled tactical RPG, Shining Force. Thus the concept of the Shining series was born, a slew of RPGs with different mechanics united by a single universe and cohesive art style. However the project fell apart during production of the action RPG, Shining Rogue in which Climax essentially grabbed their developmental ball and went home. Shining Rogue was rebranded LandStalker and Sonic! Software Planning took complete creative control of the Shining series with Shining Force 2 and onwards. Later they’d change their name to Camelot Software and develop five more Shining RPGs for the Sega Saturn before they ditched Sega for Nintendo and became “that company who makes those Mario sports games and oh. GoldenSun.” And Climax? They too left Sega to develop the Stalker series before disbanding and rebranding as Matrix Software and developing the best darn Zelda clone in existence, Alundra. But that’s another- where was I? Oh. Right. RIP Shining Force, your light burned bright but short.

Why is Octopath Traveler So Successful?
Octopath Traveler has been having huge success both in Japan and Overseas! Octopath is flying off store shelves, and Square Enix can't seem to make enough copies, to the point where the game is skyrocketing in price in Japan! But why? Why is Octopath Traveler so successful? What makes it so good? Will this spark a new golden age for RPGs? I think that it's a combination of several factors. These were the perfect conditions for a real hit to come out, as modern developers have been ignoring such a huge facet of their audience for too long.

Granstream Saga Review! [PlayStation] The Game Collection Feat. Jimmy Hapa!
Huge thanks to Jimmy Hapa for helping out with this Granstream Saga Review! Be sure to check out his channel! https://www.youtube.com/user/jimmyhapa Developed by Shade and published by THQ, the Granstream Saga was released for the original PlayStation in 1997. Between the generic name, no-name developer and let's face it, poor-name publisher, I'm not sure I know of a less interesting combination of words. But if you're still awake, it might interest you to know that the game was one of the first fully polygonal RPGs ever made, and in fact, debuted at #1 on the sales charts in Japan, dethroning the long-standing Final Fantasy VII.
