Emergency shelter, fully enclosed tent with floor in less then 2 min, from square tarp

02:16
This is updated video of how to make an emergency shelter from single square sheet (6'x6' tarp in this case). It is done in less then 2 min and costs about £2. The weight with the pegs and the pole (can be used walking stick, too) is half kilogram (1lbs). Also the tarp can be used as hammock, rain-cape, etc. See: http://www.farstrider.co/2017/03/tent-fully-enclosed-with-floor-from-square-tarp.html for pictures with a person inside and some more details and explanations how to fold it. It is one of the things that everybody interested in surviving and travelling through the wilderness must know how to do. The advantages compared to the other set up ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oA1O8BPlQI ) are that this one is a bit taller, so it is easier to sit inside and eat or have a cup, it uses only one pole, it is better closed and has smaller foot print. Disadvantages are that being taller is easier to be seen, it is not so stable in wind, it is smaller and not so comfortable, there is need for a longer piece of string. I used to do this more then 20 years ago in the army with my plasht (or as the Russians call it "plash-palatka"), which has the same size as standart tarp 1.8x1.8m (6'x6'). I think it was alright size 70 years ago, when most of the soldiers were 1.7m (5'7"), but today it is on the shorter side as I am 1.82m (about 6') and 7'x7' tarp (or other type of material) would be the right size for me. This is only to show the idea how a square sheet can be folded in a pyramid and by no means a final and perfect shelter solution. There are many improvements that can be done, according each taste. If you have ideas for improvements or bettering the set up please write them in the comment section. Thanks. An improved DIY version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha7qBwC2aJc

Albufeira, Portugal - Visiting the old town and the beach

I spent a day in Albufeira, Portugal. It is one of the most visited places in Portugal and it is for a reason. The old town is the typical Mediterranean picturesque village and the small cafes and restaurants, the beach is covered with quality golden coloured sand and everything in general says "1st class resort"

DIY simple tent fully enclosed with floor from square canvas sheet - pitching up in less then 2min

02:40
Pitching up DIY tent from square piece of canvas. Normally I use just square 2x2 tarp, but now I decided to make some improvements. I used slightly larger 2.5x2.5m camouflaged canvas, added zips on the sides and some loops. All together with the pegs, string and telescopic pole it weighs less then 1kg. Everything has multiple uses, like the tent can be used as a hammock, the pole as a walking stick, fishing pole, etc.

Emergency shelter, fully enclosed tent with floor in less then 3 min, from 2x3 (6'x9') tarp

02:56
This is updated video of how to make an emergency shelter from single 2x3 sheet (tarp). It is done in less then 3 min and costs about £2. The weight with the poles (can be used walking stick, too) is half to one kilogram. Also the tarp can be used as hammock, rain-cape, etc. See another set up made from a square tarp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwnXcW_MMkM It is one of the things that everybody interested in surviving and travelling through the wilderness must know how to do. Edit: It does not leak from the hole in the middle of the tarp, even in heavy rein. The top looks open, but it is not, it could be rolled up and closed easily. Edit 2: This is to show the idea how 2x3 sheet is folded in pyramid, there are many improvements that can be done, according each taste.

Walking on the beach from Durankulak to Shabla

02:39
First to excuse myself for the quality of the editing. I am doing this on my phone, where the preview doesn't work, so there are some faults, but this is the best I can do at the moment. A bit later I'll do better video, where these issues are going to be fixed. I walked on from the Durankulak's camping site to the Shabla's one. At first I thought to pitch up my tent just outside the camping site, but later on I changed my mind and entered the one called "Holiday Houses Mezdra". Sleeping in tent costs 2 pounds per person, for which one gets showers and toilets too. Provided basic safety rules are followed also campfires and BBQs can be made. The hosts showed me also the bungalows and in general were exceptionally friendly. They are couple in they late 40s, early 50s with a daughter, called Nona, who is an aspiring journalist and her boyfriend, very pleasant young man, who works as builder. After that the hosts invited me to share a meal with them, and it was a meal, what is seen on the picture is only the beginning, later we had sausages and meatballs on grill, Bulgarian anisette, called "Mastika", beers and so on. We stayed around the table until nearly 2 o'clock after midnight and many interesting stories were told. From all the places I ever visited on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast I'd say that this was by far the best. Very cheap, friendly people, nice sandy beach and in general all that I like in a resort. So Id give it 10/10 from my semi-wild camper point of view.

Pitching up my fully enclosed tent with floor from 2x3 tarp and rain test

03:34
This is fully enclosed tent with floor and I made this short video to show how to pitch it up. I made this in wind and it took altogether with cutting and sharpening the four supporting sticks couple of minutes. After that the rain started and there were no leaks so I decided to spent the night in the tent and seems the nature of this type of folding sheets makes it not only waterproof, but also warm and wind resistant. 2x3 m (6x9 ft) tarp (tarpaulin or any other waterproof and strong enough material cut with sides 2 by 3), 2 sticks at 1.2 m (or 4 ft) each, 2 pegs (or just sharpened pieces of wood) and piece of string are used and the pitching up should take only a couple of minutes if practised. It could be used as rain-cape or hammock, weights around 350 gr and is very compact and light compared to the retail tents. Also not to forget it costs only £2. For exact proportions and folding geometry look at http://www.farstrider.co/2017/03/tent-fully-enclosed-with-floor-from-2x3-tarp.html For another video about making this tent see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oA1O8BPlQI And for a video about pitching up and configuration of the single tent see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwnXcW_MMkM

Visit to the Brixton Street Market, London 2016

05:04
Today I visited the Brixton Street Market, place in London which I often have heard mentioned when people spoke about exotic foods, but somehow haven't seen yet. So my first impression is that its not really very big and while some years ago I would have thought that looks like Middle-Eastern or Afro-Caribbean market, today I think its something rather typical for London, as there are several similar markets around. When I say Middle-Eastern or Afro-Caribbean, I mean not only the exotic foods, but also the ambient, the faces of the people, the stalls without prices and covered sometimes with fruits and foods that I haven't seen yet in my life and strangely enough the prices are not really fixed and the vendors often decide on the moment how much to ask for any specific thing.

Tent from single square tarp sheet, enclosed with floor for £2

03:42
After receiving e-mails and questions how exactly I configure and pitch up my single tent-cape I realized that it may not be so obvious, so I decided to upload this video in which I am showing to a friend of mine - Karen how to do it. I hope now is clearer how this is done. In short, 2x2 m (6x6 ft) tarp (tarpaulin or any other waterproof and strong enough material cut at square), stick 1.2 m (or 4 ft), 3 pegs (or just sharpened pieces of wood) and piece of string 1.5 m long are used and the pitching up should take only a couple of minutes if practiced. It could be used as rain-cape (similar to the "plash palatka") or hammock, weights around 250 gr and is very compact and light compared to the retail tents. And just to note in the video the sides don't align perfectly, because this tarp was not exactly a square and the eyelets were not evenly spaced, but its still good enough for £2 tent. However if anybody wishes to invest some time, it can be cut to proper size and the eyelets can be realigned and the result will be very neat fully enclosed tent. This smaller configuration has some advantages like its easier to use as rain-cape, its a bit higher, so one can sit inside somewhat comfortably, uses single pole and needs smaller spaces. The disadvantages are that it is not so comfortable, higher (easier to be seen) and when used as hammock not very comfortable, because is shorter. For exact proportions and folding geometry look at http://www.farstrider.co/2016/05/single-tent-cape-paper-and-life-sized.html For videos about the configuration of 2x3 tent see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oA1O8BPlQI

Woodturning with Moroccan bow lathe

01:28
I recorded a bit of the work of a Moroccan woodturner. It's interesting because they work with hand-turned bow lathes and use very curious technique which relies on the foot nimbleness. Seems their craft was preserved nearly unchanged since the ancient times, probably as far as the antique period, when these artisans were probably common sight across the Mediterranean countries. People doing this can be found across the medinas (old towns) of Morocco, but predominantly in Marrakesh, were nowadays their trade is mostly tourist attraction and they earn their living selling souvenirs. Nonetheless it's an interesting craft and technique which should be preserved as part of the cultural heritage of the humanity. Also I observed other non-touristic places, crafts and activities in the country, which I think should be brought to the public attention, too.

13:38
This is footage from my travel with the ferry from Lerwick, Shetland to Aberdeen, on my way from Shetland to Portugal. The travel from Sumburgh, Shetland to Faro, Portugal is kind of interesting experience. One has to get first bus from Sumburgh Airport to the Capital of Shetland, Lerwick. From there the next step is to get the ferryboat to Aberdeen, Scotland in the evening, with which follows 12-13 hours sailing and costs £35 without any additional luxuries as cabin or anything. After that there is a bit of flying, which I'll cover in the next entries.

Walk from Shabla to Tyulenovo

03:32
I departed early in the morning and kept walking on the beach nearly up to the Shabla's Lighthouse and after that I went up on the clifs until I got to the Tyulenovo village. Tyulenovo village was very nice place with very friendly inhabitants. Around the vilage, before and after it there were one of the most impressive rocky shores I've seen, with a lot of smal caverns and secluded places were many foreign turists were sunbating, swimming or jumping from the rocks. When I passed the village I found place designated as "bivouac", where explicitly was written on postsign that tents can be pitched up, campfires made and there even was a chmical toilet, so despite of not walking a lot that day I decided to stop there and camp during the night. It was pretty warm, so I didn't bother to pitch up a tent, but later on it started cooling and I decided to try my Karimor survival polytilene bag, which was a bit of disappointment, because even it breaks the wind, it keeps inside all body moisture, which makes the sleep in one of them pretty unpleasant. Also I made my self hobo stove which worked as charm and kept me warn. Later in the evening several fishermen arrived and kept fishing until 6 o'clock in the morning of thd next day and one of them managed to catch half bucket of the exeptionaly tasty Black Sea fish called localy "Safrid". The fishermen were very friendly and asked me if I am al right, if I am cold, comfortable and so on. All in all the experience was very pleasant and I took some pictures, which I'll post in near future, when I have faster internet and computer. PS The tortoise shown in the video is not a Horsefields one, and I got the names mixed up, because this species doesn't live in Bulgaria, but a Spur-thighed (or Greek).

Visit to the Grant Museum of Zoology in London

08:38
Yesterday I visited the Grant Museum of Zoology. It is a place found in London, not far from the better known Tottenham Court Road underground station. Its pretty small museum as the museums go, but what is interesting in it is not the size, but rather the ambient inside. When you enter it doesn't really looks like something that belongs to the 21st century. On first sight it is a random collection of skeletons and different parts of animals displayed in over-packed glass displays with here and there specimens with freak rather scientific value. In short this is how I imagine the cabinets of the 18 centuries naturalists and explorers looked like. As far as I understood on display is only small fraction of what that museum owns and there are ongoing some research and educational activities, and actually the scientist, researchers and educators can be seen working in public placed desks on the view of the visitors and if anybody wants to can speak with them. If anybody wonders to visit or not that place I'd say it worth to spend an hour there, because this is how long takes the whole tour. The place is pretty small, but there are still a few interesting things, like the skeletons of the extinct Thylacine and Quagga, the huge Elephant Bird egg or the skull of the Asian water buffalo with its impressive sized horns. There are many other things of course that if one wants can spend even all opening hours (13 to 17 every day) looking at them. So on the web site of the museum we can see the following: "The Grant Museum of Zoology is the only remaining university zoological museum in London. It houses around 68,000 specimens, covering the whole Animal Kingdom. Founded in 1828 as a teaching collection, the Museum is packed full of skeletons, mounted animals and specimens preserved in fluid. Many of the species are now endangered or extinct including the Tasmanian Tiger or Thylacine, the Quagga, and the Dodo."

Climbing Musala, summit of Mount Rila and highest peak in Eastern Europe

08:00
I made this video the other day while climbing Musala, the summit of the Rila mountain range and the highest peak between the Alps and the Caucasus and the highest in Eastern Europe bar the Caucasus. It is 2,925 m (9,596 ft) above the sea level. Climbing this peak, while not the most difficult experience in my life was still pretty hard and this mostly due to the late start and the need to maintain relatively high speed. And the big luck I had this day was to meet a family of experienced climbers who were setting the appropriate pace. Without them I would have had pretty hard time, because at first I started way too fast and probably would have crumbled before reaching the peak and then, I didn't knew really the way and the chances are that I would have gotten lost at some point. So, big thanks to them and the good luck I had this day. Now, A bit of information how to get to the peak. First, go to Sofia, the Capital of Bulgaria. Then find "Gara Yug", which means South Station and is next to the metro station "Joliot Curie". There can be find busses every hour going to town called Samokov for 5-6 levs (2-3 pounds), then from Samokov to the village Borovets with mini busses for few levs. The distance is 12 km and taxi will cost 12 levs for example. Once you are in Borovets look for the gondola lifts and go for the one for Yastrebets, it should cost 12 levs for 2 way ticket. If you want more hardcore experience you can start climbing from Borovets, but here I am not going to get in details about that option. Mind that if you want to use the public transport and the gondola lifts you should squeeze the whole exercise between 8 and 18 o'clock and check in advance which days the gondola lift works. So, from Ystrebets there is wide back road to Musala Hut, which can be taken for 40 min. From there starts the steep part through rocks and boulders to Ledenoto Ezero (Icy Lake) Hut, which takes another 50 min. After that point is the last section, which finishes at the summit itself and takes no more then 30 min. This climb took about 2 hours as far as I can see from the time stamps of the photos that I was taking during the ascent. So, in conclusion Id like to say that despite the bad weather and the lack of any visibility, getting on this summit was great experience and nice notch on the tourist's belt with conquests.

Magura Cave, Bulgaria

14:22
Some video clips from the Magura cave. Its pretty big one with 2.5km (1.6 mi) total length. It is in the form of a passage and when somebody enters from one end exits through the other. It is interesting because contains human remains from about 40 000 years ago and was home for some of the last Neanderthals. Also it has inside prehistoric wall paintings made of guano and carbon dated from 11 000 to 8 000 years ago. And particularly interesting for me are some of the depictions of Ostrich and Giraffe-like animals made about 11 000 years ago. I made some research and couldn't find anything like that living at the time in the area or even Europe in general. Strangely enough this issue was not researched and very few people even paid attention. I guess these that know that giant birds haven't lived among the early Europeans are different people from these that analyse ancient paintings or with other words Palaeontologists don't mix with Archaeologists. Also there are depictions of mushrooms, so the use of the magic ones is not out of question. The Sun-like paintings have corresponding number of rays and lines and suggest early attempts for creating calendars. All that was amazing, but there were a vandalised paintings and rocks from the time when the cave was freely open for anybody. Nowadays one can enter alone after paying small fee, but generally the halls with the paintings are visited with guides. TLDR Big cave with prehistoric wall paintings. If you visit Bulgaria one of the top 10 things to see.

Serapion's cave, Bulgaria

02:05
Serapion's cave is suited in the west part of the Balkan Mountain and is known as the place where a monk called Serapion lived. It is 129 m long and has 32 m denivelation. There are series of drops and it is called chasm-like cave, as the first one is 13 m and is close to the entrance. Nowadays there are no more monks living inside but rather it is a breeding ground for several types of bats and other animals and during the breeding season entry is prohibited. I made mistake and the cave is not the first one that I focused, but rather the second two openings, which where close to each other.

Eastern Hermann's tortoises (Testudo hermanni boettgeri)

01:09
As is alreday well known I like tortoises, so while I've been in North-West Bulgaria I decided to look for some of them in the area, because in this place live only Hermann's tortoises and in particular the Eastern subspecies T. h. boettgeri. This subspecies is somewhat endemic for the teritory of Bulgaria and the areas around the country. The animal is relatively easy to be found if one follow few simple rules. First look for places with mix pf trees, bushes and open areas covered with grass. Second, be very quiet, the tortoise is much easier to be heard then seen, and third best time is in the morning before the hottest hours in the summer, because these animals will look for cover in the afternoon and is going to be nearly impossible to be seen or found. So, after short search I found two of them. Note when I comment the unusual patern on the shell of the second, happen that after imspection I discovered that most of the it was damaged and without the usual annual growt circles, so I assume it was victim of fire or other injury.

Walk along the coast from Ahtopol to Sinemorec, Bulgaria

08:47
I decided to walk along the coast from Ahtopol to Sinemorec. The distance in straight line is probably 5-6 km, but I think following the the shore line makes it probably twice more. It is indeed very pleasant experience and its very easy to do, there is a trail, so this mean there are people regularly walking that route. Now I had more time to have a proper look to the village Sinemorec and its two main beaches and I am very disappointed. Its just some poor place that got somehow famous and was instantly overbuilt and shortly after overcrowded. Despite being favourite for may Bulgarians I can't recommend such place, it is simply very unpleasant and to top it the locals were not friendly at all, but rather greedy and trying to do as much as possible profit from the short touristic season. The only reason to visit Sinemorec is to see and if you are inclined to fish in the river Veleka. It is indeed very interesting and particular river, which runs 7-8 m deep and is surrounded by nearly virgin forest and nature.

Climbing Cherni Vrah, Vitosha Mountain, Bulgaria

14:50
This video is composed of several short ones, which I made during my climb to Cherni Vrah, Vitosha mountain. This is the mountain next to Sofia, Capital of Bulgaria, the name of the highest point "Cherni Vrah", roughly translates as "Black Peak" and is 2290m above the see level, which is not very high as the mountains go, but makes exellent mini-adventure, just to taste what is the thing called climbing, without the dangers and exhaustion from real thing in the bigger mountains. I took the route from district Knyazhevo, through Zlatnite Mostove, Kumata Hut and then Cherni Vrah. The climb took me exactly 13 hours from which 7 going up, half hour taking pictures on the peak itself and 5 and half hors getting down. It can be done much faster in different time of the year, but today there was snow up to 1 m deep on the higher parts and in the lower section, where the snow melted the ground was muddy and on top of that I strayed from the way several times . The temperature was between -5 and 10 Celsius depending of the place. With all that said, the whole exercise was somewhat challenging, but nonetheless very pleasant in general.

This is from my first visit to the Praia de Faro, Portugal (Faro's Beach). The beach is accessible by bridge across the Ria Formosa lagoon and there is regular buss service from Faro and Montenegro. Alternatively I simply walked from the Montenegro suburb around the airport, which took a bit of time, maybe around an hour. Which is my only gripe with that town, the airport is on the way to the only walkable access to the beach and one has to go all way around it if wants to reach the sea by foot. Otherwise the sand is very good the weather is very warm for such late time of the year. There are huge seashells lying on the beach and generally the atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxed.

One of the largest Moreton Bay Figs (Ficus macrophylla) in the World found in Valencia, Spain

03:57
This Moreton Bay Fig (Ficus macrophylla) found in the Garden of Parterre, Valencia, Spain is one of the largest of its kind in the World. It has girt of over 20m at the base and 13m at 1.3m height and its circumference increases with 48cm per year. Its height is 22.5m and it covers over 1000sqm. It was planted in 1838 or 1852, which means it is between 166 and 180 years old. The info is from these two sites: http://callejeandoporvalencia.blogspot.com/2014/09/el-ficus-del-parterre-la-sombra-de-la.html?m=1 https://www.monumentaltrees.com/en/esp/comunidadvalenciana/valencia/5380_parterre/10737/ This is one truly monumental tree and one of the must to see things in Valencia. One of the interesting facts about it is that is a strangler fig, which neans it grows around host tree and when it's big enough kills it by "strangling". But for me the most impressive is however the growth rate, for most of the European trees if its even possible to aproach such a size it will take thousands of years and not merely ~170, whuch is telling me tgat if I want garden with big tree fast I'll have to plant one of these.

West Voe of Sumburgh, Shetland. Testing my new camera Panasonic TZ80

01:41
I bought a new Panasonic Lumix TZ80. Seems that currently this is the only model on the market, which is compact enough to be carried in pocket, have binocular-like zoom (30x or 35mm camera equivalent: 24-720mm) and good enough freedom with the settings, so I can use it for a bit more then point and shoot. There are several close competitors, but in each case there was something missing for my needs, which include taking pictures of wildlife and other things from great distances, taking pictures from distance, manually adjusting most of the settings and the ability to carry the camera with me while climbing for example. The only other thing I needed it to be was water or at least weatherproof, but alas at this moment such beast doesn't exist yet. And by the way I am again at West Voe of Sumburgh.

The price for place for pitching up a tent is about 3 pounds per night, per person and it gives you access to water, showers and toilets. Also campfires can be made provided its done in secure way. The beach is may be 50-100 meters away and is nice yellow (but not too fine) sand. There was nothing that surprised me in a bad way and I guess I would recommend this place for people searching more secluded beaches and places around the sea coast. And about myself I liked it far better then the overcrowded and overbuilt popular resorts starting a bit further south.

Caldera Blanca, the largest volcano crater on Lanzarote

24:27
Video clips from a walk between the village Mancha Blanca and the Lanzarote's largest volcano crater, Caldera Blanca. This crater is several thousand years older than the surrounding it black lava fields from the Timanfaya eruptions, which happened 18th century. The contrast between the old light coloured rocks and the more recent black lava field is quite stark. The way is pretty straight forward and can be easily seen. From the village to the highest point of the crater are about 5-6 km, but it takes 1.5-2h to get there. It is possible to walk with flip-flops but here and there sharp edges can be found and to have closed shoes or sandals is better. Now when the Youtube editor is removed I had to find urgently some 3rd party software to edit the video and my first attempt as can be seen is not very successful, but hopefully the next will turn better.

First impression of Sinemorec (Sinemorets), Bulgaria

01:06
Here I decided to check the famous in the last few years village called Sinemorec (it means something like Blue Seas in Bulgarian). Its the second closest to the border with Turkey village and it was supposed to be place less touched by the civilisation, because during the times of the communism normal access to places close to borders were forbidden and as side effect the nature was left in near pristine condition. As touristic attractions there is about nothing except the river Veleka and the three beaches covered with high quality sand, however they are way too popular and during the holiday season are densely packed with people.

Romania-Bulgaria border at Black Sea shore

I wanted to do this video at some border-indicating post or sign, but there was none at the Bulgarian side and apparently I was not allowed to film the one from the Romanian side, so I decided to do it somewhere in between.

Stone house at Sumburgh, Shetland

01:26
Just had a closer look at one of the stone houses found everywhere around in Shetland. It looks nearly fully made from stone, even the roof tiles. I guess this way of building became popular because the type of rocks found on Shetland is particularly suitable for stacking and stonemasonary, it splits neatly on smaller flat blocks, it doesn't have very high density and its found everywhere around.

Walk along the coast from Rezovo to Sinemorec

14:22
The staring point of the trek was the Rezovo River, which serves as border between Turkey and Bulgaria and therefore is the most southern point on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The village with the matching name Rezovo happen that is small and pretty pleasant place by the look of it. From there after a bit of walking there are interesting rock formations called Kastrich, after that was something that really surprised me big fence with barbed wire and cameras patrolled by armed police and soldiers which were on high alert because of illegal immigrants trying to enter the country from Turkey, so in fact the passage along the coast is closed and one must got to the main road, which is couple of kilometres away and cross there. After that there is the very famous beach called Silistar, which is a natural reserve and I guess it used to be place were animals and plants can live without being destroyed, but I use past tense, because it looks now kind of the opposite thing, way too many cars and people and actually worse then the average. The sand lily was very nice species indeed, but it is picked up by people not caring about the nature or not interested to know is its protected or not. For example there was a plaque dedicated to two life guards who died saving a child and it was decorated with sand lilies. And later on during the trek are the beaches Listi and Lipite. Lipite seems to be one of the designated as naturist/nudist beaches and looks very nice place, in fact much better then the more popular Silistar and Butamyata. After Lipite with half hour walk is Butamyata and the village Sinemorec. Important point to note is that there are couple very dangerous for walking areas, where the trail passes exactly on the edge of 30-40m high nearly vertical cliffs, which on top of that are some kind of easily crumbling rocks and I'd advise to be prepared physicaly for a bit of bouldering and to use suitable foot gear.

Ancient ruins and ceramic in North-West Bulgaria

02:29
This area, just like most of the country has a lot of ruins and remains of ancient dwelings, spaning from early Neolit to modern times. These particular walls I believe were part of Roman baths and are probably younger then most of the other ruins. I found the pieces shown in this video laying in the corn and sunflower fields around and sadly many times broken by the agricultural machines. It took me no more then half an hour to gather all that. Also its rarer but there still can be found laying on the ground early iron age spear heads and other weapons, but coins and other objects of collector's interest are nearly gone after the diligent browsing with metal detercors by all kind of dark balkan subjects in the last 30 years. I plan in some of the next days to have a better look and who knows may be find something really interesting.

Visiting Ilha da Barretta (also known as Deserta) - Algarve, Portugal

10:07
I put together some video clips from my visit to Ilha da Barretta (also known as Ilha Deserta), Portugal. The name implicates desert place, but actually even if secluded and not really accessible it is kind of normal beach, except there are very few people and most of the time I couldn't see any at all. This also is the reason that place to be known as a popular naturist or nudist destination. I also learnt that on this small island is found the Southernmost point of Portugal, Cabo de Santa Maria, which while nothing exceptional is still kind of cool fact. At some point I am showing pretty large shell from Mediterranean Geoduck (Panopea glycymeris), which is one of the bigger and more interesting mollusks living at these places.

Tent from single 2x3 tarp sheet, enclosed with floor for £2

07:14
There is updated video of how to make this tent/bivvi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oA1O8BPlQI After receiving e-mails and questions how exactly I configure and pitch up my double tent-cape I realized that it may not be so obvious, so I decided to upload this video in which I am showing to a friend of mine - Karen how to do it. I hope now is clearer how this is done. In short, 2x3 m (6x9 ft) tarp (tarpaulin or any other waterproof and strong enough material cut with sides 2 by 3), 2 sticks at 1.2 m (or 4 ft) each, 2 pegs (or just sharpened pieces of wood) and piece of string are used and the pitching up should take only a couple of minutes if practiced. It could be used as rain-cape or hammock, weights around 350 gr and is very compact and light compared to the retail tents. And just to note in the video the sides don't align perfectly, because this tarp was not with sides 2 by 3 exactly and the eyelets were not evenly spaced, but its still good enough for £2 tent. However if anybody wishes to invest some time, it can be cut to proper size and the eyelets can be realigned and the result will be very neat fully enclosed double tent. For exact proportions and folding geometry look at http://www.farstrider.co/2016/04/new-tent-design.html For my previous video about testing it in rain this tent see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwqXR7xmyyU And for a video about pitching up and configuration of the single tent see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IvawMI0SlQ
