In this video, belly dancer Irina Akulenko teaches you how to do hip lifts and a basic shimmy. You'll be shaking it like Shakira in no time. So, now, we are going to go over the basic hip lift. Let's assume our basic belly dance posture position. So, the legs are right under the hip bones. Knees are bent. Lower abs are tucked, chest lifted, arms out. And now you are going to bend the knees even more than before and focus on lifting one hip at a time by straightening one knee at a time. So, as you straighten the right knee, the right hip will come up and it is going to shoot straight up into your body. So you want to think about meeting your hip bone up to the ribcage coming back down to center. Switching over to the other side, straightening that knee, coming back down. Make sure you're keeping your heels on the floor and you are not lifting up with any point. And again, lifting the hip up and back down to neutral position, the other side back down to position. Now, skip that hold in the middle and you're going to go up, and up and up, and up. And, the closer your are to the ground, the easier it will be to find that isolation. Let's try that with music. And a little bit faster, keeping your heels on the floor, chest floating out, arms relaxed. Make sure you are not moving in space and your head is not bopping up and down. And faster. And full speed. And that is the basic hip isolation.

How to Lucid Dream

01:57
Watch more Dreams & Dream Interpretation videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/35924-How-to-Lucid-Dream Learning how to lucid dream—that is, to be aware during your dreams that you are, indeed, dreaming—will allow you to live out fantasies, stop nightmares, and even road test some solutions to real life problems. Step 1: Start a dream journal Keep a journal and a pen next to your bed so you can immediately record everything that happens in your dreams. You’ll begin to see patterns, and that will help you realize when you’re actually in the middle of a dream. Step 2: Adopt some new habits Look intently at mirrors, book titles, and your watch face several times a day. In dreams, these images are always blurred. Looking at them while awake will increase their appearances in your dreams, helping you recognize when you are dreaming. Tip Pinching yourself when you’re awake is another good way to train your brain to recognize when you’re dreaming, because when you pinch yourself in a dream you feel no pain. Step 3: Talk to yourself Tell yourself as you drift off to sleep that you’re going to have a lucid dream. Research shows that simply instructing your brain to realize you’re dreaming—especially when you’re in the suggestible pre-sleep phase—helps boost your odds of doing so. Step 4: Set an early alarm Set your alarm half an hour earlier than normal. When it rings, stay awake 30 to 60 minutes, then go back to sleep. Because you likely interrupted dream-intense REM sleep, you’re now 20% to 50% more likely to have a lucid dream. Tip So George Clooney is about to kiss you and you feel like you’re starting to wake up? Pretend to spin around in circles. This keeps the dream going 96% of the time. Step 5: Start directing Once you’re attuned to the fact that you’re dreaming, start altering the action. Fly over mountains. Tell off your mother-in-law. Have a 'dream' date. You can also test problem-solving scenarios, practice sensitive confrontations, and speak to loved ones who have passed. Did You Know? Lewis Carroll was inspired to write Alice in Wonderland after having a lucid dream.

So right now I'm going to share with you five advanced techniques, some moves that you might not always think about, but some pretty interesting ways to kind of use your body and coordinate some motion. The first example is something called a rose move, and a rose move is when you actually open away from the walls, that your hips are facing in a different direction. Often times the way the holds are laid out on the wall will dictate whether or not these types of moves are going to be necessary. So the rose move would be when my left hand was here, and I'm crossing underneath with my right hand, turning my hips away from the wall. Another example of an advanced technique will be what's known as a knee bar. A knee bar is when you're using not necessarily your knee, but more commonly the to of your thigh, and you're going to use that thigh and your foot to really create some opposition and allow your body to really be weighted on just that knee bar, and the tension that you're getting between those two points. So right there you'll notice I can take all my body weight and place it right here on this knee bar with my left foot really pushing and getting that thigh up against that hold, which allows me to turn this corner. One other technique would be similar to using a toe hook, except you're using two toe hooks at the same time, which is also known as a bat hang. In this instance, a bat hang allows me to make this change in angle and complete this transition. So that would be a bat hang. Another technique is something known as a bicycle, and a bicycle is where you're using the bottom side of your toe and the top of your toe, which would be a toe hook, at the same time to basically squeeze one hold or two holds together to create that same sense of opposition, almost like closing a vice. So right here I'll use a bicycle on this yellow hold to keep both of my feet up, keep my body in position. So in this position, you can see one leg is pulling, the other leg is pushing the whole time, I have my core involved to help keep those legs up, my body in position. That's how you use a bicycle. The final move here is something known as a drop knee. The drop knee is a great way to kind of lower your center of gravity, and keep it in your base of support, which are the contact points you have with the wall. When your center of gravity is lower, your base of support, it makes you more stable, more capable of doing a move slowly, with a bit more control. So to get into the drop knee, I'll place my left foot on this hold, and then literally turn my knee in, dropping it down, and twisting up. That drop knee allows you to really keep your center of gravity nice and low within your base of support, making your body nice and balanced and stable, really allows you to suck that hip in nice and close to the wall, to get a little bit of extra reach out of that whole system. And those are a couple of advanced bouldering techniques you might encounter here in the gym.

How to Tie a Merovingian Knot | Men's Fashion

We're in New York. And I'm going to teach you how to tie the Merovingian knot. It's also called Ediety knot. So the way you want to start for this knot, it's a knot that goes around the narrow side quite a few times, so you want to wear the wide end fairly long compared to the narrow end, probably about 20 inches below depending on the length of your tie. So this is how you start. The wide end goes underneath the narrow end. You go over the top once and pull it out on the same side. So this is what you have. Now you go over to the front, underneath through the back, and now you should be in this position so the tie is upside down. So this is a tie from my friend Cara Patrizio from Capelli in Naples, Italy. And this is how you proceed. So your tie is upside down. You go around the back, through the top. You're almost there. Now the last step you have to complete is reverse the knot, loosen it gently, and slide the white part inside the loop that you've created for that. Adjust it nicely. Tighten the knot, and there you go. You have your Merovingian knot. So after spending so much time tying the knot, it's something you don't want to wear when you're really casual. It's really a knot that is used in formal occasions, probably wearing a three piece suit, for example, or a nice blazer. And definitely going with a sophisticated look with this type of knot. The guy who created this knot probably watch Matrix a little bit too much, but this is probably where the name came from, the Merovingian knot.

What Military Branch Should You Join? | Boot Camp

01:50
Watch more Boot Camp: Learn about Basic Training videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/498622-What-Military-Branch-Should-You-Join-Boot-Camp Let's review some of the basics about each branch. First of all the marines, they are considered riflemen first. They have more marksmanship training than any other branch, and it has the most difficult basic training regimen. They have the incredible ability to convert dollar power into combat power, as they have no big budget like the Air Force, but they also have lots of military pride. Let's talk about the army, which has the second most intense basic training regimen. They have about three weeks of marksmanship, and recruits can pick from hundreds of different MOS's, which stands for military occupational specialty, and those MOS's translate well into civilian jobs. The navy: deep rooted with tradition, and if you like to travel this is the branch for you. Family men might want to consider the time they are going to spend away from their family though, given the fact that all of the time you are going to spend on ships. Also, if you are claustrophobic, it might not be a good idea to join the Navy, as you are going to be spending a lot of time in tight quarters. If you like large vessels and ships, the Navy is definitely the way to go. They have an awesome inventory of powerful ships. Let's talk about the Air Force. An impressive compilation of machinery and technology. If you are good with computers and technology this is definitely the branch that you should join. It also has the best housing of all the branches too. It's also the most difficult to get into as far as education requirements. The Coast Guard, Uncle Sam's little canoe club. If you like search and rescue missions, if you have an interest in maritime law, if you like environmental protection this is gonna be a good branch for you. You are going to need a high school diploma, and you are going to need to love to swim in order to join the coast guard. And that's it. Think long and hard about your decision because it is difficult to change once you have committed to a certain branch.

The most important thing is how to finish your flair routine. You're doing all sorts of stuff, bottles are going all over the place, everyone's sitting there like this watching everything you're doing all in awe, how do you finish, how to you pour the bottle? The last thing you want to do is do all this crazy stuff, and then just take the bottle and go like that, it's anticlimactic, it doesn't work. So what we want to do is we want to learn how to do is Flip to Pour. What you're going to do is you're going to hold your bottle in what's called a bartender grip. Instead of holding it like this, we're going to hold it by the neck just like a bartender would take it out of the bottle or out of their well. What we're going to do is we're going to take our bottle, we're going to take our tin, the mouth is going to face up because that's what we're going to pour it into. We're going to take our bottle and you're going to snap it outward, away from your body, and what you're going to do is as soon as you let go of your bottle you're going to simply open your hand and the bottle is going to fall right back into it. It looks like this, it's really easy actually. It's a one-rotation, you're just going to snap, open, and let the bottle fall into your hand It's already in a pouring position. With your other hand you're going to have your tin set here ready to go. You're going to flip, catch, and you're already pouring the bottle. Then as you get more and more comfortable, you go to glass with liquid in it. Because we're flipping the bottle centrifugal force is involved so we want to make sure that the bottle has less than two ounces, or two ounces or less. Any more than that and this move can't be done, we'd have to figure out a different way to pour. Maybe we could take the bottle and throw it around our head, but in this case what we're going to do is, we're going to take our bottle, our tin, we're going to set it, we're going to flip, and we're going to pour. When you're done you bring your bottle down to cut the pour and then were going to just put our tin on the bar. If we're doing shots maybe we'll pour it straight from a tin into our glass. So again, just to reiterate the concept, we're going to take our bottle, we're going to put our tin here, we're going to flip our bottle, catch our bottle, and pour. When we're ready to stop we're going to simply bring our bottle down, we're going to pour it into our glass or whatever we're pouring it into, and that is how you do a Bottle Flip to a Pour.

How to Survive a School or Office Shooting

Watch more Disaster Survival & Worst-Case Scenarios videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/217693-How-to-Survive-a-School-or-Office-Shooting Nobody thinks it’s going to happen to them – until it does. Be prepared to survive a shooting rampage, just in case. Step 1: Run Run first; ask questions later. Don’t miss your opportunity to escape by wasting time debating whether that noise was really a gunshot. Tip If you’re running from a shooter, run in a zigzag pattern. He’ll have a harder time hitting you, and the odds are even lower he’ll hit a major organ or artery. Step 2: Barricade the door If you’re trapped in a building with a shooter, lock yourself in a room and barricade the door with heavy furniture. The predator is likely to move on to more accessible victims. Step 3: Find a weapon Find some sort of weapon – a pair of scissors, a letter opener, hot coffee, a stapler, a fire extinguisher. Even if you don’t injure the attacker, you may be able to distract him or throw him off balance. Step 4: Take cover Take cover behind something sturdy, like a file cabinet or a metal desk. Tip Don’t make eye contact with or speak to the shooter. But if he talks to you, respond with an absurd question in the hopes of throwing him off guard. Step 5: Listen for reloading Listen for the 'click' that indicates his revolver is out of bullets, or the metallic clang that means the empty cartridge of his automatic pistol has fallen to the floor. He’ll have to pause to reload, giving you and others a chance to tackle him or escape. Step 6: Slow bleeding If you do get shot, slow the bleeding by keeping direct pressure on the wound. Tip If you think you might pass out from blood loss, place a hard object under your body, just above the wound, and lay on top of it. That way, if you do lose consciousness, your body weight will keep pressure on the wound. Step 7: Fight back If you find yourself unable to avoid a life-or-death struggle with the shooter, go for his most vulnerable areas: gouge his eyes with your index and middle fingers; jab his Adam’s apple; or knee him in the groin. Step 8: Report odd behavior Help prevent shooting rampages in the first place by reporting any odd behavior or threats to someone in authority. Did You Know? Homicide is the second leading cause of death on the job, after motor vehicle accidents.

How to Study Effectively

Watch more How to Study videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/316183-How-to-Study-Effectively Many people find studying to be a real drag, but if you're going to do it, you may as well do it right. Step 1: Choose the right environment Choose an environment for studying where you will be free from distractions including phone calls, television, or other interruptions. Step 2: Prioritize your studies Prioritize your study materials so that the most important or the hardest is finished first. Step 3: Read for comprehension Read your materials over once for basic comprehension. Don't stress about remembering it all on the first read. Step 4: Read and take notes Read the material again, taking notes and summarizing the main ideas in your own words. Tip Make new material stick by relating it to something you already know or care about. Context and emotion enhance our ability to remember. Step 5: Use you senses Use your senses to assist with learning. When possible, don't just read, but listen to lectures or podcasts, and watch instructional videos. Build a rich understanding of the material. Step 6: Quiz yourself Quiz yourself without the aid of any notes. Write down your answers or speak them aloud. In other words, rehearse for the test. Tip Take a nap after a heavy study session to allow your brain time to rest. Napping after studying can help with recall. Step 7: Test yourself again Test yourself again and again, at different times of the day and week. This "self-testing" will reinforce your studies so that when the real test arrives, you'll be ready. Did You Know? In ancient Greece and Rome, people used the "loci" memorization method, which involves visualizing placing each thing you need to remember in a familiar room or on a familiar road, and picking it up as you take a mental walk around the room or down the road.

It's kind of like riding a bike in that when you know how to do it, you're going to know how to do it forever. It's quite tricky to actually get there. The concept basically in a nutshell is to form a pocket of air in your mouth, like that, and to close off your throat so you're not breathing. You're not connected to your lungs anymore. The air in your mouth is not connected to your lungs. And you just push it out like that. While you're doing that, you breathe in through your nose and refill your lungs. Sounds really tricky, but if you can slow down the time it takes for the pocket of air in your mouth the empty, it gives you more time to breath and start the air flow again smoothly. That gives you a good amount of time. The best way to practice this away from a didgeridoo is to sit yourself down with a scotch glass and a straw and some water, and just try to keep the bubbles consistent by doing that. That can go on forever. When we get to the saxophone, we take something that we already know like long tones and just try to keep the tone consistent. That's how you circular breathe.

So first stretch we are going to put our both legs out, like this, and we're going to go down, come up and maybe add like a little twist. Maybe I might do that four to eight times. So we're going to go one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. After you do that a couple of times warming up, now you go down for the stretch. You try to grab your toes and try to keep your upper body low as you can and maybe forward again 10 to 30 seconds and up. If you guys have a little trouble doing this exercise, again, you can start out grabbing the ankles or you can tuck your knees in, grab your toes and slowly work down this way and hold. OK? It takes time. Now the other stretch we are going to do is we are going to put one leg in and one leg out. Keep your upper body straight and try to stretch down. Try to put your head to your knees and go as low as you can. Again, hold about 10 to 30 seconds, come up and switch to the other side and down and up. The next stretch we are going to do is called the butterfly stretch. We are going to put our knees together. One. Now make sure you put your feet all the way in like this. I like to grab my toes and bounce my knees like a butterfly. So do this again maybe 10 to 30 times, bounce, warming up. Now it's time to go down. We're going to keep our backs straight and exhale and breathe down, going down, breathing out. Now up. Now we're going to do this thing called a split stretch. Now we're going to open our legs as wide as you can. Now, again, I like to maybe open a little wider by putting my hands forward and hands back and then kind of push my hip forward, trying to get as much as you can. Now the first thing we're going to do is stretch down the middle. So we're going to go down, one. Now, again, you're trying to go as low as you can, trying to keep your stomach to the ground. Again, hold about 10 to 30 seconds. Up. Go to the side. Use your hands and try to grab your toes. Up. Go to the other side. And these are some ground stretches. I encourage you guys to stretch before, definitely before class, and also when your body is really warmed up, it's great to stretch after class also.

Sea weed, rough side up, this is a half sea weed with your hand. And I'm going to do it inside out. Inside the roll is, rice is outside. Regular roll is sea weed is outside. So we're going to spread the rice on the sea weed, cover each corner, each edge with rice then we flip over so that the rice goes outside. Now I'm going to flip over. Crab cake, avocado, cucumber. This technique is called sankyo. Or number three in the series of techniques that O'Sensei established. And again, this whole series, one through five, is going to start with ikkyo. So if we look at shomenuchi, ikkyo, you meet and down. Again, I want to lift the hand so that I'm looking at the palm of my partner's hand. Reach underneath. I'm going to wrap my fingers right around the inside of the palm. And the fingers are another aspect that I have. I'm going to step back. And think about pointing all of this directly at your partner as they turn and cut. Again, this is very similar to the sword work that we do in aikido. Again, I don't want to point the fingers down and cut with the butt of the sword. I want to try to cut out with the tip and the elbow of the sword. And I'm going to continue to move around the front, irimi tenkan and down. The pin incorporated here, sankyo pin. Alright. So again, you start with ikkyo. Ikkyo, lift, take the hand and step back, cut, irimi tenkan, straight down on the shoulder and pin. So if we look at the ura variation. Again, I move to the back side first, lift, continue to move behind and down, spiraling movement towards ugay's back. Up for the pin, pull through. Ura, lift, hand position, tenkan, and back. Up for the pin, pull through. Couple other variations that we'll often see, straight down, straight up. Can also use sankyo to create openings for other techniques. Sankyo, number three.

But you really shouldn't be afraid, because sour is actually just a style of cocktail. Back in the 19th century a sour just meant a drink that had a spirit, citrus and some sugar or simple syrup. That's really all a whiskey sour is, it's whiskey, lemon juice and simple syrup. One of my favorite things about this drink is it's a great way to still have whiskey, if you really like whiskey in hot weather in the summer, because it's a really refreshing drink. So we're going to start with our spirit. Two ounces of rye whiskey, you can also use bourbon. I just love rye whiskey, let's face it. But this is also a drink that bourbon works great in too. Now we'll do equal parts sugar and citrus. Three-quarters of an ounce of simple syrup. Again that's just one part sugar to one part water dissolved together. Three-quarters of an ounce of fresh-squeezed lemon juice, very important. You know that's the step that people decided they didn't want to do, and so instead they created sour mix, which then made people hate the whiskey sour. So this is the most important ingredient in your whiskey sour. Now I'm going to do something else that's a very classic touch to the whiskey sour. It might scare you a little bit, but just bear with me. I'm going to add a little bit of egg white. There's alcohol in there, so whatever fears you have of raw eggs, whatever could maybe be in there, the alcohol is going to kill, so don't worry about that. What it's going to do is not really add so much in the way of taste, but it's going to add a really nice frothy texture that's going to be great. So we're going to do the egg whites, so just separate the egg white. Here you go. Toss the rest. As always it is very handy to have a trash can nearby to make your life easier. Whenever there's a raw egg in the drink, we're going to do something called a dry shake, which means to shake it without ice first to emulsify the egg. Then we'll shake it again with ice to chill it. Just a few shakes to do that. You can see it's nice and frothy. Now we'll add our ice. Whiskey sour is a drink that you can serve on the rocks or up. I like it on the rocks, especially if you have those really nice ice cube trays that make the big 1 x 1 cubes, which I happen to have on hand. You'll see the results in a minute. Just so you can see, that ice cube is perfectly square. That means it won't melt as fast in the drink. There are only four ice cubes in there, so it won't water down your drink too fast. Okay, and now it's time to shake for real. Oh yeah, check this out. See how frothy that is? It gives it a really nice, silky texture. That's all from the egg white and again, it's not really going to add anything in the way of flavor. We're going to garnish the whiskey sour with an orange and cherry flag. it will really liven things up. See we have a toothpick, you kind of spear it like that and then grab your cherries. One right on top and then sort of get in there, so the top is poking out. And there you have it, so no need to be afraid anymore. That is how you make a classic whiskey sour.

How to Survive a Hurricane

03:31
Watch more Hurricanes & Storms videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/471526-How-to-Survive-a-Hurricane Don't wait until a storm is heading your way! Survive a hurricane with these safety precautions. Step 1: Plan ahead Plan ahead. Know the location of local shelters and how you'll evacuate if you don't have a car. If you have family members with special medical needs, ask local officials if there's a registry so they get help in the event of power outages. Pick a place for family members to meet in case you become separated, and designate an out-of-town friend as the person everyone calls to report that they're safe. Get flood insurance if you don't already have it. Tip Make sure you know how to shut off electricity, gas, and water in case you're instructed to do so. Step 2: Be prepared Have the following supplies on hand at the start of hurricane season: a 3-day supply of water that provides 1 gallon per person per day; a 3-day supply of non-perishable food that doesn't require cooking; a flashlight and extra batteries; a battery-powered radio that can receive broadcasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; a first-aid kit; and a 7-day supply of medications. Tip The Atlantic and Central Pacific hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30; the Eastern Pacific is from May 15 through November. Step 3: Get ready If a hurricane warning is issued -- meaning one is expected in the next 36 hours -- bring in anything that can be tossed around by the wind; close and board up all windows and doors with 5/8" marine plywood, unless you have hurricane shutters; clear rain gutters and downspouts; trim trees and shrubs; put your refrigerator and freezer on the coldest setting; and fill your car's gas tank in case you're ordered to evacuate. Step 4: Go to a safe place If you live on the first or 2nd floor of a high rise, make plans to take refuge with neighbors between floors 3 and 10 when the storm begins. Residents who live above the 10th floor should evacuate, as should mobile home dwellers and anyone living on a floodplain, near a river, or on an inland waterway. Step 5: Do last-minute preparations Shortly before the storm is expected to start, fill your bathtub with water so you have an extra supply on hand. Unplug small appliances and sensitive electronics, and turn off propane tanks. Step 6: Ride out the storm When the storm starts, stay away from windows and glass doors and avoid using the phone. Go to your home's lowest level and stay in an interior room, closet, or hallway. Have a mattress or pillow to protect your head. Monitor weather conditions on your radio and don't leave your safe place until local officials say it's okay to do so. Step 7: Avoid post-storm dangers If you lose electricity, keep circuit breakers turned off until power is restored, then check for frayed wires. If you see any, call the power company. Leave the house immediately if you smell gas. If you're returning home, don't enter your house if floodwaters remain around the building; you see loose power lines or structural damage; or you smell a gas leak. If you have any safety concerns at all, stay elsewhere until your home is checked by a building inspector or structural engineer. Did You Know? 2/3 of the hurricanes that hit land in the United States between 1981 and 2011 struck the Gulf Coast. The other third hit the Atlantic Coast.

Oui, oui. Je suis le magicien And right now, we're going to show you the tourniquet vanish, or commonly known as the French drop vanish, which is one of the oldest coin vanishes in print. Let's actually take a look at it here. I'm going to take coin, and we'll make it vanish. Like that. The book version tends to teach it like this. The version that I personally prefer, looks like this, where the coin is twisted and vanished. Both have their place. If you're beginner, I personally would recommend just learning the book version, where you reach in with your thumb, and you're grabbing the coin. As you grab the coin, the coin drops. At the same time, your right hand turns over, concealing the coin from view. You can then crush your hand and turn it over, then show that the coin has vanished. And then you can pull it out of someone's ear, or you could pull it out from behind your leg, whichever reappearance of the coin that you prefer. So once again, your hand comes over. As your fingers go through, the coin is dropped. The coin is then shown to appear in this hand, just by keeping your hand natural. This is not natural. This is natural. If you were to grab a coin normally, you'd just take the coin like that. So try and mimic normal actions, by taking the coin, giving it a little blow, and making it vanish. A subtlety to the French drop vanish is where you twist the coin right before you drop it into your right hand. This was taught to me by a magician, John Blake, where you take your pointer finger and you swivel the coin, once again right before you drop it. And would be a retention of the eye for the spectators, those who are watching you do this trick. Watch. Just give a little twist. A little blow. The coin vanishes.

How to Perform the Heimlich Maneuver (Abdominal Thrusts)

Watch more First Aid videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/164491-How-to-Perform-the-Heimlich-Maneuver-Abdominal-Thrusts Abdominal thrusts—also known as the Heimlich maneuver—can be used to expel a foreign object lodged in a choking victim's windpipe. Warning Never practice the Heimlich maneuver on an infant under a year old or on a person who is not choking. You could cause serious injury. Step 1: Confirm choking Confirm the victim is choking. If they are coughing, they are not choking – yet – so encourage them to continue. Signs of choking include the universal hand sign of clutching one's hands to the throat; the inability to cough or speak; labored or noisy breathing; bluish skin, lips, and nails; and loss of consciousness. Tip Don't slap a coughing person on the back – it doesn't help and can make them start to choke. Step 2: Call 911 Once you determine the person is choking, act quickly but calmly. First, send someone to call 911. Step 3: Help the victim stand Help the victim stand, if they're not already on their feet, and stand behind them with your chest to their back. Step 4: Wrap your arms around the victim Wrap your arms around the victim's torso, making a fist with your dominant hand, and center it against the victim's upper abdomen, thumb inward, above the navel and below the rib cage. With your other hand, cover your fist for support. Tip If you cannot reach your arms around their abdomen or if the victim is pregnant, compress their chest between the breasts at the breastbone. Make firm, backward thrusts. Step 5: Thrust inward and upward Quickly thrust inward and slightly upward with your fist, as if you're trying to lift the victim off their feet, causing air to rush out of their lungs. Tip Don't squeeze the rib cage as you thrust upward. Otherwise you could break a bone. Step 6: Repeat Repeat the thrusts until the object dislodges, or the victim loses consciousness. Step 7: Wait for medical help If the object does not come free and the victim loses consciousness, proceed with CPR until EMTs arrive. Step 8: Save yourself To perform the Heimlich maneuver on yourself, lean your upper abdomen over a hard horizontal surface (such as a railing or the back of a chair) and use it to deliver strong, upward thrusts. Did You Know? Besides inventing the famous abdominal maneuver, Dr. Henry Heimlich also invented a chest valve that saved thousands of wounded soldiers in Vietnam.

Now, when it comes to potty training your parrot, the thing you need to realize is that birds are wild animals. They're going to poop every 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the species. So, the first thing you got to do is get out of your mind that you're going to have a perfect potty train that'll never poop on anything. Because no matter how good of a job you do, accidents will still happen. So, stock up on good cleaning supplies: a wetvac, a mop, anything you can use to clean your parrots nest is good. The less of a big deal you make about the parrot making a mess, the less you're going to encourage any of that type of behavior. Another strategy is to keep the parrot on parrot-approved places, like this tree right here. The bottom is made to be easy to clean. So, if the parrots spent a lot of their time on parrot places instead of on human furniture, you're less likely to have a mess throughout your house. Part of the strategy for keeping your parent on parrot-approved places is to do a lot of training, like the tricks we've been going over. If you teach your parrots tricks on their training arches and trees, they're more familiar with spending time on those places and their more likely to go over to them when they're out and about. Now, when it comes to actually the potty training process, you can't really do it the same way that you teach normal tricks such as clicking and giving a treat. That's known to make parrots hold it in for too long and that can actually hurt their digestive system. So, instead, it's important to encourage the parrot to poop on it's designated places but not mandate it. So, the strategy is to realize how long between poops that your bird goes. If you realize that you have a small bird and it goes every five minutes, that's going to be the number you go for. The bigger bird might be half an hour. But these guys, maybe about 15 minutes. So, what Im going to do, when I want to just spend time with my bird, I want to have him on my shoulder, on me, I will hold them and make sure that I'm not spending more than the allotted time between when they go to do their business. So, I might pick up the bird and hold it for ten minutes. Knowing that they're going to poop in 15. Play with them, do whatever I want to do with my pet. Then, I'm going to go and put them back down on their stand after ten minutes elapses. Now, I'm going to wait five minutes until they finally take their poop, whatever that comes out to. And as soon as they do, I'm going to make a big deal. Be like "Wow, that was very good! That's great!" And I'll come back over and pick up the bird and spend more time with it again. And then ten minutes goes by. I feel like a next poop is due. Before it can happen, I'll put her back down on the perch and wait until she does it. After you do this for a couple weeks or months, your parrot will catch on that the sooner they do their business when they're put down, the sooner you'll pick them up and keep spending time with them. So, they learn to naturally do more of they're business around their perches instead of on you or on unapproved human furniture areas. If your parrot wings aren't clip and they're flighted, they can even learn to fly back to they're stand when they need to go, which is really convenient if you lose track of timing. If they're familiar and accustomed to pooping on their stand, they'll fly over when they need to go. The last thing you can do to encourage your parrot do it's business on it's poopy perch is when you take it out first thing in the morning, put it down on it's perch and wait until it's goes. Most parrots hold it in at night and they have to go really bad in the morning and they try to avoid going in their cages. So, as soon as you take them out, put them right down on their poopy perch and let them go. And after they're done, you can pick them up and do your normal routine with them. This way, they learn to go to that designated place and to hold it in until you put them down and it's time to do it. So, that's some tips for you about potty training your parrot.

How to Escape a Car Sinking in Deep Water

02:06
Watch more Driving & Car Safety videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/117114-How-to-Escape-a-Car-Sinking-in-Deep-Water It can happen in an instant: Your car ends up in the water, and it’s sinking fast. Here’s how to get out. Step 1: Calm down Stem panic by reminding yourself that your car will usually float for a minute or two before it begins to sink. Use this time to unfasten your seat belt, open the driver-side window or a sunroof, and unlock the doors. Tip As long as you keep your keys in the ignition, the electrical system likely will work until the car is submerged enough for the system to short out. Step 2: Break the window If you were unable to open your side window, break it with your elbow, heels, or -- better still -- anything pointy you have on hand, like a pen or screwdriver. Aim for the center of the window. Don’t bother with the windshield; it's made to be unbreakable. Tip Hardware stores sell tools specifically designed to break car windows in an emergency. Step 3: Undress If the car is sinking slowly, take off your shoes. If you’re wearing jeans and you have time, remove those as well. Both weigh you down, making swimming to the surface more difficult. Step 4: Get out Climb out the window before the car becomes submerged, and swim to the surface. Tip Memorize the acronym POGO: Pop seat belt, Open the window, and Get Out. Step 5: Wait until car fills If you were unable to get out through the window, don’t panic! Let the car fill with water, knowing that once it does, the water pressure inside and out will be equalized, allowing you to open the door and escape. Tip Hang on to the door handle as the car fills with water so you don’t float and become disoriented if the car flips. Step 6: Open the door When the water reaches your chin, take a deep breath and hold it. Then open the door and swim out headfirst. If you’re not sure which way is up, look for bubbles and swim in the direction in which they’re rising. Did You Know? Magician Criss Angel escaped from the locked trunk of a car submerged in a lake as one of his stunts.

A few, this one is called a Jersey Wally, this one is a Rex the grey one, this one is a Flemish Giant, this one is a New Zealand White and we have here a little buddy called a Lion Head and next to him is a Netherlands Dwarf. We actually DE-emphasize breeds when people are adopting bunnies we always tell them no matter how beautiful the rabbit, no matter how much you love the breed, the thing to pay attention to really is the personality. And I told Amy once that is kind of like when you are dating a guy that is just really gorgeous and you find out that the personality isn't there, you don't care about the looks after a while it is very, very interesting. I had somebody come into my apartment one time to adopt only a Lap rabbit. The Lap rabbits are the ones that have the down ears. We don't have a Lap rabbit here but they have the ears that go down like a Cocker Spaniels and this lady came in and she said she only wanted consider a Lap and I had a couple of Laps and she loved one of them and started righting the adoption papers to take him home. But every time she went by this other rabbits cage the rabbit would stick his head out and look at her and try to make eye contact with her and after a couple of minutes she said you know Mary I think this rabbits trying to tell me something . So I said I think he is too , why don't you put down the Lap ear rabbit and go over and talk to that rabbit. And long story short she did and ended up adopting that second rabbit and the rabbit was definitely reaching out to her. It wasn't a breed she was interested in but the personality was so out going and so affectionate and she just loved him to pieces. So, we always tell people look at the different breeds for sure, we get all breeds into shelters all the time but go by the personality. It is much more Speaker 2: But normally you wouldn't put a bunch of rabbits together like this because they always don't get along, right? Speaker 1: Thanks for saying that, this is a challenge to have all these rabbits together on the same table . We have male, male, next to each other female, female next to each other that's not an easy thing to do in the rabbit world. Were really careful about putting rabbits together and we're just doing this to give an idea of different breeds. We want to make sure that we stay safe here. Speaker 2: Wow. Speaker 1: We are keeping the rabbits from each other for that reason. Speaker 2: Look at all the different coats. Speaker 1: Look at all the hair flying in the air from all these different coats. Speaker 2: Rabbit breeds.

Gentlemen, when we're leading the ladies in bachata, first off if you're dancing in open position, make sure that your arms are nice and relaxed, your palms are facing up and you're not gripping the ladies with your thumb. Very important, her hands are resting on your hands, and when you're doing the basic you keep this lead throughout, until you're ready to move to a different move or go to a different side. So we're going to start with the basic. One, two, three tap. Five, six, seven tap. Notice I'm not putting my thumbs into place, unless there's something that I need to tell her. Here I'm going to slide into closed position and my hand position changes. From here when you switch your hand position, make sure you have a little grip on the ladies. So that you can use this grip to lead her, either forward or back, by taking your whole posture to the front. Nice and firm and hold it in the middle. One, two, three tap. Five, six and seven. Gentlemen, make sure that when you're leading your ladies left and right, you're actually using the upper body, your torso to push to the left, bring it in, push left and tap. And don't forget gentlemen, you can move your hip as well and the opposite of going the other way. So now you bring your hands inside. In, out, in tap. Out, in, out tap. In, out, in tap. So let me show you this gentlemen, your rib cage is going left and right as you're leading, and this also allow the ladies, since they're connected to us kind of like imaginary cables through our shoulders here, the ladies are going to be connected, so if we move our torso to the left, here torso goes to her right, and we end up going in the same direction. Gentlemen, make sure that when you switch the hand position your body language switches as well. For example, here we're nice and tight, our posture is straight, we're supporting the ladies, but then when we get to open position, you're more relaxed. You feel more relaxed, more confident. You can use your arms a little bit more, your shoulders. And when you're leading the turns gentlemen, make sure that you're leading properly, giving the ladies the cues, no matter which way you're going. Now I'm going to demonstrate some of these tips with the music. Let's start in closed position. So Gentlemen, notice our torso and now a different lead, forward and back. The torso is actually still doing the work, but you're just going linear, rather than to a side and now the hold in the middle. So here gentlemen, you want to be nice and relaxed. More shoulders, a little bit of hip. And when you're getting ready to lead the ladies, don't forget to give her the cue by bringing the arm up, and she's ready to turn, and at the end of the turn gentlemen, it's always a good leading tip to gather the ladies arm, all right? We can go into closed position and repeat the whole thing again and that is leading tips for men in bachata.

This is the basis for every samba dance class, so every different type of samba style that you're going to see forward, and to see yourself do this. So, basically, from this low, we're going to just learn how to get into this, shifting your weight from foot to foot. And then how to move a little bit faster with this samba step. The most important thing is the step one is on the head of the musical phrase and it's on the back. So, let's start one on the back. Step back one, take a small little step forward on two, and then bring together on three. And we're going to repeat the same thing on the left side, so left leg back. One, and together, right leg back. One, and together, left leg back. One and together, and right leg back. One, and together. So, you can keep your hands to your hips just so confused with the coordination with the arms yet. But just be really thinking of transferring the weight into that front foot from the back to the front and then bring it together. And to the back, and together. And back, and together. And back. And back, and back, and move a little bit faster. And... One very important detail. Men, you should do the samba with the foot right on the floor. Women are always up on the balls of their foot. So, guys, flat shoes, girls, high heels. Let's do it again. To the back. One two three, one two three, one two three, and a little bit faster. And... and slide together, slide together, slide together. Basic samba foot work.

How to Spot Sexual Attraction in Eyes | Body Language

03:34
Watch more How to Read Body Language videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501674-How-to-Spot-Sexual-Attraction-in-Eyes-Body-Language Out of all the different non-verbal behaviors, I think that spotting attraction is without a doubt the easiest. We are very emotional creatures and when we're attracted to somebody, it's very, very difficult to hide. People think they're hiding it, but things always slip. One of the ways they slip are essentially the eyes. There are a lot of different ways you can use the eyes to determine whether or not someone's attracted to you. The first thing is essentially eye contact. For the most part, usually we make eye contact with people that we're interested in or people that we're attracted to. Right? But this is not entirely true. Some people are shy or anxious and they're not going to make eye contact. So what you're looking for essentially is a deviation in eye contact. So one of the ways you can use eye contact and there's a little trick that's very, very reliable. So what you're going to do is if you look at somebody in a bar or restaurant or on the street and they break eye contact vertically, so they look down. So you make eye contact with them and they break eye contact vertically and then within 20-30 seconds they reestablish eye contact, approach them. They like you. It's a very, very reliable thing. Essentially what they're doing. You stare at them. They're submitting to you and then they take a little second glance to see who you are. It's very, very, very reliable. The opposite of that would be if you look at somebody and they look at you and they immediately go and break eye contact. Nope, not interested. But what is reliable is they break eye contact and they come back. Break eye contact and then come back. Break eye contact and then come back. It's very interesting. And don't let it wait. If you see that, go right away because the more and more you wait. The more and more eye contact becomes very, very awkward. One of the things that I do in one of my classes is I have people stare each other in the eyes for three minutes without saying anything. They just stare each other in the eyes like this. Try that. Go out and try to stare somebody in the eyes for even 90 seconds. I guarantee you can't do it. It's awkward. It's so awkward because humans are not really at a level intimacy. When you stare somebody in the eyes is so awkward when you're doing it with a stranger. Studies will show that if you stare somebody in the eyes for 90 seconds to three minutes, all of a sudden you're going to like that person a lot better than everybody else in the room because you kind of shared this emotional connection. So eye contact is important in that respect. The second thing you can look for essentially is blink rate. Now, this is really cool. So blink rate correlate with emotional excitement. When we are emotionally excited, our blink rates tend to increase. Right? Average blink rates tend to be below 20 blinks per minute. For most people it really depends on where you are, but it's really hard to nail down what the average blink rate is. But in my experience, it seems to be around 10 blinks per minute. Right? So you see, whenever you see a sudden spike or a bunch of sudden spikes in somebody's blink rate in can be an indication of attraction. In my dating studies you see blink rates through the roof because the person across the table from you has an emotional response. You're attracted to them. The third way of kind of using the eyes to determine attraction is dilation. It's very interesting. Our eyes dilate when we're attracted to something. Right? Go out and find a Maxim magazine or a Playboy magazine or any cover that's predominately men focusing. Every single woman will have her eyes dilated. You never, ever see them constricted. The reason why is because men perceive women with dilated eyes more attractive than women with more constricted eyes. To the point of back in the day prostitutes used to put a specific toxin in their eyes to make them dilate.

Watch more How to Study videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/413809-How-to-Study-for-a-Long-Time-without-Getting-Bored Facts and figures starting to blend together in a horrible haze? Here's how to keep from getting lost in brain space. Step 1: Eradicate distractions Enter a fortress of solitude -- research shows that low-level distractions can make a task feel boring. Hide your cellphone, tell your online social network to de-friend you instantly if they see you log in, and seal yourself in a quiet room. Tip If you're planning a really long cramming session, break it up with a nap. One study found an hour's worth of shut-eye can increase your ability to focus. Step 2: Embrace your emotions Emotional entanglement distracting you? Admit how you're feeling, even out loud -- those who can identify how they feel often have better focus. Step 3: Engage yourself Don't just take notes; engage with the material creatively. Invent a song about the topic at hand, or recreate historical events and fictional plotlines. It's easier to stay interested when you make the material come alive. Step 4: Take a shower Studied so long you've stopped absorbing material? Take a shower -- the change of pace will stimulate your mind and help refresh your body. Step 5: Make up a challenge Make a game out of your work to stave off boredom. Try to score higher and higher throughout your study session, and be sure to reward your triumphs. You've earned it! Did You Know? In 2009, a study found that nearly 50 percent of college freshmen that drink spent more time drinking than studying.

How to Speed Read

Watch more How to Improve Your Reading videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/111898-How-to-Speed-Read Improve your efficiency by learning how to read up to three times faster with these proven speed-reading techniques. Step 1: Skim Skim an entire article, chapter, or even book before you begin reading. Take in the title, introduction, any subheadings, and bold-type passages, so that when you start reading, you’ll already know the selection’s main points. Step 2: Let your finger do the walking Lead with your index finger, a pen, or your computer mouse, which keeps your eyes focused and moving ahead. This prevents them from darting around re-reading words, something the average person does to the tune of 20 words per page. Tip Move your pointer at a faster rate than you think you can read, which will retrain your brain by forcing you to keep up. Step 3: Shut up! Stop 'sounding out' each word in your head, or mouthing the words silently, two things many of us learned to do in grade school. U.S. Air Force research shows your brain can recognize a word in less than five-hundredths of a second, while it takes a quarter of a second—five times longer—to say it in your head. Step 4: “Chunk” Learning not to sound out words will help you 'chunk'—a technique that requires you to group together four or five words by skipping articles like 'the' and 'and.' You’ll still get the meaning, since these words aren’t needed for comprehension. Step 5: Keep going Train yourself to stop taking a short pause after each paragraph, something most of us do unconsciously. Tip When reading a passage on a computer screen, try highlighting the text in a dark color and changing the font color to white. Your eyes can more easily read white words on a dark background. Step 6: Practice Practice these techniques for at least 20 minutes a day, starting with books and articles printed in large fonts. As you practice, you’ll learn how to prioritize content, speeding you along even more. Did You Know? John F. Kennedy, a student of speed-reading, told a reporter he could read 1,200 words per minute, although he later admitted to exaggerating that number.

We're going to talk about attack and defense, but in the most rudimentary way possible because this is really what chess is all about. Volumes have been written about attack and defense. But, we're going to deal with this in the most straight forward way. Let's say white does E4, maybe the most common opening in chess. Black goes E5. Now, the most logical and probably the most expected continuation is knight to F3. Why? Because, we need to develop our pieces, our bishops and our knights immediately. So why not develop the knight that attacks black's central pawn. Now, this could be defended in a few ways. We could go, for example, bishop D6, but that not something you are likely to see a strong player do because you're blocking your queen's pawn and, therefore, your queen's bishop. And, it's just creating space problems for no reason. You could go D6. Although, you're falling behind in development. There's plenty of opening systems where D6 is acceptable, but be careful not to fall too far behind in development. We could go queen to E7, but that's not really logical because you're blocking your king's bishop which needs to be developed. So, the most common way to defend this E5 pawn and not fall behind in development would be knight to C6, keeping up with white in development and simply defending your E pawn. Now of course, if white were to make the absurd move of knight takes pawn, black would go knight takes knight and would be winning the game, immediately. But, white's not going to make that terrible mistake. They'll probably develop the bishop to C4 for the Italian game or B5 for the Spanish game, or maybe knight to C3 for the Scotch game. But, that's an example of how to defend a pawn and how to use some basic principals in choosing how to do so. Another quick example would be if I start with E4 and let's say black goes D6, which would be the beginning of the Pirc Defense or perhaps any number of other defenses, if I go bishop B5 check, a check I don't personally recommend, it could be blocked in any number of ways. We could block with the queen. That would be a terrible move, losing the queen for absolutely no reason, and subsequently losing the game. We could block with the bishop, which is pretty good because then if I go bishop takes bishop, I'm giving black the opportunity to develop their knight. Or, I could just go C6 and deflect the bishop, which is now retreating and maybe is going to get hit again with B5 and will have to retreat to B3 and so on. But the point is, this initial check, bishop to B5 can be blocked in any number of different ways. It can be blocked with the pawn, the bishop, the queen, which would be awful. Oh, and the knight, which I didn't mention before. Knight to C6. Knight to D7. So, there's any number of ways to defend this position. And, a big part of being a chess player is deciding which is the best way to defend. So, I would just recommend C6; make white retreat his bishop. Those are the most basic of the basics when it comes to attacking and defending.

But what is Sacada? Sacada is a displacement of the foot so in other words i take her place. Sacad literally means to take out. Now you take her with embrase and now we are going to go all the way accross. I know that my right leg is free, so as i leed i am gonna place my foot right next to her so we are gonna sacada that foot. Now we are gonna Sacada the side foot and finally we are gonna sacada her front foot. After this we are gonna conclude with the forward step and then we can walk. So the followers in the sacada we are just doing a great wine or a heto. We are gonna go forward while the leader displaces while we turn into a three leg then you go side here you are gonna follow your partners movement, so that he can displace your feet. Make sure that your connection stays strong and are always following your partners chest as you go around. To lead a Sacada its only that i am taking her place so i don't necessarily have to push her out with my foot. Its a misconception to do that. What we do id once i place my foot keep on leading so that we can move she can move out of my way its almost like opening the door for a sec from here then we do that each time in the take out the forward step it feels like there is going to be some contact but you are not looking for that contact. So in a way this is a way to if you work. so the lead the follower will follow the lead because the leader is just opening his chest so that will create the circular motion to keep him going around him. Wright you don't have to lead each one individually just give general lead and you know through practice that's what the step to you know that is in this case front side and back. So you are sacada in the training class.

First, there's a couple of ways to pull out the side kick. First, I'm going to demonstrate the basic side kick. I'm going to stay in a fighting stance. I'm going to first bring my knees up, pivot, and snap out with my bottom of my foot while twisting your hip, like this, and bringing it back. One more time. Knees up. And do the side kick. Now I have my partner with me. He's holding the shield target this time. And make sure it's about body level. And I'm going to stand in a fighting stance. Now there's a couple of ways to pull out the side kick. There's a regular side kick and also there's a skipping side kick or a hop side kick. So what we're going to do is practice our regular side kick. I'm going to bring my knees up slowly, and boom, try to kick the center of the target. And you can drop it down or bring it back. So I'm going to show a fast demonstration. One more time. Now the second side kick we can do is a hop step or skipping side kick. A skipping side kick, what you need to do is bring your back leg and skip forward while you raise your front leg up and throw a side kick. This way. So again, I'd like to show you on this side. My partner's holding it in the body section. Skip. This way. One more time. And that's how we do a side kick.

How to Understand Pawn Structure | Chess

I'm with Chess NYC, and I'm going to talk to you today about pawn structures. While there are multiple pawn structures that are very important to know, there are five basics that are "need-to-know". So, let's start off with the pawn chain. To begin, we have what's called a pawn chain: we have a diagonal set of pawns; each pawn in this pawn chain is protecting one another. This is extremely important in terms of creating an attack. You always want to have your pawn chain directed towards the king. If the king is castled over on this side of the board, this is where you want your pawn structure going, instead of having your pawn chain running off the side of the board. Not so happy. Additionally, the top pawn is the strongest pawn in the pawn chain, the bottom is the weakest. If you're playing on black, you want to attack the bottom of the pawn chain. The idea behind the pawn chain is that it controls a lot of space and it's going toward the king, creating an attack. Another important pawn structure that is a need-to-know is called "double pawns". Double pawns have both good and bad elements to them. One element that is very good about double pawns is they control a lot of space. Double pawns can control up to five squares - one, two, three, four, five. In chess, we want to control space. Double pawns can control a lot of space. However, there is a weakness to double pawns. This pawn right back here is not protected by any other pawns, therefore this pawn is considered weak. Additionally, this pawn is also considered "stuck in traffic," meaning it can't move unless the pawn in front of it moves first. Another important pawn structure that we need to know is called the "isolated pawn", or "lonely pawn". This is not a favorable pawn structure. This pawn is sitting all by itself. When we have a pawn that's like this sometimes we have to have a queen or another, bigger piece defending and babysitting this pawn. I don't want my queen babysitting an isolated pawn. I want my pieces going ahead and making checkmate, and not defending an isolated pawn. This pawn is considered a weakness, and it is easy for black to attack. An even more unfavorable pawn position is "double isolated pawns". Additionally, these two pawns are extremely weak. Neither one of them can protect one another. This pawn is also considered stuck in traffic. It cannot move forward unless the pawn in front of it moves forward, and these are relatively hard to defend. A bishop cannot defend both of these pawns at the same time. A knight can also not defend both of these pawns at the same time. It's also hard, unless a rook is in between them, to defend them at the same time. We have to use a queen or a king to defend the two pawns at the same time. However, the last pawn structure I want to talk about is called a "passed pawn". Passed pawn is one of the most important pawn structures that we need to know, because this pawn is on its way to becoming a queen. A passed pawn is a pawn that has passed all of your enemy's pawns and is on its way to becoming a queen - by getting to the end of the board - or any other piece that you choose. When you have passed pawn, it is very important to sit and babysit this pawn. So therefore you can get it to the end of the board and it can become a queen or any other piece that you choose. And that is all I have to tell you about important pawn structures.

How to Start a Lemonade Stand

03:32
Watch more Money Advice for Kids videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/17500-How-to-Start-a-Lemonade-Stand It’s hot out. You like money. How about starting a lemonade stand! Step 1: Make a business plan Before you make your lemonade, make a business plan. Will you have to spend any money on supplies? If you’re going to spend $5 of your own money on ingredients, for example, you’ll need to make more than $5 to make a profit, or the money you get to keep. Now you can decide how much you want to charge per cup to make sure you earn that. Tip Remember, if you’re setting up shop with other people, you’ll have to split the money you make with them! Step 2: Pick a perfect day, time, and location Pick the perfect day, time, and location for your lemonade stand. Think about where and when the largest number of thirsty people would walk by your stand. Think hot days at playgrounds and fairs, or during little league games. Of course your front yard is just fine, too. Step 3: Make your lemonade sign Make your lemonade sign using some cardboard or foam core and a large, bold marker. Write 'Lemonade for Sale' with the price clearly visible. You can add a drawing of lemons or a glass of lemonade if you want. The bigger and flashier your sign, the more people will notice it. Step 4: Publicize your business While 'walk in' customers are usually the bulk of lemonade stand business, you might want to let your friends and family know what you’re up to. You can either make flyers or do an email blast announcing the time, location, and date of your grand opening. Step 5: Make the lemonade Make your lemonade ahead of time. You can make it from a mix, but serving homemade lemonade will make your stand special and might help you sell more. Either way, have a grown-up cut up a lemon so you can float the slices in your pitcher. Tip For 1 gallon of homemade lemonade, ask an adult to juice 6 lemons, then mix that with 1½ cups of sugar and 2 quarts of water and ice. Step 6: Do a taste test Now comes the fun part—drink it! You’ve got to make sure it tastes good, but don’t drink too much or you’ll have to mix up some more. Step 7: Refrigerate the lemonade Pour the lemonade into a large thermos or several pitchers and refrigerate it until you’re ready to start selling. Step 8: Set up your table Set up your table. You can use a folding table or some milk crates with boards on top. On top of this set a clean tablecloth and lots of paper cups. Hang or prop up your sign. Tip Make sure everything looks clean—the cups, table, pitcher, and even you! Step 9: Have change Depending on what you’re charging, you’ll want to either have lots of quarters or single dollar bills to make it easy to make change for your customers. Keep the money safe and organized in some kind of box on the table. Tip If there are other stands in your area, try to make yours stand out. Put the words 'Gourmet' or 'Secret Recipe' on your sign. Step 10: Set up the lemonade Store extra ice and lemonade in separate containers under the table so you won’t have to run back to the kitchen, and fill a see-through serving pitcher with some ice, lemonade, and cut lemons. Tip Don’t set out cups already filled with lemonade. Flies will swarm around them and it will look gross. Step 11: Attract customers Smile and wait for customers. People like to buy from kids that smile. Did You Know? In 2003, a 6-year-old boy started a lemonade stand to raise money for breast cancer research. Today 'Max’s Lemonade Stand' is a nonprofit that’s made over $30,000.

Hula Hoop Across the Chest Roll | Hula Hooping

02:37
Watch more How to Hula Hoop videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/512743-Hula-Hoop-Across-the-Chest-Roll-Hula-Hooping For our across the chest roll we're going to start the same way as we would do our across the back roll. The hoop is in my right hand. My grip is nice and loose. I just have my first two fingers making a loop. My other fingers are just cradling the hoop. And it's keep making a nice flat plane in front of my body. So, I've got the hoop hanging. Vertical plane in my right hand. What a lot of people tend to do when they learn this trick is they learn to do a toss. Or they toss and bend this arm and bring the hoop to their chest. It's not necessarily cheating. It just looks better if we do a true roll when the hoop is making contact with your arm all the way across your chest to the other hand. So, arm is nice and straight. Level with my shoulder. Slightly in front of my shoulder and my left arm is out to the side ready to receive. So, palm is nice and loose. I'm going to bring the hoop up gently and then press my palm down as I release. I'm going to show this again. So, that's how we start the roll. Now, whenever we want to roll across our chest it's very effective to lean way back and really open up your throat and your chest to the sky. If you try to look at the hoop it looks a little congested and awkward. And it's not as pretty. So, you're going to drop your head back, lean way back and allow the hoop to roll across your chest. It's also helpful to turn your head and look towards your receiving hand. It'll look nicer. So, as the hoop approaches my shoulder I'm going to lean back. Look towards my left hand and have that hand ready, open palm up, to receive the hoop. So, let's try this all together. There we go. And that's how we do an across the chest roll.

How to Drive on the Highway | Driving Lessons

02:19
Watch more How to Drive videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500646-How-to-Drive-on-the-Highway-Driving-Lessons So, today we're going to talk about highway driving and try to give you some highway driving tips. We'll start with what is usually the most difficult part for a beginner, and that would be actually getting on the highway. The reason that's more difficult is because the cars that are already on the highway are going at a greater speed than you are merging in. This is where the use of the lane to merge becomes most important. You have to use that lane to build up your speed and try to get your speed up so that then it would be easier to blend in with the cars that are already on the highway. So, you don't want to come to the end of that merge lane and then stop. At that point it will be very difficult to get on. You have to use the merging lane to accelerate, build up your speed, and keep checking your mirror on the left and turning your head to make sure you've got a good safe distance to merge onto. Then, when that occurs you move onto the highway. Once you get on the highway my recommendation is that the best lane to usually drive in would be the middle lane. The left lane is generally used for passing. The problem with staying in the right lane is that you've got to deal with those cars getting on the highway at every single exit. So, my recommendation is stay in the middle lane. The speed is greater on the highway which means that things can happen much more quickly, so that space is so important in highway driving. You need to have space in front of the car and behind the car, to the left and right at all times. If you're going to make a lane change you're going to do so by putting your signal on and indicating the way you want to make that pass whether it be to the right or to the left. Then you're going to look and make sure it's real safe to do so. Then move your car from one lane to the other. When is a good time to get back into the lane that we came from? The answer to that is that we need to see the vehicle that we passed in our rear view mirror. When you can see that entire vehicle in the rear view mirror it is then okay to move back to that right lane. So, those are some tips that you can use if you want to have some safe, comfortable highway driving.

Watch more First Aid: When Nature Attacks videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/20385-How-to-Treat-a-Sunburn Did all that fun in the sun end with a nasty burn? Let’s get you some relief. Step 1: Cool off your skin Cool off your skin with a cool bath or cool, wet compresses. If you opt for the bath, add a half cup of baking soda or several cups of colloidal oatmeal (available at drugstores). Soak for 10 minutes. Repeat as often as needed. Step 2: Apply something soothing Apply something soothing, like aloe vera from a plant or lotion, or 1% hydrocortisone cream. Tip Do not use petroleum-based products or products with benzocaine; they’ll just lock in the heat. Step 3: Take an aspirin If you’re an adult, take an aspirin; its anti-inflammatory properties will help relieve the pain. Tip Never give aspirin to children under 16; give them acetaminophen or ibuprofen instead. Step 4: Let your skin heal Let your skin heal. If blisters form, leave them alone; if they break, use an antibiotic ointment. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do about peeling—but a moisturizing lotion can ease any itching. Step 5: Buy a good sunscreen Buy a good sunscreen and a big sunhat so you don’t get burned again. And stay out of the sun until your burn has healed! Did You Know? It’s easier to get sunburned at high altitudes because you’re less protected by the atmosphere—for every 1,000 feet you go up, your exposure to UV rays increases 4%.

How to Survive a Zombie Attack

02:18
Watch more Disaster Survival & Worst-Case Scenarios videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/400092-How-to-Survive-a-Zombie-Attack Army of zombies on the loose? Check out these simple steps to help you survive an encounter with the undead. Step 1: Know your enemy Make sure you're facing an attack from actual zombies. Look for a stiff gait caused by rigor mortis, open wounds from decomposing flesh, and a hunger for human flesh. Step 2: Cover up Cover up to prevent potential zombie bites from turning you into one of them. Wear a mask with holes only for the eyes and mouth, long sleeves, gloves, close-toe shoes, and long pants tucked into your socks. You may look like a fashion victim, but you won't be a zombie victim. Step 3: Amass weapons Find a weapon to use in case you encounter a zombie. Grab a blunt object capable of bashing in undead heads or something to pierce the zombies' skulls -- even reanimated corpses can't survive severe brain injuries. Tip Don't try to reason with zombies -- their brain functions are limited to walking, moaning, and feasting on the living. Step 4: Head indoors Find a secure place to hide. Make sure it's located as far as possible from any graveyards and stocked with canned goods, bottled water, and projectile-firing weapons. Barricade the doors and windows to ensure your survival. Step 5: Fight back Hide out long enough to overcome your fear; then, attack back! Use human-scented objects to lure the zombies to low-lying areas; once they're contained, blast their brains from afar. Continue trapping and killing until all the zombies are dead, and it's eerily quiet enough for you to hear your still-beating heart. Did You Know? A traditional zombie cocktail is made with sugar, fruit juice, and 4 kinds of rum.

I'm tied in as a climber, Chaz is clipped in here is the belayer, we've already done our safety checks, I'm ready to start, and while I'm climbing, I'm going to give you five tips for how to lead climb, and how to do so effectively and efficiently. One good tip is before you start climbing, to take some time and really try to identify the route. What I mean by that is to try to look for critical spots on the route where maybe you'll get a good rest or maybe some difficult cliffs. You'll notice another tip is that when you're clipping, you want to be doing so from a balanced position with a straight arm. Having these straight arms to make those cliffs is a great way to conserve energy. As I move up a little farther, you'll notice my arm still stays straight clipping. I'm making that clip with a straight arm, and at this point, I'm pretty comfortable, I've good footholds, and I'm on a big jump hold, so I can shake out my arms a little bit to try to get some of that lactic acid out of there. I'll do the same with my other arm. This type of move, shaking out, can really help you to recover while you're climbing. Another pointer is when to chalk up. So right now if I'm moving into a difficult sequence, I might want to chalk up before I go through it, so timing your chalk ups, when to do it, how often to do it, is something you want to consider. So, on a similar note, while timing your chalking up, to make sure you're not doing it excessively, but just kind of as needed, a good idea is to try to identify a crux of the route, which is the most difficult section, or where you expect to have the most trouble, and rather than stopping in the middle to chalk up, or maybe try to make a clip from an awkward position, try to push through that crux, identify the sequence, chalk, prepare yourself, get a good rest and shake out, and move straight through that crux Another tip would be that while I'm climbing, if I'm so scared of falling the whole time, it's going to make me over grip, which means squeezing a lot harder than I need to be, and putting a lot of weight on my arm that doesn't need to be there. I want to keep it on my feet. So a great tip for lead climbing, is to get comfortable falling. You're going to climb a whole lot better if you're not scared to fall. And handling the ball with speed is good because it makes it more difficult for the defender to steal the ball from you. So right now we'll walk through a couple of quick drills that we use on a regular basis that help us to handle the ball faster. First ting we want to do is work on a particular drill and then you want to try to go for speed in it. Right now we have one of our coaches, Jerry, who's gonna time us on these particular drills. Right now Sammy will go for 15 seconds and what'll we'll do right now is he's gonna do his first set for 15 seconds and then we'll have him do a second set to see if he can increase his speed as far ball handling. So right now, Sammy will get nice and low. He's gonna cross over and go behind his back. Every time the ball gets to his right hand, he's gonna count the rep. So I'll count for him right now. Jerry when you tell me to go, we'll go. Jerry: Ready, go! Jason: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Alright. So Sammy did eight in 15 seconds. So now he has a goal where every time he works out he has a point of emphasis in the base as far as trying to exceed his time. Now I'll try to do something a little bit more advanced with the advanced ball handlers. And remember, everything that we do I'm gonna try to do with my eyes closed and head up. Jerry'll give me 30 seconds on this. Jerry: Ready, go! Jason: One, two, three, four, five, I lose it, I come right back. Eyes closed, chin up. Six. Jerry: Stop. Jason: Alright? So I got to about six and a half. So right now we'll have Sammy finish up to see if he can do it any faster than he did his first set. So again Sammy will have his eyes closed, chin up. He'll get low. Eight is his number to beat. 15 seconds. Jerry: Ready, go! Jason: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Jerry: Stop. Jason: Alright. So you see? Now, Sammy worked on his ball handling. He was able to get ten. Those are the types of drills that you can do on a regular basis in order to be come a faster ball handler.

How to Do a Brooklyn Accent | Accent Training

02:08
Watch more How to Do an Accent videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500483-How-to-Do-a-Brooklyn-Accent-Accent-Training Learn how to do a Brooklyn accent from voice and speech coach Andrea Caban in this Howcast video. [Background Music] There are so many different types of people who live in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is an amazing place because of that. So we're going to go for a very stereotypical, general Brooklyn accent. Just to give you a flavor of it. So you put your lip corners really far forward. And it's a very urban sound. You see? In my oral posture that my lips are doing a lot of the work. It's also fun to notice that the Brooklyn accent, where your lip corner's very far forward, is also very similar to that urban London sound. That cockney sound. So Saul's daughter studied law. You'll notice that it's a very similar shape in the mouth. Let's look at some sound changes for the Brooklyn accent. So there are no r's at the ends of some words. So like, there, player, flatter become theah, playah, flattah. And the ah sound in thought, dog, and law become a diphthong. So they become a two element sound. For thought, dog, law. Sometimes that th sound, thin, thick, this, that become very dentalized. So it's thin, thick, this, that. So you hear those hard, flat sounds. The back of the teeth. Thin. Thick. This. That. You start to hear the musicality of the accent. T's are very dentalized. So they're very pushed up against the teeth. So Tony takes his time becomes Tony takes his time. Do you hear the difference there? Tony takes his time, and Tony takes his time. The st sound in stretch becomes stretch. I love that one. So what's the musicality of this general Brooklyn accent? Well it's a very urban sound, like we'd said. It's got a lot of power to it. You use emphasis with volume, and less with pitch variety. But don't take my word for. Go listen to some native Brooklyn speakers, and let the accent reveal itself to you.

We're going to teach you a couple of them. The first one we're going to talk about is the bachata heel break. So we're going to put out our heels, on the fours and the eights. Five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. The idea behind the heel is to make sure that your heel is nice and sharp on that break, just as if you were doing a tap. Daniela: And ladies, make sure when you do your heel tap forward, you have your legs closed. We don't want to do one, two, three, heel, okay? It's right in front of you. Edwin: Now for the next break, this one is a tap in the back. We're going to use the toe to either tap across or behind. We're going to show you different ways, so make sure you that you explore however you feel more comfortable. Five, six, seven and one, two, three, tap, five, six, seven, tap. One, two, three, tap, five, six, seven, tap. One, two, three, tap. Five, six, seven, tap. That's going to be the tap behind. Remember you can put it right behind you or you can send it across, depending on how you feel. Make sure you do it with confidence and smooth. The next break is going to be the scoop. The scoop is going to be picking up your foot. Gentlemen, what we're going to do is just lift it up, like this. Daniela: And ladies, we're going to scoop up, so as soon as your toe hits the floor that's when you bring it up. Make sure you don't kick it out. Edwin: Let's try it. Five, six, seven, eight and one, two, three, up, five, six, seven, up. One, two, three, up. Five, six, seven, up and one, two, three, up. Five, six, seven, up. Now for those of you who are interested in getting better as performers, make sure that you always point your feet down. If you keep your feet like this, of course it's an option, but make sure that if you want to develop good habits, always point your feet down. Now we're going to do the last one, which is the shuffle behind. This one is a little bit more complicated, so I want you to pay attention slowly. Five, six, seven, eight and one, two, three shuffle, five, six, seven, shuffle one, two, three, shuffle five, six, seven and shuffle. So what's happening here is we're going to take three steps one, two and three. On the fourth step we're going to quickly alternate our feet, right/left, and then continue to the right for five, six, seven. And do the same thing on the other side, left/right. Let's try it a little bit faster. Five, six, seven, eight and one, two, three shuffle. Five, six, seven, one, two, three shuffle, five, six, seven shuffle one. Now let's demonstrate all these breaks with music, so here we have the heel, then we have the tap behind and remember, you can cross it behind or send it straight back, depending on your choice. The next one is the scoop and gentlemen, of course you can scoop as well, gentlemen. But for us it's more natural to just bring the knee up. And the last one is the shuffle behind. Shuffle, one and those are your bachata breaks.

How to Do a Dancer's Pose | Yoga

Watch more How to Do Yoga videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501352-How-to-Do-a-Dancers-Pose-Yoga On your way to Dancer's Pose, on this journey, you will have opened your thighs. You will have done a back bend, like done your Ross in a bow. You have done a standing, balancing posture like Tree Pose, and then, finally, you're ready to put all of those things together, into this pose, into Dancer's Pose. What you want to do, is come onto your right foot, point the left toes, and just feel the weight shift over onto that side. With your thumb up, you're going to reach behind. With your thumb down, you're going to torque the shoulder, and internally rotate. You want to keep the shoulder internally rotate. You want to keep the shoulder externally rotated. Point the toe. Grab for the big toe side, and then resqueeze your knees back together. What that's going to do is get you back to center, and also give you the information of where your mid-line is, which will help you balance. From there, all fingers, even my thumb, are wrapping around the foot. This finger is going to reach forward, and it's like I'm pressing down into like a counter top, but pointing to my horizon line. The gaze is directly over this middle finger, nice and soft, and as I start to pitch forward, and hinge at the hips, both hips stay pointing down towards the ground, so this hip isn't open off to the side. They stay pointed towards the ground. I keep reaching towards my horizon line, pointing through the toes, reaching, and I kick back, and I reach. And I kick back, and I reach. I kick back, and I reach. The more you go for it, the more you actually reach, reach, reach. It allows you to kick, to come out. I'm squeezing my knees back together, back together, back together, and then, I release the foot down, to come out of that balance. Just to swing a leg out, it's just too much for the body to try to balance. So, think about bringing those knees in closer together, and then finally releasing yourself to the floor. That is Dancer's Pose.

Here's a punch. Slow. Outside the line of fire I'm going to come by doing this. I'm just going to shift my body a little bit towards his live side. Since my hands are down below, the easiest way for the punch is just to bring the hand straight up. Again. Past my face. It's important to know the form of the lower part of my forearm and not the higher part of my forearm. If I do, I'm much weaker. The lower part carries a lot more strength. Because I'm moving to the live side of my opponent, it is crucial that I'm going to strike him at the same time. It's not a block and a strike. I need to strike him immediately. To do so, I don't even rotate my shoulder because that rotation will consume time. I'm in the live side. I'll grab him, bring him into a knee to the groin and make separation. One more time the motion. Thank you. Face forward. Take your basic stance. Bring it to a low basic stance. With the foot we're going one back. One back. With the hand, one. I need 90 degree and 90 degree. Back. One head low. Back. One and two. With the punch. One, back. One, back. And one and right away the hand comes to your face. Grab him, knee, we make separation. Again. One, two. Again. One, two. All in one. And one. Again, one. Please, Eric punch David. Right through, please, not fast. Again. Try to pay attention to 90. Again. Change places, please. Punch him, David. Again. Again. Thank you very much.

Well, they're wrong. If you know what motivates your cat, you can train it. Now, training with Fria today is going to be a little difficult because she's pretty snooty, but I'm just going to see if she has a reaction to her favorite treat bag. That can be a great place to start for coming when called. Many cats know the sound of their treat bag and get excited right off the bat when they hear it. So, let's just see if she wakes up. Oh, suddenly we're interested. Well, it's not an ideal time to practice coming when called. It is a good time to reinforce the association that hearing the treat bag means good things. Now, many cat owners already know about the treat bag effect, but what they don't know is that it's really easy to capitalize on it to teach your cat to come when called. The way to do that is to pair your cat's name with a treat. The great news is since your cat knows the sound of a treat bag or a treat canister, you can build on an already strong association. So, in this case, you might say your cat's name and then give them a treat. So, I'll go like this. Fria and then I crinkle the bag which means a treat is coming and then I give her one. Now first, when you're starting this you want to start right by your cat because they don't really know what you're trying to do. Start at a place where cat and you are most likely to be successful. So, rinse and repeat. Fria, crinkle, crinkle and then give a treat. Now, when you're ready to start working on coming when called you can begin working from a distance. I'm not going to do this with Fria today because she might walk right off the table if she happened to get up, but what you would do is the same type of behavior. Say the cat's name, crinkle the bag and as soon as they come over give a treat. Eventually, the name that you give your cat for this exercise will become as powerful as the treat bag and you'll see that when you give the sound of your cat's name that your cat comes running for that treat. Over time you can stop using food and use scratches or other positive attention that your cat enjoys as a reinforcer. Just remember that it's not normal for cats to come when called in the wild, so it's definitely a behavior that's worth paying for. That's how you teach your cat to come when called.

And people want to talk about the various positions you can have, you can choose when you play the game of soccer. And we're basically have the goal keeper. We have the defenders, we have the midfielders and we have the strikers. The goal keeper of course is the first responsibility is to assure that the strikers won't get the ball behind the goal line and actually score. On the second thought the goal keeper would be the first player to initiate the game, to start the game from the back of the defense. The next line is the line of defenders. Again, even more, the responsibility of the defenders would be to mark up the strikers, close gap some defense and prevent the opposition from goal scoring. The next line would be the midfielders. The midfielders are the once who organize the game. They have defense responsibilities but also offense responsibilities. And they organize the game, they make sure that they close the gap in defense, turn around quickly, open the game to the front to the strikers, get the strikers in goal scoring positions and move up themselves or maybe even choose to finish themselves and try to score. The last one, the most front on the field would be the strikers or the forwards. Of course the idea is to get the ball as quickly as possible into the goal, into the net of the opposition. As a defender you have the whole game in front of you. You have more time usually to open the game. You have more time when you have possession of the ball. You want to open it mindfully to the side not to the center. The midfielders are always moving, always trying to open up, giving opportunities, passing options as well to strikers and defenders. The strikers on the other hand usually have the defender in the back where there's a different kind of play. The want to drop the ball maybe to the midfielder to open up the game on the side but then quickly move into goal scoring position themselves and finish. That's the basic idea of soccer positions and I think it's a good way to start.

Arachnophobia in a box. This is the animal that conjures up the willies in most people, most people period, but anyone who has an innate fear of spiders. Wow, is this the one that gives them nightmares. The Goliath bird-eating tarantula is the largest species in the world. There are many types of Goliath bird-eaters. What I have here is one from South America. They get about 10, 11 inches across. We always describe it as "as big a dinner plate." That's a formidable animal. The fangs are gigantic on this creature, and the venom that it can deliver is toxic, very, very bad venom. And it delivers a lot. Like all tarantulas, not a deadly venom, but a venom that's powerful. And there's a lot of it. It's going to be extremely painful, and you are not going to be happy if this tarantula gets a hold of you and bites you. So we're going to leave him in the box for today. But the thing we're most concerned about with this tarantula, and all the species from North and South America, is the way they defend themselves. They may rear up and show you their fangs and say, "Check this out." They may confront you and stand up on their hind legs almost and say, "Hey. Back up." But if they're really in danger, they actually turn around and use the other side of their body as a defense mechanism. And that would be this large round piece here, which of course is the abdomen on the tarantula. The abdomen is covered with hairs, the hardest word to say today, the urtocating hairs, which are on the back of a tarantula, which to me are just the irritating hairs. They'll take their hind legs and they'll flick those hairs. They'll chop them off the back. You can see this tarantula actually has a little bit of a bald spot on its abdomen, because it's so used to flicking those hairs whenever danger come around it. If those hairs get airborne, if you looked under a microscope, they have like little arrow tips on them. They stick into everything that they encounter. That's your eye, your skin, your nasal passages, your mouth. It irritates, and it's almost like having fiber glass in your face. Very, very irritating item. In the old day, they had a gag gift called itching powder in which they would mix talcum powder with those hairs from these types of tarantulas and deliver an irritating gag gift called itching powder. So we want to be very careful we don't disturb the animal too much. If you keep one of these, please be an advanced keeper. They can be picked up, but they are immediately going to flick those hairs. The hairs are going to come off its body naturally. They're going to get into your skin. They're going to get all over everything. Sometimes you look in the cage, it almost looks like it's hairy because the tarantula's kicked off so many hairs inside of his enclosure. It's a great animal to look at in a terrarium, or very heavily planted vivarium would be my way to do this. But it's not one you want to handle a lot or mess with at all. The Goliath bird-eater. Do they eat birds? There's another myth about the animal. I think when they found this animal it was on top of a bird carcass. But contrary to popular belief, their favorite food is not birds. They will eat small mammals for sure, but large insects make up the majority of its prey and its food. So the Goliath bird eater is an advanced keeper. You need a good sized cage for this animal, hiding spots, and a lot of plastic gloves to keep a Goliath bird eater. Good luck with that one.

How to Survive If You’re Lost in the Woods

03:09
Watch more Disaster Survival & Worst-Case Scenarios videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/23667-How-to-Survive-If-Youre-Lost-in-the-Woods Getting out of the wilderness alive is a matter of knowing what to do--and what not to do. Step 1: Stay where you are As soon as you realize you are lost, stay where you are. It’s much more difficult for rescuers to find you if you’re on the move. Step 2: Remain together If you’re with others, remain together. Step 3: Follow the acronym STOP Follow the acronym STOP: SIT down to collect your thoughts; THINK before you do anything or walk anywhere; OBSERVE what’s around you, and listen carefully for noises that indicate people or roads nearby; PREPARE for a long wait by gathering whatever items will keep you safe and comfortable, like wood and kindling if you have a way to start a fire. Tip If you can start a campfire, start three of them in a straight line or triangle. The universal distress signals are three gunshots, three blasts of a whistle, three fires, or three flashes of a mirror or reflective object. Step 4: Drink up If you have water with you, drink it whenever you feel thirsty. You may be tempted to make it last as long as possible, but it will do you more good in your body now. Step 5: Find a water source Find a clean water source in case your ordeal extends more than a day. If you’re at a high altitude, the running water in a stream is usually okay to drink--but snow is not, unless you melt it first, because it will make you too cold. Look for places that rainwater gathers, like in rock crevices. Pay attention to birds; they like to circle water. Tip Breathing through your nose will help you stay hydrated longer. Step 6: Don’t eat anything Don’t eat any wild plants, berries, mushrooms, and so on. You’re better off hungry than poisoned. Step 7: Seek shelter Look around for shelter, but don’t wander too far searching for the perfect spot. Get out of the sun—sitting under a tree or rock overhang will do just fine—but don’t hide from people looking for you! Step 8: Build a bed Use the time that you’re waiting for rescuers to gather braches or pine needles to sleep on when the temperature drops; you’ll stay warmer than if you were on the cold ground. And gather whatever is around — leaves, more branches — to place on top of you to further insulate you from the cold. Tip Curl up in the fetal position to conserve heat. If you’re with a group, huddle together. Step 9: Conserve your energy Conserve your energy. Don’t put so much energy into building a shelter or making an SOS sign out of rocks that you dehydrate yourself more quickly. Step 10: Make noise Make noise. It will help rescuers zero in on you and scare away animals. Did You Know? In 1998, a lost fourteen-year-old snowboarder survived for six days in the San Gabriel Mountains before being found by rescuers.

Male: Vocara means to spill, so we're going to get our partners to spill their weight on us. Generally you can do this in a big step, but we recommend that it's done in a small amount. So let's start with the side step, normally we step in the side step like so, but for the vocara we're going to step away from our partners so that they can spill their weight on us like so. A small step, if you take a little bigger step it's too much for the ladies, their back is going to kill them, we don't want that, it kills the chemistry. So just a sleight step back, to get that initiation, as you get that you're going to give a circular feeling to cross as you step. The lead for the leader is side, around and goes, think of stirring something, like stirring a soup for instance, wha, pa, OK? Female: So you really, really want to pretend like you're drawing a figure on the floor with your leg. And that will be portrayed through your upper body, so the purpose is to bring my left leg around into a cross off axis. For followers make sure that you're embrace is really intact. And what you want to do is you don't want to collapse your back in the embrace, keeping that technique of spine straight, it's like doing a plank pose in yoga, you're going to slightly do a small push up, and the flexion will happen in your ankles, and as he takes you forward you let that leg loose from the hip joint. So as he takes me to the side I'm already slightly off axis and he brings my leg around. It's really important that you keep your leg loose from the hip joint, so then you can create a nice circular move. Male: Yes. Leaders make sure that you do not do this with the arm again, you move the torso as a whole piece. Pa, wha, boom. Not pa, wha. Let's try it. [pause] Notice that I'm arranging my footwork again. From here I make sure that she gets back in her place, and then we continue. Female: So ladies, help your partner and bring your body back to axis. Don't stay expecting him to hold onto you. So as he steps closer to your axis bring your whole spine upright. Male: Adjusting your feet is good in tango, you need to be comfortable, always think comfortable. It's the best way to gain experience and confidence. Tip Don't be bashful about re-auditioning for a show that turned you down; people are sometimes hired the second or even third time around. Step 2: Bring a headshot Bring a professional headshot that looks like you in daily life, as opposed to a glammed-up version. Directors and producers don't like it when actors look nothing like their photo. Step 3: Don't go in costume Wear clothes that suggest you have an understanding of the show so the director can envision you in the part. But don't show up in full costume. Tip If it's exclusively a dance audition, just wear your dance clothes. Step 4: Pick the right song If you're auditioning for a musical, pick audition songs that reflect the period or genre of the show – not the show itself. You can prepare a few from the actual show, but only sing them if you're asked to. Sing just 32 bars of a song unless otherwise specified. Tip Have your sheet music organized for the pianist: Mark where the music should start and end, and put it in the right key. Step 5: Rehearse your scene If you're auditioning for a drama, rehearse the "sides" – a few pages from the script that you are provided with in advance of the audition. Bring the pages to the auditioning venue; it's common to hold them while you perform. Step 6: Jump right in At the audition, greet the people judging you and then begin your performance; don't ask them for direction. If you make a mistake, keep going, or ask if you may start again. No one is looking for or expecting perfection. Step 7: Go with the flow If the director asks you to try something different, do it without argument, no matter how terrified or ill-equipped you feel. They are checking to see how well you take direction and how easily you go with the flow. Step 8: Act confident Exude confidence, or at least fake it. After all, you're an actor! Did You Know? Actor Ben Vereen was so impressive at his audition for the play Pippin that the director changed the age of a character to give him the part.

Check out the official app http://apple.co/1j9RYlp Watch more How to Play the Violin videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501260-How-to-Do-Vibrato-Violin-Lessons So now I'm going to talk about vibrato. First you need to set up your left hand position the right way. Now we spoke about how to set up your left hand in the first position but now we need to talk about the left hand positioning in the third position because that's where I like to start learning vibrato. Your hand in third position is rested at the shoulder of the instrument. I like also doing the second finger on the A string to start because it's the most centered finger, the strongest finger. My finger is on the tip of the fat of the finger, there's a nice platform here and that's how you start. Then to vibrate what I usually do is, I put a little arrow on the finger going this way; that's the direction the finger has to go in. Back and up. So back and forth, back and forth. And as you can see the knuckle is going down and then it's going up. Going down and going up. So an exercise you can do is, that's an E on the A string, third position and then collapse it, back, back. Then you can do a slur. That's a two note slur. We can do four notes. Or you can do six. Then eight. And until you reach normal vibrato speed. You need to do that kind of vibrato for each one of your fingers. When you vibrate also another issue that you have to think about is your arm position. Now we spoke about correct arm position is you're flat as a pancake here, everything is straight, nothing's sticking out. When you vibrate you do need your wrist; the most popular vibrato is wrist vibrato. So then you would do, this does come out when you flatten the finger a little bit. So the wrist is moving back and forth when you're doing that finger-wrist vibrato. You need to do that with all of the fingers. The only exception is the pinky. The pinky fourth finger does not use as much wrist just because of the physicalness of the actual finger. You're still doing the same motion but it's just a little bit smaller. It's mainly the finger vibrato with just a little bit of wrist. That's how you would start to learn vibrato. Start slow. That's the vibrato.
