Fred Gelli on designing an Olympic identity that connects anyone and everyone

33:33
Strategic consultancy firm Tátil Design created the Rio 2016 Olympic identity with the hearts of the people of Brazil in mind. Its founder Brazilian graphic designer Fred Gelli spent the last 25 years studying biomimicry, imitating nature’s solutions to solve human problems. Gelli and his team drew inspiration from nature’s solutions to define the design principles that inform their award-winning work. For Design Indaba 2016, Gelli detailed the various design principles that inform the firm’s creations. From the simplicity of Coca-Cola’s Olympic identity to the firm’s own identity. “We wanted to create something without any kind of photoshop,” says Gelli as he reveals a stencil of the Tátil Design logo. Half transparent and half mirror, the stencil allows the user to create the background of the logo using their everyday surroundings. Staying true to Tátil’s human-centred approach to design, Gelli created a multisensory experience for the 2016 Olympic identity. The 3D design reflects local culture in a way that is universally understood while it also stays true to the local landscape. “The target audience was the entire world,” said Gelli. “It will be seen on a mobile screen in Manhattan and on a piece of paper in a remote town in Brazil. It was a huge challenge. You try to use the values that underpin the Olympics, like union and togetherness, something bigger than sport, to create something that will inspire people.”

Are the Olympics A Model for Creating Geniuses? | Idea Channel | PBS Digital Studios

06:10
Everyone is obsessed with the Olympics right now, watching these geniuses push the boundaries of their field. Wait, did we say GENIUSES? Yes! We normally associate the word "genius" with intellectual accomplishments, but athletes are geniuses at pushing their bodies to new heights, making the impossibly difficult seem easy and effortless. While it might not seem like it, genius of any kind requires financial and cultural support. In a world where athletes are developed and celebrated, more so than scientists or artists, it makes sense that we turn to the Olympics as a model for fostering genius. The Olympic Logo History

04:56
Modern Olympics After the initial success, the Olympics struggled. The celebrations in Paris (1900) and St. Louis (1904) were overshadowed by the World's Fair exhibitions in which they were included. The 1906 Intercalated Games (so-called because they were the second games held within the IIIrd Olympiad) were held in Athens, as the first of an alternating series of Athens-held Olympics. Although originally the IOC recognised and supported these games, they are currently not recognised by the IOC as Olympic Games, which has given rise to the explanation that they were intended to mark the 10th anniversary of the modern Olympics. The 1906 Games again attracted a broad international field of participants—in 1904, 80% had been American—and great public interest, thereby marking the beginning of a rise in popularity and size of the Games. From the 241 participants from 14 nations in 1896, the Games grew to nearly 11,100 competitors from 202 countries at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The number of competitors at the Winter Olympics is much smaller than at the Summer Games; at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin Italy, 2,633 athletes from 80 countries competed in 84 events. The Olympic Games are one of the world's largest media events. In Sydney in 2000, there were over 16,000 broadcasters and journalists, and an estimated 3.8 billion viewers watched the games on television sourse : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Games

History of Olympic Host Cities (As of 2017)

08:41
The Olympic Games is one event held every 2 years that brings the world together for a large number of sports. The Olympic flag has its own meaning itself. Pierre de Coubertin, credited as bringing the Olympics back to modern day, created the flag after the 1912 games in Stockholm, the first games to contain athletes from the five inhabited continents (depending on where you live). Coubertin explained that each ring represents the 5 inhabited continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. The flag contained the 6 colors of: white, red, black, blue, yellow, and green, as those colors appeared on all national flags at the time. Pierre de Coubertin never said which rings represent which continent. Olympic Games From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article is about the modern games in general. For the ongoing games in Rio, see 2016 Summer Olympics. The Olympic Games are considered the world's foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating.[3] The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the Summer and Winter Games alternating by occurring every four years but two years apart. Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894. The IOC is the governing body of the Olympic Movement, with the Olympic Charter defining its structure and authority. The evolution of the Olympic Movement during the 20th and 21st centuries has resulted in several changes to the Olympic Games. Some of these adjustments include the creation of the Winter Olympic Games for ice and winter sports, the Paralympic Games for athletes with a disability, and the Youth Olympic Games for teenage athletes. The IOC has had to adapt to a variety of economic, political, and technological advancements. As a result, the Olympics has shifted away from pure amateurism, as envisioned by Coubertin, to allowing participation of professional athletes. The growing importance of mass media created the issue of corporate sponsorship and commercialization of the Games. World wars led to the cancellation of the 1916, 1940, and 1944 Games. Large boycotts during the Cold War limited participation in the 1980 and 1984 Games. The Olympic Movement consists of international sports federations (IFs), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and organizing committees for each specific Olympic Games. As the decision-making body, the IOC is responsible for choosing the host city for each Games, and organizes and funds the Games according to the Olympic Charter. The IOC also determines the Olympic program, consisting of the sports to be contested at the Games. There are several Olympic rituals and symbols, such as the Olympic flag and torch, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. Over 13,000 athletes compete at the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in 33 different sports and nearly 400 events. The first, second, and third-place finishers in each event receive Olympic medals: gold, silver, and bronze, respectively. The Games have grown so much that nearly every nation is now represented. This growth has created numerous challenges and controversies, including boycotts, doping, bribery, and a terrorist attack in 1972. Every two years the Olympics and its media exposure provide unknown athletes with the chance to attain national and sometimes international fame. The Games also constitute an opportunity for the host city and country to showcase themselves to the world.

The idea of using rings intertwined with one another came from the Union des Sociétés Françaises de Sports Athlétiques (USFSA), which had two interlaced rings as their symbol and which Pierre de Coubertin was for a time the head of. It was founded by two French sports associations that merged, hence the two interlinked rings. Top 10 Winter Olympics Logos of All Time

02:24
We reviewed logos from the 22 Winter Olympic Games and picked the top 10 Winter Olympics logos of all time! If you want to see all 22, head over to our blog at https://logojoy.com/blog/olympics. Let the countdown begin: Number 10 - the 1924 Winter Games - the first-ever Winter Olympics, which were held in Chamonix, France. The inaugural branding was in a poster format inspired by 1920s French art trends. Number 9 - the 1960 Winter Games in Squaw Valley, California. The logo was crisp, clean, and popped with overlapping colorful triangles, which created both an image of a star or a snowflake. Number 8 - the 1976 Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria. This logo is a combination of the city's coat of arms, with the design bridging Innsbruck to the five Olympic rings, symbolizing the ties of friendship between the athletes. Number 7 - the 1952 Winter Games in Oslo, Norway. The winner of a public competition, this logo contains the Olympic rings, layered on top of a graphic of Oslo's new Town Hall. Number 6 - the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary, Alberta. Inspired by the Canadian winter and patriotism, this logo includes a stylized snowflake that also resembles the Canadian Maple Leaf. Number 5 - the 1936 Winter Games in Bavaria, Germany. This was one of the first Olympics where the brand is designed in a true logo format. The design has the Olympic rings in the middle of a German ski hill, with a track leading to the mountains. Number 4 - the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy. The logo portrays a mountain among crystals of ice, where the white snow meets the blue sky. The crystals represent a web of spirit among the athletes as they compete in the Olympics. Number 3 - the 1968 Winter Games in Grenoble, France. The design includes three red roses, which is the symbol of Grenoble, connected to the Games by a snowflake and the Olympic rings, all in the same shade of teal. Number 2 - the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan. Based around a colourful flower, each petal represents an athlete practicing a different winter sport. The colours tie in nicely as their vibrant hues match the shades of the Olympic rings below. Number 1 - the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Okay, maybe we’re a little excited for the upcoming Winter Games, so we decided to give it the top spot. The logo for the Games represents the harmony between heaven, earth, and man. The Olympics, FIFA, and why we love sports: Crash Course Games #17

12:02
Today, John Green is going to be your substitute teacher as we dive into the world of sports! Now “sports” is a pretty broad genre of game, we probably couldn’t even cover them in an entire series, but today we’re going to do our best to look at the origins of sports as they trace their histories back the Olympics (and even a little earlier), and look at how the rise of national pride and gaming communities has led us to the cultural behemoth of the FIFA World Cup. It’s a lot to cover, but we’re do our best to answer the big question for you non-sports-loving-gamers out there along the way: why do we love sports anyway? Olympic SEX Games

02:06
Some funny sex activities that could be olympic sports. The modern Olympic Games (French: Jeux olympiques[1]) are the leading international sporting event featuring summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are considered to be the world's foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating.[2] The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the Summer and Winter Games alternating by occurring every four years but two years apart.

2016 Rio Olympics Logo = ZION

00:55
Once again, after 2008 Beijing's logo and 2012 London's logo coding Zion, the 2016 Rio's Logo of the Olympic Games also codes Zion. Zion is the symbolic capital of the New Word Order. The New World Order is the Reign of the Antichrist, Satan in flesh. Each new olympics is one more step to the NWO, because the Olympics symbolizes all the characteristics of the NWO: No religion, No race, Humanity as One. Humanism is the modern version of Satanism

How ski warfare created biathlon

03:39
It all started as a military exercise in Norway. We interviewed a sports expert about the truth behind "mind over matter": http://bit.ly/2t8PzCc Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Biathlon combines competitive Nordic skiing with rifle shooting. Although biathlon is extremely popular in Europe, most Americans are unfamiliar with the sport. For many of them, the sport seems like an odd combination of physical effort and mental skill, but there’s a fascinating explanation for how biathlon came to be. The sport of biathlon evolved over a long period of time and for much of that history it was primarily a military exercise to train soldiers for winter warfare. It all started in Norway, where a military officer decided to combine his love of skiing with his expertise in training tactics. Soon, the combination spread across Europe and national militaries started applying and developing his techniques to train their own winter warfare battalions. In both World Wars, ski warfare played a key role in several battles—most notably during the “Winter War” between Finland and Russia in 1940. During that skirmish, Finnish troops used their ski prowess to elude and attack the Russian enemy. Although the Finns lost the battle, they were able to inflict major losses against the much larger foreign army. Once WWII ended, soldiers returned home and began popularizing the sport of skiing around the world. Instead of using their ski skills for warfare, they turned to recreational endeavors like ski racing, skill competitions, and biathlon. During the next decade, the ski industry boomed. In 1960, biathlon was introduced as an official Olympic sport and it has continued to grow in popularity ever since. Although much has changed about the sport, modern biathlon still retains the unmistakable traces of its military origins. To learn what those are, make sure to watch the video above. ANCIENT OLYMPIA GREECE - TOUR of the FIRST OLYMPIC GAMES - 2018

06:30
Welcome to ancient Olympia Greece! This is where the first Olympic Games were practiced in 776 BC. We tour the site of the ancient games, including the gym, the stadium, and temple of Zeus. Unlike the modern games, the ancient Olympics were practice by free-born Greek men. The games were practiced here in Olympia rather than a different city each year.
