The Steam Engine ~ James Watt

14:29
A steam engine is a heat engine that performs mechanical work using steam as its working fluid. Using boiling water to produce mechanical motion goes back over 2000 years, but early devices were not practical. The Spanish inventor Jerónimo de Ayanz y Beaumont patented in 1606 the first steam engine. In 1698 Thomas Savery patented a steam pump that used steam in direct contact with the water being pumped. Savery's steam pump used condensing steam to create a vacuum and draw water into a chamber, and then applied pressurized steam to further pump the water. Thomas Newcomen's atmospheric engine was the first commercial true steam engine using a piston, and was used in 1712 for pumping in a mine. James Watt,(30 January 1736 (19 January 1736 OS) – 25 August 1819) was a Scottish inventor and mechanical engineer whose improvements to the Newcomen steam engine were fundamental to the changes brought by the Industrial Revolution in both his native Great Britain and the rest of the world.

Steam Engine History

09:16
A steam engine is a heat engine that performs mechanical work using steam as its working fluid. Since the late 1700s steam engines have become a major source of mechanical power. The first applications were removing water from mines. In 1781 James Watt patented a steam engine that produced continuous rotative motion. The engines could be sited anywhere that water and coal or wood fuel could be obtained. By 1883, engines that could provide 10,000 hp had become feasible. Steam engines could also be applied to vehicles such as traction engines and the railway locomotives which are commonly just called steam engines outside America. The stationary steam engine was a key component of the Industrial Revolution, allowing factories to locate where water power was unavailable. Today steam turbines generate about 90% of the electric power in the United States using a variety of heat sources. Steam engines are external combustion engines, where the working fluid is separate from the combustion products. Non-combustion heat sources such as solar power, nuclear power or geothermal energy may be used. The ideal thermodynamic cycle used to analyze this process is called the Rankine cycle. In the cycle, water is heated into steam in a boiler until it reaches a high pressure. When expanded through pistons or turbines, mechanical work is done. The reduced-pressure steam is then condensed and pumped back into the boiler. In general usage, the term steam engine can refer to either the integrated steam plants (including boilers etc.) such as railway steam locomotives and portable engines, or may refer to the piston or turbine machinery alone, as in the beam engine and stationary steam engine. Specialized devices such as steam hammers and steam pile drivers are dependent on steam supplied from a separate boiler. James Watt (Steam Engine) - Greatest Inventors of All Time

00:55
James Watt may have been the single most responsible person in bringing about the Industrial Revolution. He made the steam engine dramatically more efficient by introducing a separate condenser that avoided wasting energy, which radically improved the machine’s power output and transformed it into the workhorse of factory production. In 1781, after much financial hardship and struggle, Watt patented a steam engine that produced continuous rotative motion. In a flash, new classes of industry were economically viable, setting off a rapid period of immense economic and social change across world. Watt also developed the concept of horsepower, and invented the document copier, patenting the device in 1780. The principle on which the machine is based remained in use until the arrival of modern photocopiers and the watt unit of power is named after him.

Blists Hill, Ironbridge, Trevithick first steam loco

01:03
At Blists Hill victorian village, Ironbridge, there is a working replica of the first operational steam loco designed by Richard Trevithick in 1804, predating Stephensons 'Rocket' by some 25 yrs. Sadly it was very heavy and not reliable enough for its initial backers to continue with. Trevithick then continued to work on steam engines for the mines.

How the Steam Engine Changed the World? K&B Series - Inventions That Changed the World

07:39
In the previous video, we have discussed the wheel which is considered an invention that changed the world. The wheel and rotary motion give rise to another civilization changing invention possible called The Steam Engine. The steam engine propelled the world into a new age of transportation. Popular legends have that 18th-century inventor James Watt discovered the power of steam when he observed the lifting lid of a kettle of boiling water. But the truth is that man had been aware of the power of steam for countless centuries long before Watt ever sat down for his first cup of tea as early as 100 A.D. ancient writings told of a rotating steam turbine wheel created in 1st century Roman Egypt by Heron of Alexandria. The device was described simply as a sphere of Aeolus but Heron never realized the potential uses of his creation and dismissed it is nothing more than a simple toy to keep a drowsy emperor awake. It would be nearly 2000 years before a practical steam engine would be invented. A steam engine is a machine that converts the heat energy of steam into mechanical energy. A steam engine passes its steam into a cylinder, where it then pushes a piston back and forth. It is with this piston movement that the engine can do mechanical work. The steam engine was the major power source of the Industrial Revolution in Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It dominated industry and transportation for 150 years. It's common knowledge that modern civilization was forged in the factories of the industrial revolution. And these factories themselves were powered by the steam engine. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that steam engines ushered in the modern age. But where did the steam engine come from? Who was the inventor of this "mover of mountains?" The steam engine was not so much invented as developed. To give credit to any one person would be to steal credit away from its many rightful owners. The steam engine was developed over a period of about a hundred years by three British inventors. The first crude steam-powered machine was built by Thomas Savery, of England, in 1698. Savery built his machine to help pump water out of coal mines. This machine was so simple that it had no moving parts. It also used up lots and lots of coal just to pump a small quantity of water. To say it was a steam engine would be to stretch the world "engine" far beyond its current meaning. However, it would be fair to say that Savery was the first person to find a practical way of using steam to perform useful work. The next stage in the history of the steam engine was a result of the work of Thomas Newcomen, also of England. Newcomen knew that there must be a way of improving on Savery's inefficient steam powered pump. Newcomen built a machine where the steam actually pushed a movable piston in one direction. This true "steam engine" was also used to pump water out of coal mines. Neither Savery nor Newcomen had any grander purpose in mind for their machines. This all changed in 1763, when James Watt, a Scottish engineer, set out to improve upon Newcomen's design. Watt figured out a way to push a piston back and forth in its cylinder. And more importantly, he found out a way to make this back-and-forth motion turn a wheel. By using a "crankshaft," the steam engine could produce circular motion. Watt may not have realized it at the time, but he had just invented the first railroad locomotive. Unfortunately, Watt didn't have the money to develop his improved steam engine. However, he was able to convince an English manufacturer that building steam engines could become a profitable business. Together with his business partner, James Watt started a company to build steam engines. Of course, he must have hoped that his improved steam engine would find many uses in factories. But little did he realize at the time that his machine would forever alter the course of history. The improved steam engine aided by the wheel provided a major advance in the way we traveled over water. By late 1700, the steam ship was the man's first major development in traveling great distances since the creation of the sail 1000's of years before. The French were the steam ships earliest pioneers of the late 1700's. But it was an American Robert Fulton who 1st achieved commercial success when he gained world wide attention for driving a steam ship from Clermont between New York and Albany in 1807. With the success of steam travel on the waterways, inventors looked at the steam engine as a power source for land transport. Hope you are now clear about the steam engine to a certain extend. In the upcoming videos, we'll discuss about some other inventions that changed the world. Can you guess them? I'll give you a hint. It has got a connection with the steam engine.. Make your guesses in the comment section below. Stay tuned...

Working Model of Stephenson's STEAM ENGINE made of GLASS ! Rare!

02:17
Highlights: * The crankshaft is glass. The piston is glass. The counterweight that makes the wheel spin evenly is glass. Imagine that everything is made out of glass. * There are no sealants used. All is accomplished by a perfectly snug fit. The gap between the piston and its compartment is so small, that the water that condensates from the steam seals it shut! * Notice the elaborate excessive steam exhaust system next to the piston. * The piston is the most arduous part to make due to to extreme level of precision needed. Its parts have to be so accurate that no machinery is of use here. The piston and its cylinder must be hand sanded to perfection, and they are very likely to crack in the process! On average, three out of four crack. This Model of Stephenson's Steam Engine was made in 2008 by master glassblower Michal Zahradník. The Surprising Future of Steam Power | Robert Green | TEDxMissionViejo

18:00
Robert is devoted full time to developing inventions, writing and applying for patents on a wood-working system, a windmill, a rotary conversion device and a steam engine (six patents). Here he shares his idea about how the Electrical Grid and be replaced with a simple steam engine, that not only creates clean energy but saves dramatically on energy waste. At age 15, he hitchhiked to Chicago to begin a new life on his own. Mechanical skills learned on the farm provided the means to stay off the streets and utilize that knowledge. In 1964 he founded Turin Bicycle Company with smoke-damaged bicycles he obtained from a warehouse fire. The business flourished and Robert sold it the following year. The next few years were spent traveling and living in Europe. After returning to the US, he started a new business- Green Construction Company. With industrial machinery purchased from failed factories, Robert created custom cabinetry, furniture and architectural pieces as well as sculpture. He learned many new skills and became professional in carpentry, joinery/cabinetry, furniture design electrical, plumbing, machining, mechanics, metal casting, jewelry making, masonry, tile setting, welding, fine art (sculpting, painting, drafting, cartooning and drawing) as well as mechanical engineering, patent writing, and business management. Joseph Cugnot Steam Engine 4

00:54
Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot (26 February 1725 -- 2 October 1804) was a French inventor. He is believed to have built the first self-propelled mechanical vehicle. Cugnot was born in Void-Vacon, Lorraine, (now departement of Meuse), France. He trained as a military engineer. He experimented with working models of steam-engine-powered vehicles for the French Army, intended for transporting cannon, starting in 1765. Cugnot was one of the first to employ successfully a device for converting the reciprocating motion of a steam piston into rotary motion by means of a ratchet arrangement. A small version of his three-wheeled fardier à vapeur ran in 1769. (A fardier was a massively built two-wheeled horse-drawn cart for transporting very heavy equipment such as cannon barrels). The following year, a full-size version of the fardier à vapeur was built, specified to be able to carry 4 tons and cover 2 lieues (7.8 km or 4.8 miles) in one hour, a performance it never achieved in practice. The vehicle, which weighed about 2.5 tonnes tare, had two wheels at the rear and one in the front where the horses would normally have been; this front wheel supported the steam boiler and driving mechanism. The power unit was articulated to the "trailer" and steered from there by means of a double handle arrangement. One source states that it seated four passengers and moved at a speed of 2.25 miles per hour. The vehicle was reported to have been very unstable due to poor weight distribution - which would have been a serious disadvantage seeing that it was intended that the fardier should be able to traverse rough terrain and climb steep hills. In 1771, the second vehicle is said to have gone out of control and knocked down part of the Arsenal wall. Boiler performance was also particularly poor, even by the standards of the day, with the fire needing to be relit and steam raised again every quarter of an hour or so, considerably reducing overall speed. After running a small number of trials variously described as being between Paris and Vincennes and at Meudon, the project was abandoned and the French Army's experiment with mechanical vehicles came to an end. Even so in 1772, King Louis XV granted Cugnot a pension of 600 livres a year for his innovative work and the experiment was judged interesting enough for the fardier to be kept at the Arsenal until transferred to the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in 1800, where it can still be seen today. http://www.steamcar.net

Ancient Greek Automobile Reconstructed: Heron's Aeolipile

03:07
Original archaeological reconstruction for what could have been the world's first automobile, utilising the known technology of Hellenistic age Greek polymath Heron and his famous Aeolipile (circa 10ad-70ad). Effectively the predecessor of the industrial age's steam engine. The aeolipile consists of a vessel, usually a "simple" solid of revolution, such as a sphere or a cylinder, arranged to rotate on its axis, having oppositely bent or curved nozzles projecting from it (tipjets). When the vessel is pressurised with steam, steam is expelled through the nozzles, which generates thrust due to the rocket principle as a consequence of the 2nd and 3rd of Newton's laws of motion. When the nozzles, pointing in different directions, produce forces along different lines of action perpendicular to the axis of the bearings, the thrusts combine to result in a rotational moment (mechanical couple), or torque, causing the vessel to spin about its axis. Aerodynamic drag and frictional forces in the bearings build up quickly with increasing rotational speed (rpm) and consume the accelerating torque, eventually cancelling it and achieving a steady state speed. Typically, and as Hero described the device, the water is heated in a simple boiler which forms part of a stand for the rotating vessel. There has been much debate as to whether Heron's invention could have spurred the first automobile of the Greek World, however no evidence suggests he or his successors used the technology for this purpose. I designed this conjectural piece to portray what could have been 2000 ago with all the able technology at their disposal (also imagine the technological advancement today should all the stages of the industrial revolution have happened in the distant past rather than a century ago). Two sculptures of wild boar are moulded into the carriage to show even if engineering capability allowed for automatic power, the social climate of the Greeks may have still fancied the prestige and symbolism of an animal drawn carriage, an interesting clash of cultures. The boiler in my case is attached to the main cog, and when a lever closes the sphere, air expels through two holes forcing the cog to rotate, in turn rotating a lineal cog twice the size and amount of keys (spinning exactly half as fast as the main cog) joined to the back wheels. INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION | Educational Video for Kids.

In this video we are going to know everything about the Industrial Revolution. As we always tell you, it is very important to know the past, to understand the present and improve the future. ▶SUBSCRIBE TO HAPPY LEARNING! http://bit.ly/HappyLearningTV ▶Web site: https://happylearning.tv/en/ ▶Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HappyLearningTv Recommended video: Roman Empire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9bcohqsTGk&t=4s Hello friends, welcome to a new Happy Learning video ... today we are going to learn about a period of history very important and very revolutionary, today we are going to learn about the Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution is the stage of history that goes from 1780 to 1850 and began in England. For almost the entire history of mankind, life had been based on agriculture and livestock. At the end of the 18th century, the Englishman James Watt invented, or rather perfected, the steam engine. Until then the artisans had been dedicated to the manufacturing of utensils with their own hands in small workshops, but with the arrival of the steam engine, that changed forever. This machine used the energy of steam to transform it into power and moving other machines. These new machines were applied to the industry and began to do the work that the artisans used to do, so the small artisan workshops were disappearing giving way to the big factories. The steam engine was also used for transport and the first trains and steam boats were manufactured, which facilitated trade and travel between cities and countries. Europe was filled with trains. During the Industrial Revolution, the rural society dominated by the nobility stopped being as important as it was and the urban society dominated by the bourgeoisie started to appear. The bourgeoisie were normal people who had become powerful and rich thanks to trade. Since they had a lot of money, they started investing in technology and were the first to build factories. The workers, also called proletarians, were the people who did not have wealth. Not being able to make a living in the countryside or in the villages, they emigrated to the big cities to work in the factories. At first they worked in very bad conditions and for very little money meaning that many children had to work on very hard and dangerous tasks so that their families could feed themselves. The workers asked for rights to work in a dignified and safe way, and the owners, the bourgeoisie, did not want to give it to them. After many conflicts, strikes and fights, the workers managed to make the work days last eight hours, and allowed them to rest on Sundays or take vacation days ... and also children were protected so that they did not have to work anymore. Today we continue to use many of these rights and also many of the machines we use are developments of those first steam engines. You already know that knowing the past allows us to understand the present and improve the future. Goodbye friends until the next video, ah and do not forget to subscribe to Happy Learning Tv

White inventions and discoveries - Automobile

14:48
The History of the Automobile The very first self-powered road vehicles were powered by steam engines and by that definition Nicolas Joseph Cugnot of France built the first automobile in 1769 - recognized by the British Royal Automobile Club and the Automobile Club de France as being the first. So why do so many history books say that the automobile was invented by either Gottlieb Daimler or Karl Benz? It is because both Daimler and Benz invented highly successful and practical gasoline-powered vehicles that ushered in the age of modern automobiles. Daimler and Benz invented cars that looked and worked like the cars we use today. However, it is unfair to say that either man invented "the" automobile. History of the Internal Combustion Engine - The Heart of the Automobile An internal combustion engine is any engine that uses the explosive combustion of fuel to push a piston within a cylinder - the piston's movement turns a crankshaft that then turns the car wheels via a chain or a drive shaft. The different types of fuel commonly used for car combustion engines are gasoline (or petrol), diesel, and kerosene. The Importance of Nicolaus Otto One of the most important landmarks in engine design comes from Nicolaus August Otto who in 1876 invented an effective gas motor engine. Otto built the first practical four-stroke internal combustion engine called the "Otto Cycle Engine," and as soon as he had completed his engine, he built it into a motorcycle. Otto's contributions were very historically significant, it was his four-stoke engine that was universally adopted for all liquid-fueled automobiles going forward. (Learn more about Nicolaus Otto) The Importance of Karl Benz In 1885, German mechanical engineer, Karl Benz designed and built the world's first practical automobile to be powered by an internal-combustion engine. On January 29, 1886, Benz received the first patent (DRP No. 37435) for a gas-fueled car. It was a three-wheeler; Benz built his first four-wheeled car in 1891. Benz & Cie., the company started by the inventor, became the world's largest manufacturer of automobiles by 1900. Benz was the first inventor to integrate an internal combustion engine with a chassis - designing both together. (Learn more about Karl Benz) Daimler 4 Wheeler car. The Importance of Gottlieb Daimler In 1885, Gottlieb Daimler (together with his design partner Wilhelm Maybach) took Otto's internal combustion engine a step further and patented what is generally recognized as the prototype of the modern gas engine. Daimler's connection to Otto was a direct one; Daimler worked as technical director of Deutz Gasmotorenfabrik, which Nikolaus Otto co-owned in 1872. There is some controversy as to who built the first motorcycle Otto or Daimler. The 1885 Daimler-Maybach engine was small, lightweight, fast, used a gasoline-injected carburetor, and had a vertical cylinder. The size, speed, and efficiency of the engine allowed for a revolution in car design. On March 8, 1886, Daimler took a stagecoach and adapted it to hold his engine, thereby designing the world's first four-wheeled automobile. Daimler is considered the first inventor to have invented a practical internal-combustion engine. In 1889, Daimler invented a V-slanted two cylinder, four-stroke engine with mushroom-shaped valves. Just like Otto's 1876 engine, Daimler's new engine set the basis for all car engines going forward. Also in 1889, Daimler and Maybach built their first automobile from the ground up, they did not adapt another purpose vehicle as they had always been done previously. The new Daimler automobile had a four-speed transmission and obtained speeds of 10 mph. Daimler founded the Daimler Motoren-Gesellschaft in 1890 to manufacture his designs. Eleven years later, Wilhelm Maybach designed the Mercedes automobile. (Learn more about Gottlieb Daimler & Wilhelm Maybach) *If Siegfried Marcus built his second car in 1875 and it was as claimed, it would have been the first vehicle powered by a four-cycle engine and the first to use gasoline as a fuel, the first having a carburetor for a gasoline engine and the first having a magneto ignition. However, the only existing evidence indicates that the vehicle was built circa 1888/89 - too late to be first.

The Debate Over Pubg New Weapons Top Tips of Pubg Quotes

For competitive play its important to draw players in with more than simply bragging rights. Therefore, only a mid-range smartphone that players may have the game perfectly. Unfortunately, theres no game out there which exactly resembles GGO. A game like PUBG needs to be handled with care. For example in Pubg, the gameplay is sort of slow when compared with its two concurrents, thus if the looting process is adaptive he must be also slow to be prosperous. The graphics werent as developed as various other versions, and it doesnt support split-screen for the Multiplayer. Equipping a unique mod before starting a match permits you to carry eight of them simultaneously! Pubg New Weapons - Dead or Alive? If a person is suspected of travelling abroad to take part in terrorism, police can seize passports for as much as 30 days while the person is investigated further. The very first step on that is to construct a Boosted Implosion bomb. So hunting the enemies is the very best approach to have higher chance to receive fantastic items, hence higher opportunity to win the game eventually. For example, you are within fire and attempting to sprint to a cover. Youve got a great deal of ground to cover, so if you dont find a Chocobo Stable you can expect to become into a great deal of battles. If it is not dead by now, then theres something holding it, and perhaps its player base on console that might be not THAT small. PUBGs strong place in the territory can likewise be seen in the quantity of time players are spending in the game. 1 hit kill no matter in which you hit (back as soon as the Alpha was playable). Oddly enough, getting shot all of the time actually makes the entire thing not as stressful. The guns have three distinct modes of operation, every one of which will decide on the action of the trigger tail on the firing pin, and thus will be taken into consideration in its usage. A pistol will be a lot better for combat, for an extremely speedy usage, but the revolver will promise a lengthier life, without needing to pay exclusive attention.
