I would agree that this game cost too much, but I would also guess that part of that price tag went into the fully animated cutscenes. There are a lot of them in the game, and the game has a full on English dub using professional voice actors (the most notable ones being Cristina Vee as Girl Musashi, Spike Spencer as General Ausprey, and Todd Haberkorn as Rio, all of whom have had a lot of roles, many of them starring, in various anime, video games, and in the case of Haberkorn, western animation as well). However, while it has a "mobile" feel to it, I don't believe it belongs there, because I think Sushi Striker was designed with multiplayer in mind, and mobile gaming has rarely ever been able to execute head-to-head multiplayer very well. I could feel a lot of effort went into keeping the Sushi Sprites and Lane-Drive Gears reasonably balanced, and you get a lot of mileage out of finding Sushi Sprites who synergize well with each other, either in their skills or in their sushi menus. The thing is, however, is that Sushi Striker is not beginner-friendly. Until it clicks, you're going to struggle and make those tiny chains mentioned in this video. The gameplay is based around building momentum: Long chains create glowing plates to make it easier to get more long chains, which in turn build up Sushi Sprite skill gauges and toward Sushi Jubilee. Once you hit that point, and when you get enough Sushi Sprites to find a set of three who resonate well with each other (that is, pick Sushi Sprites who each have 3 of the same color plate on their menus, which will result in your lanes being full of them), it starts feeling INCREDIBLY rewarding. Really good players online will still strike you down like you're nothing though.

BeatEmUps The price is raised because the graphics went from barely passable on the 3ds to full on HD.

BeatEmUps Way to expensive

This game was planned first for the 3ds and touch controls in mind and it shows. I own it on my 3ds and it is quite fun. The gameplay is a bit slow to really start but after half of the first world the difficulty really start to become interesting. I would recommend to try it a little more but only with touch controls.

It cost me 34 euros. Madrid. Normal nintendo games cost 50 euros here. So dunno why the price at ur country.

Dude the one thing is that it says recommended level is 10 on one stage but your level has to be level 15 not the fact that it's hard to link up plates also it is easy to link up

As a delivery driver, you definitely should have tipped more. And never ask "is that with tip" it makes you sound ridiculous its never with tip unless you paid with credit card already.

Just want to point out that there are some sushi fans out there who'll have your head at you saying the Philadelphia Roll is your favorite. It's one of my favorites too, but said sushi fans will tell you it isn't even sushi because it uses ingredients not traditionally available in Japan. (I wonder if they'll get an aneurysm seeing Avocado Nigiri, which has been catching on in Japan.) As for $50, well, I spent more than that on my last time going to a sushi place. Granted, I didn't go alone. Dunno how you managed to find a Philadelphia Roll set for roughly $5.55.

Insert 'you didn't play the game for twenty hours so that's why you missed the point' comments.

Totally agree, this game doesn't worth the price. I got the 3DS version and played twice, feels like same thing over and over again. Also not winning the game because computer players are have too much power over me is not fun.
SAIHATI79 - Roblox (2 months ago)
Other than the price, this is a great game. I think it was still worth to buy it. If u play it on the ds it's way better
Nidorino Alliance (2 months ago)
It’s more fun to play on the 3DS, which makes sense since it was originally an exclusive. Since the touch screen is a lot smaller, it’s far more comfortable and less frustrating to hold your stylus on a certain plate, and make really big combos. Its also easier to deal with the cutscenes and the shortness of the battles as a handheld. It’s Frogger meets Bejeweled, with a bit of Warioware, and for me that level of fun was worth the price. It’s a lot like Battlechef Brigade, where it’s this incredibly addictive and meaty campaign, with all of these different gameplay systems brought together to create an incredibly charming atmosphere and world.

Absolutely disagree with this review! You missed the point of the game and are not giving it enough credit for its writing, art, and design - does not belong in the same sad bucket as xenoblade 2 at all

What I find strange and this is the first time I've checked this the game when compared with prices in australia where I'm from is $8 dollars cheaper. Do Americans pay more always? And I compared Gamestop with EB Games so same company
nen nennen (3 months ago)
It should have never been a full priced game. You can eat 40 dishes of sushi at a sushi-go-round and have one dessert for the same price.
PikaLink91 (3 months ago)
I love sushi, but I rarely eat it, it's way too expensive. 9 sushi for 50 bucks is a lot to you? ...I hope you meant boxes.

I’d have to say that I think the Nintendo switch as a platform is expensive and it is unfair that the games are more expensive as well that’s why for the time being I will be using my new 2ds XL. There are so many good games on the DS systems I’m just gonna wait for the switch to come down in price eventually I know maybe a few years but I have no need upgrade right now. I recently picked up Captain toad on the 3DS and that was a nice game didn’t really feel like I was missing anything in comparison to the Nintendo switch version obviously it’s a lower resolution but didn’t mind it
Scrubnoppon (3 months ago)
Alrighty, I’m gonna have to play devil’s advocate here. First things first gotta give credit where it’s due, I can’t justify the 10 dollar difference between the switch and 3DS version. Like, at all. And I’ll also agree that it’s way easier to link the plates using the touch screen, but there are multiple ways to make it easier. Firstly, I noticed in the stream footage where you said you were only able to link maybe 2 or 3 plates at a time, you weren’t using any drive gears. Drive gears control the speed of the sushi on the belts, and activate when you press and hold on one piece of sushi. When the belts move faster, it’s waaaay easier to zig-zag around and make big combos. That’s where some of the fun of it comes from, anyway. Also, there are sushi spirites that help you link more. The first one you get, Jinzo does a good job at that. And Sun-O allows you to skip over any plates to get to the other plates you need. I also think the cutscenes are fine. Past chapter 1, you get long strings of levels that have nothing in the beginning and just push you right into battle. Sometimes it’s strings of 4 or 5 levels without any story, but when there is little story cutscenes, they’re well written like you said. What’s to complain about if they thin them out but keep the quality. It’s common for games to have tutorials and long bits of exposition at the beginning. Sushi striker is no different. The game gets more complicated as you go on. I didn’t see much gameplay past the first few chapters. But that’s when you get more sprites, favorite sushi bonuses, the puzzle, multiplayer, and online modes... there’s plenty to do here. I also don’t really think it’s fair to compare a small game like sushi striker to triple A titles like Zelda and Mario because, come on. Sushi striker is a new IP, and Zelda and Mario are huge money-making system sellers. Sushi striker is a humble puzzle game with a good deal of polish, but with less staff and much less budget. All in all, I understand this game isn’t for everyone. I don’t wanna come off sounding like sushi striker is a masterclass of gaming and should only have its sacred name uttered by the most holy of beings. I’m not trying to be a fanboy. I just think sushi striker is a really charming game that could use some love outside of Japan. I just get the impression that you didn’t play this game very much outside chapter 1 or 2. Of course this game has problems. It’s not perfect. But gosh darn it, if it doesn’t have that charm that kept me pulled in.

The only reason they costed 40 dollars for the 3ds version and 50 for the switch because they want more people to buy the 3ds version.
Jordan Moir (3 months ago)
Most games on the switch are overpriced and well bad
Sebastian Schulz (3 months ago)
My wild guess is that producing games physically for Switch is more expensive than producing for 3DS. But the only facts that support this are: 1. Reported shortages of SD chipsets for Nintendo Switch cartridges around the launch of the first few Switch games. 2. The reported incident of Nintendo Switch cartridge lack of volume and shortage in availability before the physical releases of the first big Bethesda titles. 3. From interviews Indi Devs shying away from releasing physically for Nintendo Switch even if game volume formats and cover artwork are already set in stone, because of the costs and uncertainty if the physical copy is actually being bought over the digital one. But yeah, this doesn't seem to be enough to justify 10 bucks more, it just hints at a possibility of a physical release for Switch being less attractive than one for 3DS.

Not sure if you know this, the cutscenes are skippable with Y- Also in my experience the button controls in this game really suck, and I enjoy the 3DS version more

ARE DIGITAL GAMES A RIPOFF? When he was talking about buying the plastic when you buy a game made me think “Dose that mean digital games a a ripoff?” I mean your not buying the plastic witch should lower the price of the game and Around $20 of a game you buy (depending on the game of coarse) is the retailer get money for buying the games and selling them to you. So that means digital games should be much cheaper then they are. So are they a rip off?

Use a capacitive stylus. And this not being worth the money is off base, easily has as much content as a Splatoon 2, with more load-out and tactical possibilities and a much longer, flesh-out single player campaign. This is gonna be one of those cult classics people lie about having played in 5 years.

I really wanted to know the problem with sushi striker, but I couldn't get past a minute in the video where you start complaining about not getting a free physical copy.  I know you are aware, you said so in the video, but damn, you really don't need to complain to viewers that you aren't satisfied with the format of your free game that just released.  I had to pay 50$ plus tax for my digital copy of sushi striker.I will say this, if the price of sushi striker is the biggest concern, I think it is worth it.  I am about 25 hours in, and have not unlocked half of the areas in game yet (been doing a lot of backtracking to get stars).  And there is a surprising amount of depth involved.  The production values are pretty nice, too (as long as you are not put off by anime).  Sushi Striker has its faults, and I wouldn't complain if it (or any game I buy) were cheaper.  But I personally think I am going to get my money's worth out of this game, I don't know if I can say the same for Mario Tennis Aces (which was great, but the single player content finished too fast).
Ehppy (GodGeneralSync) (4 months ago)
I only played the demo but I feel pretty much the same as your points in the video. I would be totally down to pay $30 for something like this, but not much more than that. I'd probably pick up the 3DS version anyway because handheld mode switch is a bit big and awkward for my hands and I definitely wouldn't want to play the whole game with a controller.

I mean....they did the same thing for Fire Emblem Warriors. 2 different costs for the same game.

Im gonna be honest, I really enjoy this game, its basically useless unless you play handheld, but it is quick fun. I would love it if the game was a bit cheaper, because youre right, why would the 3ds and switch versions be so different in price?!
Romain Pascaud (4 months ago)
Actually, I found this to be a bad game. The gameplay isn't fun or challenging, as the combos are way too permissive and the whole thing feels luck-based, the dialogs and scenes are GRATING, and as you said, this game is just as polished, or maybe less than stellar games that sell for 15 bucks on the eShop like Dandara or Thimbleweed Park... And yeah, the price...
Broseph (4 months ago)
The only difference is that Xenoblade 2 is worth 80$... (Canadian)

Well at least Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is not full price
Tash Hatcher (4 months ago)
I’m really enjoying it! Yes at the start the levels are quick but further in then they get longer as you build your team. Plus there’s a certain amount of strategy involved in getting you team correct to be able to win and that involved checking the sushi they make to see if there’s lots of the same coloured plates to make bigger chains and better combos.

Sheikah Dragoon (4 months ago)
I agree it's not worth 40$ or 50$. Defiantly does look like a mobile game. Really polished? No. BotW, Mario Odyssey, Bayonetta, now those are polished games. Their not trying to really push the Switch with Sushi Striker. I'm not a graphics kind of person but it looks very weak in graphics compared to other Switch games. Looks short and forgettable. I'll pass.
Well see, i justify kirby star allies being 60$ because they are adding a bunch of free dlc! We've already got three new dream friends, and three more coming! If we look at the datamines, there will be about 5 more for a total of 11! I feel as if the full amount of dream friends would add at least 5$ more worth of content! To me, paying 60$ for a semi-finished game and then finishing it with dlc is the equivalent of paying like 50$ and buying 10$ dlc. While 50$ would be better, nintendo usually always charges 60$ for their first party console games! To be fair though, i am a HUGE kirby fan!
