It's Easter Monday so that's a perfect time to look at the best Easter eggs in gaming. Back in the good old days there was no internet and you had to rely on stories from friends or magazines to unlock secrets in games. To relive those times we take a look at the five coolest Easter eggs from the 80s and early 90s.
Pilotwings – N64 – 1996 – Mario becomes Wario on mountain
Who didn't love the open world flying action of Pilotwings. In the Nintendo 64 game you could see Mario's head as part of Mount Rushmore. Hit the mountain often enough and Mario will change into Wario. How's that for a cool little Easteregg?
Zombies Ate My Neighbours – PC/SNES – 1993 – Meet George Lucas!
When you finish the Super Nintendo game Zombies Ate My Neighbours and sit through the entire three minute credit role you unlock a sweet Easteregg. The main character of the game can walk into a virtual studio where he's greeted by the one and only George Lucas himself. Yup, the Force is strong with this one.
Duke Nukem 3D – PC 1996 – Indiana Jones
Speak of George Lucas... this one is interesting too. Duke Nukem 3D is full of Easter eggs, ranging from the Doom space marine to references to the OJ Simpson trial. However, finding Indiana Jones spiked to a wall in a cave that's about to collapse, is what we call an awesome Easter egg!
Doom 2 – PC – 1992 – Hate John Romero
Back in the early nineties it was quite easy for developers to hide stuff in their games. Apparently the team working on Doom 2 hated John Romero so much that they decided to put his head on a spike in a secret room. Suck it down Romero!
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past – SNES – 1992 – Chris Houlihan room
Back in 1990 Chris Houlihan won a contest to get his own room in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. But the communication between the US and Japanese departments of Nintendo was so bad, that the Japanese kept sealing the room thinking it was a bug. Now the Chris Houlihan room can only be reached by glitching through some walls.

Actually, the modern internet was invented in 1989 and it definitely existed in the 1990s, even if it took hours to load a web page and most web pages were either just text or filled with MIDIs, animated gifs, and overall bad web design.
Also, some of these games are from the late 90s.
And Romero's head on a stick wasn't done out of hate, but rather as just a joke.
Also, none of these games are from the 80s.
Actually he found out his head on a stick easter egg that rest of the crew put into the game without his knowledge, and he followed that up with reversed demonic message which says: "to win the game you must kill me, John Romero" and didn't tell them about it or what it meant. Maaan not only they made best game of all time but they were also amazing people with great self-distance, sense of humor and overall attitude.. Nowdays developers now just search for ways to rip off players as much money as they can, don't give shit about feedback and gamplay quality (cs:go is I believe the most popular example of it atm), and sue everything around. Sad...
The head of John Romero was put there as a joke by his coworkers the second last day during development. They didn't think he would find it out but when he came to work the next morning he decided to takt the last level just to make sure it worked as intended. He found it out and decided to turn the joke back to them by recording the lines of the final boss and reverse it. He says this in a interview that's on YouTube. "Developer's talking" I think it was? I probably remember some details wrong, but as a whole that's basically how it was.
Couldn't help but smh while she talked that noise about John Romero. Suck it down Romero FML. Devs secretly added his head in there as a joke hoping he wouldn't find out til after release. To let them know he knew he recorded a message backwards. "To win the game you must kill me, John Romero."
Actually, the Easter Egg with Romero's head was INTENDED by John Romero himself. Reversing the audio made by the Icon of Sin will make "To win the game, you must kill me, John Romero", which was John Romero saying the line. In fact, in the game files, there are pictures of John Romero, further evidence that Romero intended this Easter Egg.
The Zelda one is not accurate, you could easily enter that room by having a bomb knock you backwards into a hole in the sanctuary graveyard when you leave you come out of your one house. I've done it many many times lol
the legend of zelda: link to the past is completely wrong. th chris houlahan room isnt a glitch. well in the JAP games it was an error handler for invalid warps via doors... but in the EU and US games the room is accessible if u leave the castle and manage to run to smash a bush with a staircase below it on the right of the castle. if u run fast enuf without hitting any enemies and u get into the staircase u get sent to the houlahan room
two of my favorite glitches/easter eggs were,
visiting Sandover Village in Jak 2
(pausing in the opening cutscene, opening the disc tray, and loading the game, then you can wander in a small section of Sandover Village)
the Ghost Town in Jak 3!
(basically you can clip through a wall in Spargas, and end up in an inverted verssion of the town)
1) No, you don't just blindly shoot the Mario head, you have to shoot him on his M or his nose to make it Wario, and you can still change him back with another missle
2) Yeah, John Romero IS the Final Boss, they didn't "hate him".
3)There is a well-known way to get into the Chris Houlihan room without glitching through rooms to get to it. :p Nice video, but seriously, get your facts straight.
Yes I did play games in the 1980's, my first computer was the Commodore 64 and then I moved onto the Amiga in the early 1990's, then later IBM PC after Commodore went under.
So yeah, I was there.
I like that there was a rumer that you could have made Lara Croft nude in Tomb Raider and that probably EVERYONE tried to find how to do so.If this was true I have no doubt Rob or Tim would have put it at number 1 (and maybe in some porn files on their PC?).
Sorry Zoomin, but your information about Doom 2 is completly wrong. Romero wanted to be the weak point. You can hear it from the text which the boss says (if you play it backwards) : To win the game you must kill me, John Romero.
i know its 2 years old. but the reason why he did that is because he figured out that the developers put his head in the game. so he did as joke the reverse sentence. To make it sound more evil. nobody knew about it at that time. till the game was released
The PC community has grown a good deal in a really limited time frame and there isnt any reason to believe the game wont be equally as addicting for Xbox players. The Honest to Goodness Truth on Pubg Warrior Pack
Nevertheless, its always tough to locate a trustworthy seller of a Black Desert account on account of the risk involved in these sorts of transactions. Bring on such a desert map! We guess because its about becoming the lone survivor, even if theres a lot of teamwork on the way.
The game will probably remain in early access for some moment. It continues to attract new players that are hoping to get that sweet, sweet chicken dinner. This usually means youre have to begin downloading the game at midnight, and after that begin playing once PUBG is installed. There isnt just one play through of Black Desert that ends up the same because its up to the player to determine the method by which they level. Because of this, players will need to use the Xbox Game Preview program to be able to play the game. Xbox One players might have to wait somewhat longer for the full-release edition. They will also be able to purchase some exclusive content in the form of special cosmetic packs.
