Rock Band 4 for PS4 isn't available on PSN in my country for some reason. I can't buy it or music for it or add-ons.
JOEL SMITH (21 hours ago)
What killed rock band is the creators of rock band did not understand why I made it fun. I wish there was a direct link directly to Harmonix that you could explain to them how to fix it it's very simple. the same way code act did not understand they were in the business of making memories not making pictures and that is why they are out of business now

When rb4 first came out it had very few good songs no versus online or online period now it's a lot better

Hey don't forget clone hero for gutiar hero, that will never die since you can make and play other peoples songs.just ask ukogmonky
BigButtBoy (4 days ago)
they should just release 1 game every 10 years or so (when graphics GREATLY improve) and just keep adding songs for a dollar per song that you want. also keep making new guitars, drums, and mics of different colors and styles. maybe a Customizable guitar, drums, or mic. they can sell them on their website/amazon or something. give retailers some best sellers to sell and BAM music games can be making money again.

Do you think we will see a new twisted metal any time soon? Also my favorite is Rockband 4
RideTheLightning761 (4 days ago)
The only reason I bought the Rockband 4 band set was because I was in need of new instruments....that was probably the worse decision I’ve ever made, I really despise the madcatz instruments because they’re completely non-responsive, I was better of buying an electric drum set and dishing out for a new guitar from one of the past games, at least then Id know I’d be enjoying the games...

In my opinion I think guitar hero world tour and 5 was great game to play on the xbox 360

Still a big fan of these games. Think the best was Rock Band 2 & Rock Band 3. RB 4 is still also alive on PS4 & Xbox1 - major issue with series at relaunch was doing it too close to GH release and RB4 sorta unfinished with many features missing when you compare to those two past RB titles I mentioned. Final issue was GH trying to change the guitar playing as it just fell flat when you did not have support for songs from past games which RB does on RB4 but RB4 has the issue with their pockets not being as deep when you look at the less popular DLC they release more often (less frequency of getting DLC from more well known artists like GNR, Rolling Stones, The Eagles etc). Would have been better to have RB combine their game with deep pockets of A larger publisher to get a more polished game at launch & more consistent larger act DLC. Cost like mentioned was possibly an issue - instruments should have been cheaper and better made since they already had it down from last versions. Big issue now is the fact instruments are not readily available by RB publisher so hard to get new people interested. Hoping they relaunch with RB5 and release more instruments at a reasonable $.

first off- yay for the niche market! this game honestly had specific generational appeal, and that prob peaked with us kids (I was in my mid 20's when the first Rock Band game came out- me and my best friend since day one o' college bought it day one in 2007) ahem, anyway, the game peaked around 2011, a year after Rock Band 3 came out, which gave three microphones, a keytar, and a huge improvement in sound quality. The song library was expanding like crazy with classic albums and songs, 7 people at one time could play the game- we had our fun. In November 2018, we still have the game, our song library is close to 650 songs, and said same best friend and many other friends still enjoy playing, and can imagine it'll continue to be updated because there are enough people who like the game now and will like in the future, even as it continues to change..
MadLane (7 days ago)
in my opinion was bad music, the reason GH3 is the best is the music, the game never allow for mods or play your own music, so we never got the real guitar epic music we deserved, they did make Metallica GH which to me was awesome, they should have done an entire Metal GH with all the Metal songs you could possibly fit in it XD

Guitar hero is crap compaired to rock band... Rock band feels more real and has better songs and new content still being released not to mention the founder of full band play.. Personaly the only guitar hero i care about is 2 and warriors of rock. The rest i feel contaminated and i feel like i need sprayed down with a can of rock band. , 2 ,3 ,4

guitar hero started with bad quality charts not multi track....... also why buy a new game when we just want new songs to play? who fucking care for the characters at the background................ thats why i play phase shift till this day.. also guitar hero live is a joke its just a fucking music in the background... worse than guitar hero 2 that atleast had the guitar part separate so it could be turned off. only rock band series are worth playing today.

Anybody else think a Guitar Hero + Nintendo LABO colab would be ( or would have been) insanely awasome? Build the guitar. Score points Oh and actually learn how to play, read and write sheet music.

I loved the games especially RB, but I never bought RB 4 for the mere fact that they didn't do the keytar support nor did they allow real guitar and bass as they had with RB 3.

Bjørn Tore Lødding (14 days ago)
For me there was too many games and I never opened the last game I bought. Its still covered with plasticfilm. I also burnee out and just got tired to hunt achievements and alot of them was really stupid and had nothing to do with skills. You just had to play boring songs over and over again. I bought a fancy tv and it was so hard to calibrate. Could not find a good calibratesetting for it. I knew rockband 2/beatles had autocalibrate with the guitar but it was really buggy and almost never worked for me.
Bjørn Tore Lødding (14 days ago)
And they could not create a good working instrument. The first instruments never failed but once gh3 came out the gh3 guitar had issues with bad contact in neck, gh4 guitar had issues with double strum, gh4 drums never worked well and the singing was a disaster. The singingpart worked very well at the rockband games.

I still play drums on RB its amazing ^^
FinalFanastic (16 days ago)
The drums - where in this amazing world can u find drums+game+fun in one package - learning to play drums can even be hard when u start out and wanna be pro - this game lifted that starting area for me alot and i would like to thank them for that.. omfg the times we had with these games, my first ever complaint in my apartment was due to this game, we had a full setup and we played to around 04:00 in the morning.. damn my neighbors where about to kill me.. and yeah, Through fire and flames wow that song, got it on expert but no 100% or anything.. those times.. those times.
classicrock4ev3r (17 days ago)
Times change, people change, and peoples' interests change, that's what really did these games in. I used to play GH World Tour religiously with a whole bunch of people from friends to randoms. As time went on they didn't want to play anymore and as more time went on, they stopped listening to/ liking rock music altogether. We had fun though, and that's what matters.
Debi Johnson (17 days ago)
My husband , myself and fifteen grand kids have played since the first game came out. We all still play. But the ps4 came guitar hero sucks. I hate the new guitar. So we are ordering the ps4 rock band because the guitar's are still the same.

This is my absolute favorite video game and have worked to collect what I could when I come across it. The new GH relase in 2015: They fucked up when they made the notes w no color. Like it was monotone/ boring. But I think If they would have released a Classical genre game, requiring a Base Violin, Violin, etc., they would've totally reintroduced classical music to a young culture, but also add more instrument variety. Thank God RB4 stayed true ...so upsetting.
Todd Thomas (18 days ago)
None of this what you mentioned is not even the main reason. The artist's got tired of people getting a hold of their mastertracks and is was not just only these games, but other online services like Jammit for instance. So the major bands stopped pretty much giving the master tracks away to the companies. and now.... RIP!
jfnoxus (19 days ago)

I had some friends over recently to play Rock Band and let me tell you, that experience is still as great as it was back in the day. But despite RB4 being available with just the guitar, it is nigh impossible to find a working drumset for certain consoles without shelling out huge bucks on eBay. Regarding the video, I think all of that is all true, combined with how often the hardware (especially drums) sadly falls apart, and of course takes up space (it's substantial!). Combine that with a serious lack of forward compatibility in new consoles... I'm sad that Rock Band 4 failed to ever be released on PC, because I think there would be a certain compatibility there that would help drive forward consumer trust. There might be some argument that people are more interested in online play than actually interacting in person, too, but I think there will always be a steady contingent of college kids sharing apartments that could use a set.

I just never really enjoyed any of the games after GH3 i liked the goofy yet fun element the game had but then it just became dull i wish they would make something like the first three rather then try to come up with crazy ways to boost the sales. keep it simple and fun is all i really want.

I preferred Rockband myself when I got it years ago, but i got so good at it that it actually started feeling stale. I was already pretty adept with my actual guitar when Rocksmith came out and decided to move onto that instead. It's definitely the best way for beginners to learn how to play

I missed out on being able to port over old RB game songs to RB4 and I know Harmonix has lost licenses for some of these songs, but if they could bring back a few and make RB Greatest packs from past RB games, that would be awesome.

oiedave (25 days ago)
here is my opinion 1. trash selection of new music was selected 2. rockband 4 was released with missing important parts like match making, online play, being able to export songsongs from previous games was not possible... at least buying them... although there were many ppl asking for them they released very few songs 3. the game quality overall was decreased.. trash graphics and even the songs.. loved the effect of people singing the song with the band in rb2 or rb3.. lack of amazing stages.. overall they all felt worse on rb4 4. campaign was really poor .. in fact o was expecting the same story mode from the previous games rather than that stupid tv show like mode it is a pitty as i really enjoyed the game.. so now it seems to be dying 😭
Michael Wigg (25 days ago)
New gaming consoles, no more support on the old game, no backwards compatibility and having to purchase all new stuff is what killed it plain and simple. Had a blast playing these games with friends and family, it was a real game changer.
Great Team Hero (25 days ago)
I think the character creation killed part of it for me. Rockband 3 introduced latex looking models with bad hair and style. Also, the career mode didn't seem to flow as nice. Rockband 2 had a ton you could do with your characters to make them look cool and fun stuff like make a band photos online and even 3d print your characters.

bad developers on the part of activision and harmonix lost alot of fans when people bought the whole rbnetwork setlist and couldnt carry any of there songs over.

guitar hero Metallica i'd say, me and the lads loved going through the playlists in that game but for me REAL guitars came along and I never looked at GH/RB again. There's even games for the real guitar. Can highly recommend Rocksmith 2014 remastered
azuritereaction (26 days ago)
Just to note, none of these games "created a genre" as you said in the video; rhythm games started almost a decade before them with parappa the rapper, beatmania, and DDR (which was incredibly popular itself). Even if only counting instrument games, drummania, keyboard mania, and guitar freaks did this years before them too, as well as many, many other rhythm games from companies like Namco, Konami, Andamiro, Sega, and others. Heck, there was even a version of DDR that linked up with a karaoke machine and Guitar Hero itself actually has a note in it's manual about a patent from Konami (who made Guitar Freaks) that they had to adhere to/pay for. Harmonix also put out rhythm games prior to this with Frequency and Amplitude. Not saying GH and RB weren't huge factors in popularizing the genre for a new generation in the west, but just figured that was something really inaccurate to say in the video; otherwise, great video, and agreed with all the rest :)

Clone hero is where the thunder went. Free game, compatible guitar hero controllers, 20,000+ songs in DLC, smooth to run, and you can add background videos to it while you play. Amazing how a fan made product can shit on the original made by “professionals”
Austin Whitelaw (28 days ago)
Guitar hero lives on in the form of Clone Hero. Honestly it seems like because of Clone Hero and all the clips on youtube, Guitar Hero is getting more popular than it was maybe 2-3 years ago. That being said, a new game probably couldn't do much because everyone just adds custom songs to Clone Hero and there is no reason to buy a new Guitar Hero.
minic (28 days ago)
the main games might be dead but the community is absolutely THRIVING with clone hero.
ugxsan (28 days ago)
So I am a long-standing follower of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises. I always played the games very seriously with every intention of gitting gud. I think you've more or less hit the nail on the head as to what killed these franchises. The competition, the over saturation of the market, the declining interest from more casual players. Between the two it was just too much, too fast, with Activision stereotypically releasing multiple GH games a year. With their latest iterations, I think both companies had wonderful answers to the problem. Acti tried spicing up the gameplay and making something unique while Harmonix chose to make Rock Band 4 more of a platform in itself than an iterative title. However, it just seems to be too little, too late. Or perhaps too much, too soon? Rock Band 4, at least, is still receiving regular updates. Although it's nothing even on par with the support we were receiving back in the glory days when they put out anywhere from three songs to an entire album every week. It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, these companies attempt to do in the future. I don't think Band rhythm will truly die, but it certainly didn't leave itself much room, this generation.

Not enough Metallica and not enough Deep Purple. 80% of song lists were cringy 2006 bands and songs from the 20th century that weren't popular. I mean c'mon, if you're going to include songs from that century, put the good ones in.

As much as I love rockband and it’s huge selection of dlc, guitar hero was better, with the hammer ons and pull offs, it was more playable and fun!! And I use to play both games back to back sometimes but I’d always go to gh first, I still play but it’s not as fun anymore when ur soo good but no one plays to compete anymore and that just sad man.. I picked up rock smith 2014 when it came out and now I can play my favorite songs on a actual guitar. But I’d like to say that guitar hero did help with music rhythm and keeping up with beats and oh!! Finger speed!! So these games are history and should be remembered when gh and rb ruled the world and I was ok with it
Joe Borromeo (30 days ago)
What killed it was hard was too hard because it added a note and got faster, the drum were never accurate to the song either and most of the songs sucked. Guitar Hero Van Halen is still playable

What did it for me was the release of Rocksmith. As someone who played guitar before GH and RB, you can’t go back after playing a game with a real instrument. That Rocksmith is STILL releasing content despite not having updated the game in five years. That’s a good lifecycle to still have people purchase content.
ToniRali (1 month ago)
Rocksmith killed the other franchises, imo

Still have RB2 and 3 for Xbox. Looking for 4 on PS4
BIFCO Meyer (1 month ago)
I play all of them but I buy all the when they was cheap. And I stay with Microsoft when the last generation came out to have all the dlc song I buy for rock band 4. For me what kill this games is too much money between each episode the dlc and of course the instruments. That you can't use the ps3 controller on 360 or ps4 on Xbox one that you can't buy one time the song and play it like a mp3 or doing croosplatform. And people didn't want to give try. Guitar hero live try to comeback to a more casual playing with playing online without xboxlive gold or psn pro needed. But the commercial on that was bad. And the 6 frets scare people who didn't want to buy another controller. What a shame because the 6 fret guitar are more simple to manipulate and hurt less then the 5 fret. Rock band 4 still doing new song and in September 2018 renew for 2025 all the songs so meaning that thing are not so bad after all.
