http://www.patreon.com/jimquisition http://www.thejimquisition.com http://sharkrobot.com/collections/Jimquisition-merch Everybody loves lists, especially people who say they don't. The Jimquisition this week roots through history's garbage to find the ten worst types of DLC in videogame history. At least until we think of ten more, then we can do another list. Lists are great! If they were based in the US, Konami would be in the running to overtake EA for the "Worst Video Game Company in the US." So, they'll have to settle with "Worst Video Game Company in Japan."

yo dawg i heard you like packs, so i put some packs in your packs

If you are a responsible adult then you won't waste money on any dlc. And resist temptations!

So I like to listen while I drive. And I just pulled up to a coffee shop drawings when. Jim just happened to mention that Activision/blizzard can fuck themselves with a frozen stick of their own shit
Cantabile (13 days ago)
Metal gear survive sucks, but jim's still factually wrong to say you HAVE to buy a save slot for someone else to do another playthrough on your ps4. They just have to sign into their own PSN account and it's fine. No need to make up complaints when there's plenty of real ones.

The DLC for Mafia 2 was a complete fucking joke. First of all the game was rushed, they had this huge richly detailed city and yet the missions were about 10 hours long and only explored 40% of it. There were NO sidequests of any merit. The ending was very underwhelming. I found myself scratching my head wondering why, and then we had the "Jimmy's Vendetta" DLC, which was about this guy named Jimmy running around the city doing...sidequests. The cat was out of the bag when they showed a screenshot of Jimmy standing in his apartment, except the name "Vito" was on the door card. So they essentially removed all the quests outside the 10 hour story from the game, then crudely shoehorned in a new character and charged $9.99 for it. Ridiculous.

paying for character slots is something i can understand in mmo's where all character data is stored at their side and all, but it's usually not that expensive... and you usually have a few more than just 1 aswell xD (anyways, is character data stored on konami's servers in metal gear survive?)

"yes, thankyou Dave, as you can see here, I'm currently at the EA offices, and it is like a scene from my nightmares, you can see there on that pile of burning tires the marketing team, over there being beaten to death with sticks is the head of the marketing department, and over there in the centre, the crucified CEO on a flaming crucifix. Now, you and I both remember the controversial move on EA's part that instigated this entire crusade on large game developers: when they announced their latest game would in fact be sold in stores, but you would have to pay an extra $15.00 for the game itself." "Thankyou Laura, I hear they are currently dismembering the Ubisoft sales team with hatchets. Now, the weather."
Chrono Ryono (20 days ago)
How about perishable DLC? Stuff you use once and have to rebuy to use again in a new save file?
Babbleplay (21 days ago)
Oh, Jim, so trusting. So innocent. So naive. Sims 4 wasn't JUST gutted to sell the guts as DLC. Oh, that was part of it, to be sure, but, you see, they were making Sims 4 when Simcity came out, and.... well... ouch, they had a sudden new workload ahead of them, in ripping out the 'always online' aspect and all the unwanted crap that came with it; the devs had to radically redesign the game to not repeat the Simcity debacle, so, they didn't have time to make as many baubles.

dlc is cancer most of the time
bejitossj (28 days ago)
Complete editions too. Instead of including the dlcs on the disc, they just sell you the base game with a season pass code. After using the code the game becomes a basic game. It's more a temporary complete edition. FF15, Bloodborne, Batman Arkam knight,... Also PC physical game that need a steam activation. Which defy the purpose of having a physical version. And you need to use the code specifically on steam, and not on other services like GOG. The box and the cd are just goodies for your shelf.

10:06 I'm sorry, but is that Jim sterling and Neil deGrasse tyson?
Placido Penitente (28 days ago)
Ah good old FucKonami is back.
TheDalinkwent (28 days ago)
Lets be real. Any DLC announced before the game debuts is just the developers carving up the game to sell in pieces. Period. Before, you wouldn't hear about a game having DLC until the game had been out for months, sometimes years. Its all bullshit and the very reason I don't support DLC culture.
samuel O'Conner (29 days ago)
How about the creation club, and bethesda's paid mods
Lenna R (29 days ago)
i didnt even know about the epilogue for the prince of persia game

I feel morally justified in pirating the Sims 4. Just saying. Actually snarkiness aside I honestly think buying the base game and then pirating all the DLC is morally justifiable for any Sims game. It's actually what I've done since the original Sims. Maybe if programmers got paid royalties I'd change my mind in the future.

I love watching Jim, so entertaining, so spicy.
Bartholamue (1 month ago)
You should add cosmetic DLC as well.
theenglishman (1 month ago)
The only acceptable preorder bonus should be the ability to buy the game at a discounted price, so you don’t have to shell out the full $60 at launch. That’s it. No extra unbalancing items or stupid bonuses - tempt customers where it matters: the price.

Star citizen just said, "hold my beer". A mere $28000 gets you all the ships in the game. Every person who donated money to that dumpster fire should be shot into the sun.

The thing about battlefield 4 is that each gun has a different play style, and attachments where the way to improve that gun, so if you grinded, you’ll still have the edge over p2w players

"You might be perfect for a job at YouTube or Konami." Wow, Jim, that's harsh! Let's popularise it as an insult.

Jim. It's going to be fucking rough trying to top that opening gag on this video. Every time I watch that shit I nearly choke laughing.

I got Asura's Wrath for $12 and the DLC was on sale. With the game being so banana sammich I _had_ to get it. Game's crazy.

Cool intro and tribute to the Scatman. (Also, I laughed really hard over the Konami piece.)
CactusErebittsu (1 month ago)
5 minutes after starting this video and I STILL can't get past the intro. I don't get it, but holy hell is it hilarious.

I mean, I agree with all of this being shitty. But jim, doesn't it suck to be negative all the time?
Bowen Orcutt (1 month ago)
While I agree with the sentiment that the "workshop" dlcs for fallout 4 were just things they cut from the base game, I'll admit that the Vault - tec workshop was and is a guilty pleasure of mine, if only because the vault's build space was massive when compared to the other settlements. Then again, I'm one of those people who actually kinda enjoyed the ego trip of building up a whole bunch of towns filled with subservient flunkies.
Arcanua the Red Mage (1 month ago)
I have people ask me why I hate Capcom...THIS, THIS is why. I was fine with older Monster Hunter games because it was all free and made sense as it being that way. The rest of their games...I won't buy them... Pre-order bonuses I usually don't mind but it really depends on what it is. Don't use it to hide game mode type things nor characters. I really hate when they put it out later if it's going to be exclusive don't do that crap....FF13 Lightning Returns also did that with costumes. Sims 4 isn't as bad as it could be, but a lot of what it's in the missing list really should be there. You should have put Sims 3 on here with how the Sims Store was handled. Stuff packs for it sure those are fine the rest of it is nuts and is not worth anywhere near what they demand you to pay for it.
Colin Jackson (1 month ago)
What do you think about free DLC? I remember once getting ready to play FTL after a long break and all of a sudden I see Subset Games went out of their way to give its players a free, and very much large content expansion months after the game was released and most sales made. I thought that was fuggin awesome.
The Lowkster (1 month ago)
I will never touch a bandai namco game, or Activision Or EA or ubisoft or 2k

Never forget it's so obvious that My First Stuff pack was carved DLC because it contained THE OTHER HALF OF THE FURNITURE FOR THE CATS AND DOGS KIDS ROOM SET. Also please continue to remind me that since Seasons is coming and I know better than to buy it buuuut...
abdalminator (1 month ago)
i didnt know there was ending dlc, was it even free?
DpoProductions (1 month ago)
I think the preorder thing kind of doesnt apply now, whenever I preorder stuff now, its stuff I know I want 100% and want to support the company by not buying used. Things like the latest God of War. With amazon they only take the money when they ship so ur not losing anything, and its nice not worrying about buying it to get release day shipping and they also sometimes run out of stock on new releases. The point is, the preorder bonus for GoW was really bad, it was 3 shield skins to use in game. You barely ever even notice your shield skin in game, mostly because its a shield that collapses on itself when not used and when youre using it, if youre like me, you really dont care if its a different color.
Carter Kinoy (1 month ago)
And this is why I will never ever buy an EA published game.

Anyone know where that Asura's Wrath footage at the beginning is from? I've never seen that before. Looks sweet.
xX1NORM1Xx (1 month ago)
one of the most bittersweet things in the 360/ps3 era was buying DLC and it only being 10mb, Great you could play it immediately but you also paid for something you already had...

There is a few mobile games that asks you for money for another save-slot, thought this is the first time I have heard of it for a pc or console game.

Please someone make a short video about Bane singing that stupid song !
RosieSquall (1 month ago)
I've said it before, I say it again: we as consumers are at fault as well. If we voted with our wallets and stopped endorsing bullshit, the industry would have to change. But let's keep buying the special editions, the collectors editions, the season packs, the dlcs, etc, etc.
Amante (1 month ago)
As a MMO player, I don't miss retailer exclusive preorder shit
Mehdi Ressalat (1 month ago)
i think you forgot to mention bioshock 3 to part dlc burial at sea. which the true ending of game is in it.
Vanessa Li (2 months ago)
I thought I was hearing things at the intro since I was already listening to Scatman prior
kira64 (2 months ago)
The Asura's Wrath DLC was the most insulting thing Capcom had ever shat out. I loved that game, and they do that to me? Eat a cock. That was probably when they started going down the shit caked drain.

And here iam Having fun with Sims4 - and didnt they not Included the Stylestuff because it caused Bugs?
Zantetsu13 (2 months ago)
I hate to have to mention this, but dark souls remastered right now looks like it's going to be joining this list.
This why we need online piracy.
Leslie Renfro (2 months ago)
I thought of a dlc worse than buying a save slot for $9.99, and it does not exist but the mere thought of it makes me shudder. This would be something Warner Bros Interactive would do. Basically, they sell DLC where all it really does is add micro-transaction only items in a pack that is actually sold to fix the broken game. How wanker would that be? Let me answer for you, a lot.
THIEF (2 months ago)
Thank god for Jim Sterling.
thegreatfeed (2 months ago)
Its like we all forget that cheat codes were not free. You had to buy nintendo power or call one of their game help hotlines. Yeah most of us got our codes from friends but someone up the line bougth it.
Nolsterbuckr (2 months ago)
Sorry but you forgot Bioshock Infinite
snack881 (2 months ago)
Fallout 3 required you to buy DLC just so you could keep playing your save after the shitty ending...?
James Chau (2 months ago)
What about DLC for Early Access game? like ARK Survival Evolved?
Joshua Fogg (2 months ago)
Especially egregious with the MG:Survive was that an achievement was literally tied to the alternate ending. Good luck if you didn't aim for that ending in first place, huh?

There was nothing quite like the disappointment of finding out Thundercracker and Skywarp were DLC only that fucking killed me
Ocrilat (2 months ago)
I know it's an old one, but a DLC hatchet job that flew under the radar was Paradox Interactive's Hearts of Iron 3 DLC Semper Fi, which was a fatal bug-fixing patch you had to pay for as an 'expansion' in order to play the basic game.
Menacingly (2 months ago)
Moral of the story is; Fuck Konami
Kyle Buehne (2 months ago)
Day One DLC really isn't that bad if you include games that had free updates in the first few days.
Good Guys Gaming (2 months ago)
Is it "DLC" if it is on the disc? "Downloadable Content"
Barry Scott (2 months ago)
Unisoft bought Tetris and now I can't play Tetris on my phone because they DMCA all the ones that use the Tetris theme and the only ones they have are brink full of microtransactions and shitty payment peddling gameplay that goes against the whole concept of the original.

asura's wrath , i have the displeasure of owning that thing, to this day i never finished it myself,

How about Assassins Creed Origins? Gives you the first mission of the DLCs for free. Then you have to pay to continue a story you became invested in?
Mike Fluff (2 months ago)
I feel Dynasty Warriors 9 needs to be here now
Delta Zerda (2 months ago)
Yo, girl, I heard you like DLC, so we put DLC inside of your DLC. -EA and MAXIS, making The Sims 4
Dan Robertson (2 months ago)
"DLC is horrible when we are made to pay for it!" * Asks people to pay via Patreon for additional content such as pod casts etc.* Oh, so you're a business too? Like the publishers? Strange.
tatios dudukjian (2 months ago)
I agree with everything you said except for battlefield 4
lazycrypt (2 months ago)
Unfortunately Civilization is also guilty of carving mechanics out of a game and then selling it as a DLC in the sequel.
MannoloGamer (2 months ago)
I totally agree and add one more bullshit: Platform exclusive content e.g: Arkham Knight Scarecrow stuff etc.
Æsir (2 months ago)
Kingdoms of Amalur.. such an underrated game.

Decembirth (2 months ago)
It works in Japan. Not sure why they keep trying this with Western countries.
Braize6 (2 months ago)
Season pass is a huge money making sham of a DLC tactic. They charge you for content that isn't even released yet. And even worse, people pay for it. Even more worse, every single season pass is downvoted to hell on Steam or other review sites. Annnnd even more worserer, people STILL buy the shit. If people weren't stupid, DLCs would never have been a thing in the first place. But hey, people waste money on it. Same for phone games and all the crap people throw money at there.
Michael Eade (2 months ago)
No mention of Train simulator? £20 for the base game and nearly £5000 for all the DLC
Nick Armor (2 months ago)
This all reminds me of a recenty meme on r/piracy; CPY edition: all DLC included for $0! And no, I don't feel guilty about pirating games when game companies are selling special editions without the game, or withholding content so you can pay for it later.
The Bibleman (2 months ago)
I love Dragon's Dogma, but that was some stinky bullshit.
Chewi (2 months ago)
In all fairness to Asura's Wrath (and I can't believe I'm defending Capcom), the game's original ending was the intended ending that would lead into a sequel... but the game didn't sell well so they just finished off the final part rather than saving it for a sequel. Having to buy it sucks but it wasn't cut out intentionally.
Hypnotic Molecules (2 months ago)
Pornhub is being touted as a real possible alternative to youtube in other news. Also Masahiro Ito is willing to make a new Silent Hill. Konami can't be that bad.
Koncz Dávid (2 months ago)
What you said about Prince of Persia's DLC is not quite true. The game (just like The Sands of Time trilogy) takes a full circle by the end, so in a way it ends where the story started basically (it has a very cathartic and strong ending by the way). The Epilogue DLC is not a real ending, it's rather something like The 400 Days DLC for The Walking Dead Season 1 which was supposed to act as a bridge between S1 and S2. Although you can say that the Epilogue DLC is critically important because it teased a possibility that the evil can be defeated without sacrificing Elika... unfortunately they never made a second game. I think you can think about the Epilogue DLC as an 'after credits' scene.
