Same amount of ram (128kb) , same Hitachi 3 inch drive (possibly same FDC NEC 765), same CPU but clocked a little bit slower to speccy @3.5469 MHz, different operating systems (3DOS instead of AMSDOS). An amazing machine with super-smooth game play :D Even if i am a 6128 fanboy i love this machine :D Thank you for the video Mr Pixel :)

No! Thank You George, for that awesome comment! :) Have a great week! Cheers!

I brought street fighter 2 in the big box for my 128k +2 it was so bad, made even worse by my friend having an A500 with it on.
It's a Pixel THING (2 months ago)
Yeah, I can understand that ;) Cheers, David! Thanks for watching and for leaving your comment!

Great memories...I have a Didaktik M (Slovakian speccy clone) specially upgraded to play 128K games an I have it for today, functional. You pick absolutely great games for 128. Is it a MMcM (Sergey Kosov) music score from 7:00 ?
TheTraumaZero (2 months ago)
Thank you for answer, it´s a great tune. As i wrote before, I woke up my Didaktik 128 with AY 8912 (Melodik) after 25 years of hibernation, it works fine. Casette player (ELTA from Deutsche Demokratische Republik) had some reading problems, but fine tune with screw driver done the work. Screenshot bellow. http://umsle.peklo.biz/img/1534667439.jpg
It's a Pixel THING (2 months ago)
Yep! Indeed! A tune by MMcM named "Ashes of Dreams" (it's in the end of this video! eh eh eh!) ;) Cheers! Thanks for watching and for your comment!

The +3 was my first Spectrum. I wanted an Amiga but my family couldn’t afford one. I still have that machine and love it to bits.

An amazing system! I always wanted to have one, back then! :) Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your memories! Have a great week!

Why? :)
Lucio Quintal (9 months ago)
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)

It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)

Superb video Pedro. It reminds me that some games were actually better to play on the Speccy than the C64. I had a 64 at the time, so I was blindfolded (blinkered) in my views of spectrum games, but now I see I was wrong. The loading times you point out were a major issue back then, but now its very easy thanks to the community! I had a friend with a +3 back in the day, and to load from tape he used bare wires connected to his stereo cassette deck, and it used to take as long as C64 games - too long! He had the lightgun and a few games, and today its hard to get the real experience without a CRT. I also find it refreshing to not have a list of names at the end of the video to thank. I know you have some superb patreons listed in the description, but I get bored watching endless scrolling names, even when I'm one of the people listed, so please dont start to do that, as it becomes about who can get the most shout outs on the most channels.
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts and opinion, Daniel! Appreciate it! :) Here in Portugal the c64 wasn't as popular as the speccy. I had only one friend that owned one and I recall playing so many awesome c64 games way better than the spectrum versions :) Patrons are awesome and I believe that they're giving us their money so that we can continue to do what we do and not to place their names in every single video. Even so, and from time to time (special occasions, channel anniversary, etc), I must shout their names out ;) Cheers! Have a great weekend!

Obrigado pelas palavras! :)

I don’t remember the Spectrum at all.. Maybe it was just big in Europe.. Everything here I recall was Commodore, IBM & Apple predominantly.. Still interesting to learn..
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Yeah, the Spectrum was huge here in Europe. It was really cheap and affordable compared with its main rivals, the C64, Amstrad CPC and even the MSX. Thank you so much for watching and for leaving your comment, Michael! Appreciate it! Cheers!
Windy Seed (9 months ago)
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Windy Seed (9 months ago)
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Só a partir do ano seguinte (RoboCop, Where Time Stood Still) e, principalmente, 1989 começaram a surgir jogos (Batman The Movie e Chase H.Q.) cujas versões 128K já ocupavam espaço considerável. Obrigado por assistires e por deixares o teu comentário! Abraço!

What a brilliant overview of this lovely machine. I was a 48k Plus man myself, but I’m obviously interested in all forms of our amazing Spectrum. Thanks, as always, for your time.

It's a Pixel THING Barbarian was a game I played for hours on the spectrum. The excitement of waiting for the cassette tape to load with all the colourful lines.... Waiting for a PS4 game to upload doesn't quite have that same excitement!!
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Yeah! Those were the years! :) Started with the 48K and soon evolved onto the +2A! Amazing years! No doubt ;) Cheers, shahid! Have a great week!

Nice review for a classic ZX computer. Includding a floppy drive nice for improve loadings but nothing else cos many capabilities are comun in +2,+2a and others 128k models.... cheers!
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Indeed! :) The loading times were what really differentiated the +3 from the other 128K machines :) Back then I was so jealous of those incredible loading times! Thanks for watching and for leaving your amazing feedback, Juanje! Have a great week!!

Boas Pedro...
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)

Great video, I never owned a +3, my parents bought me a +2 instead. , I learned to code @ school when I was 6. And the speccy became my best pal back then. Wonderful memories.
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Yeah, my parents also bought me a +2A instead of a +3 (a lot more expensive back then)... The Speccy was also a huge help when I was learning to program at school ;) Thanks for whatching, Ricardo! Cheers!

It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Como assim? Emular no PC? É simples! Há bastantes emuladores por essa internet fora ;)
Have you fixed the sound on the +3? It is ten resistance that can be replaced and the ay sound will be much better
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Thank you so much for that suggestion, Miika! Appreciate it ;)
Miika Suominen (9 months ago)
I suggest using this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-new-Stereo-kit-for-any-ZX-Spectrum-128K-model/401138116240 You need to cut 2 traces and know how to solder, but that deals with the sound problem AND you also get nice stereo sound too! Love it!
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Not yet. Have to look for that solution one of these days ;) Thank you so much for watching and for leaving your feedback, Martin! Have a great week!! Cheers!
Never owned a ZX Spectrum but it looks like an interesting device. Thanks for the great showcasing!

Awesome stuff ,) I have the +2 A and I really need a DIV like yours. Just one question, are thoose disk games exclusives for the +3, or can we run them on the +2 A with the DIV?
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
I absolutely love it! ;)
Retro Raider (9 months ago)
It's a Pixel THING I Will look for one. I really enjoy the Specky. Not from my time but, so many great games to play. My favorite 8 bit computer.
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
You can use a DivIDE on a Speccy +2A and run all 128K games with no issues at all ;) It doesn't matter if they were originally out on disk or on cassette tapes ;) Thanks for watching, Johnny! Appreciate it!
David Robinson (9 months ago)
I had a +2A only problem with the 2A is had compatibility issues with some older games that would not load in 48K mode no matter what.
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
I don't recall having problems loading older games on my +2A. Jetpac, Deathchase, Chequered Flag among my older favorites ;) Thanks for watching and for your much appreciated comment, David! Have a great week!

Those Amsoft discs are nostalgic as fuck. I owned a 6128 and had a few.
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Indeed! A friend had a Plus 3 back in the day, and I recall handling those Amsoft disks when gaming on his machine :) Awesome memories! Thanks!
AxBattler (9 months ago)
could you make a video where you show some games loading from start to finish with no editing? would be interesting to see what +3 owners experienced also when more than one game is on a disk, to show how +3 owners choose which game to load would be interesting
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
Thanks for all those suggestions ;)
AxBattler (9 months ago)
thanks , and it would be nice to hear what the disk sounds like when its loading, the amiga had a memorable loading noise. It would be funny to do a video comparing c64,amiga,ST,+3 disk loading noises! and the sound of the disk going into the drive D:
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
That's a cool idea ;) Will do on a future video ;) Thanks!

Excellent overview. The added musical abilities of this machine really made quite a few of the 128k titles very good. Superior to their 48K counterparts. My functioning ZX Spectrum also is a ZX Spectrum +3, the sound is very low on it so I reckon I need to check it and perhaps replace some of the caps. Always loved the bright colours on the ZX Spectrum, much more vibrant than the C64's palette. Always was playing on both machines, we had a C64 back home but played a ton on a friend's Speccy. The high-res aspect of most of the Speccy graphics - despite the colour clash - was very appealing. Quite partial to this model and the Amstrad CPC 6128
It's a Pixel THING (9 months ago)
The +3 always had issues with sound. There is a solution for that :) Had the 48k and +2A back in the day ;) Thanks for watching, Mark! Cheers! Have a great week!
